I'm anticipating the new year. Guess what I'm going to be doing/am doing?

The Wii Fit.

My brother-in-law lost close to 40 pounds in four months using it! So now I'm borrowing it from him.

Anyone else have some weight loss/get fit goals?

I wish I had a Wii to get fit with :( I guess I will probably continue to lose weight though, considering my diet has changed a lot since I moved back in with my parents... i.e. I'm not drinking every night, not eating lots of junk food.

The opposite happened to me when I lived with my folks. I actually gained weight.

My weight loss plan includes being a miser with my budget so I don't buy junk food and working hard when I'm on the job so the manual labor loses some pounds. Then I'll be exercising muscle groups that don't necessarily get a work out on the job (abs, etc).

And on weekends and stuff I'll be free-running. If the budget includes I might finally get those martial arts lessons I've been wanting for a while.

Yeah I've got plans to get fit, but I haven't figured out the details yet.... somehow I don't seem to have time for anything these days, but who knows - if my school schedule changes in the new year I might be home earlier and have time to go walking in the evenings... or I'll finally go take the extra eurythmy lessons.... food wise I should be doing okay, I already lost some because the food at school is so horrible and we don't have time to go get anything else that I'm only eating one proper meal a day...

Good for you! I was doing that (uh for two weeks in September) but I'm not in good enough shape, if that makes sense. I need to get fitter just so I can do it! But its a great program. Just REALLY hard core.

1. Buy house

2. Buy weights

3. Work out constantly on my own weights on my own time.

I had quite the year in 2008. Stopped smoking in March, stopped drinking sugared (HFCS) soda in April, got a Wii fit in April, and starting using the elliptical at work as real exercise, cause the Wii fit really isn't it just encourages it.

Now I'm a non-smoker and 35 lbs lighter. :D

That's what we hear. Our doctor even said to be very, very careful since it's a lot to take on so soon post-op. But that it works. I'm gearing up for it slowly, trying to work out little motivational mantras in expectation for those days where I just want to lay down and die and never work out again. :lol

Definitely do the Lean program - it starts you off a little easier.

Wyl Staedtler
Jan 1st, 2009, 10:51:34 PM
We are day three into the Lean program - and I want to die. Holy crap, I've never been this sore for such a consistent amount of time.

I'm having a bit of trouble since a lot of these past few days has consisted of core/ab work - I can't do too many sets without getting a really sharp, non-muscular pain in my lower abdomen. It feels sort of like after a C-section, when you cough or laugh and have to apply pressure to the area? So that's my cue to back off and sit it out for a few sets.

Also: I've never eaten so much in my life. If you follow the meal plan, you're constantly eating, and it's biiiig portions. Hard to get used to.

Despite being exhausted though, I feel really good! Yoga X tomorrow, which'll be a nice change of pace from all the resistance training.

87 days to go!

So the running begins. I'm doing a program called Couch to 5k. In 9 weeks I should be able to run a 5k without killing myself.

I got fairly pressed for time in the fall semester and the way I've scheduled my classes and work in the spring semester, shouldn't discourage me from the gym as much. That and lacrosse starts up in febuary, so I guess I better start running again.

Wyl Staedtler
Jan 2nd, 2009, 11:07:57 PM
Completed Yoga X today - curse you Holly, and your rightness! :shakefist

Good golly it was hard! The first half, at least. I hated the first half - once we moved into balance poses and stretching, it got fun. Everything before that was torture and I was sweating like crazy. I did manage to rock the hell out of crane pose, which ticked James off because he kept falling on his head when he tried to do it and he's like a bazillion times stronger than me. :D

86 days to go!

Lilaena De'Ville
Jan 3rd, 2009, 03:22:25 AM
:hug way to go! Crane pose - man, I just sat and watched them do that one. :p

I completed my first 30 minute Wii fit workout today, and its fun and I'm tricking myself into thinking I'm playing games instead of doing something I won't enjoy.

I did not eat well today, except that I did eat scrambled eggs for breakfast, which was nice and healthy. I also ate cookies and brownies. BAD ME. :cry Too many holiday snacks lying around.

My goal is also to be in bed by 10 pm and up by 6 am every weekday. I'm totally unbalanced with my current sleep schedule, with the baby getting up early and me staying up way too late I'm lacking in energy during the day and crashing out and napping. And then staying up too late.

I didn't get to sleep until after 4 am today because of an upset stomach, so I didn't manage to start my new schedule, and didn't (obviously) get to bed at 10 tonight, so I hope to start this on Sunday night. Maybe tomorrow night.

Wyl Staedtler
Jan 3rd, 2009, 02:34:15 PM
We're trying to be in bed by ten too, Holly - so far unsuccessful on that front. ^_^;

We threw out (well, gave away) all our junk food when we started P90X, but I caved last night and managed to convince James to split a Twix with me. It was divine.

Did legs and back today. I think it's my least favourite workout so far. I hate doing lower body work and there were so many squats ugh ugh ugh. Can't do very many unassisted pull-ups, and the ab killer kicked my butt, but made it through another day!

85 more to go!

Aaaaaaah Kempo is so fun but wow do you get sweaty! I've never dripped so much perspiration in my life! We had to put towels on the floor it was so bad. ^_^;

End of week one - tomorrow is just a stretching day. I already feel a difference in my posture and core strength.

84 and counting!

Wyl Staedtler
Jan 6th, 2009, 08:41:59 PM
Rested yesterday - sort of; Jay and I went on a hike down to Queens Bath and it was deserted because the tide was so rough. We swam for a few hours and then hiked home and waveboarded for a bit on the sidewalk before collapsing.

Did Core Synergistics again today - starting the cycle all over. I thought that after a day of relative rest my stomach would be up to it but holy crap, did it ever hurt!

As we move into week two, I'm just going to focus on giving my best. This is especially hard because this week is that time of the month and I alternate between wanting to punch Tony Horton in the face and getting all maternal and 'oh Tony, you big geek :lol'.

82 days left!

SO far I did rather well... been eating healthy food, in healthy measures....

No exercise tho, unless you count shovelling snow. It's too cold to go outside and walk.

And today, while running around town for three hours (does that even count towards exercise?) I caved and bought a chocolate bar in the bio shop... and ate it all up .... baaaad me.

Getting fit for me isn't about losing weight :x Sorry. I know. Evil. My girlfriend thinks my inability to put on poundage annoying, too.

But, last year I injured myself pretty badly. Enough so that I couldn't run or climb (very sad for me). I apparently have a muscle from my hip to thigh that is evil, wicked, and damned.

So, starting Monday I have a month of physical therapy aimed at strengthening other muscles, stretching and relieving tension from the evil muscle, etc.

That's the first order of business.

Second is that I'm going to start dancing. My girlfriend just happens to be a dance instructor; so, it's a multipurpose goal ;) That should help with the flexibility and legs.

Add to that running (which I will start up as soon as I'm able to run without pain), skiing (which I've been doing a few times a week for hours and hours and hours lately), ice climbing (again, reliant on my hip), rock climbing, and a slew of other activities and that's my plan of attack.

Also, less pizza, sustained amounts of sushi (can't remove that from my diet!), and more cooking (since I tend to cook healthy).

I don't really have any weight goals, because that's not important. I just want to have all of my energy and flexibility back (which I lost with this silly injury).

I'm also thinking about starting up Pilates. My sister has been taking classes for awhile now, I did some with her and man... awesome feeling! I felt great afterwards and my core was hummingly happy.

So, there you go. My "get fit" plan.

Back at it! Gonna count yesterday as a rest day and not take one at the end of the workout cycle. Did cardio today, and ran after Rhys at the park. Not sure which one was more exhausting. :lol

Really noticing a difference, in my abs especially. It's wicked awesome.

The first week of attempted fitness in 2009 for me went pretty well. Managed to run and bike all five days. With two lifting sessions, the one today being extrodinarially well for me. Tomorrow is going to suck though, as every muscle in my body will hurt most likely.

Lilaena De'Ville
Jan 9th, 2009, 12:50:12 PM
Almost half a pound lighter still! So, for my first week I lost.... 2.2 pounds!

And although I didn't stick to my bedtime last night I did get up at 6 am, which is what I wanted. Hooray!

I also have to confess I've had two Cokes in the last two days, and Ty brought home donuts yesterday and I had two. So. I think I'm still doing pretty good, weight wise.

Nowhere to go but down! Muscles are slightly sore, which is good. yay!

Wyl Staedtler
Jan 10th, 2009, 03:54:35 PM
I have gained weight, hurrah! Mostly muscle, I believe.

Also, and I am having a hard time believing this, I've lost that extra padding that I've had ever since my c-section. I tried everything to get rid of it after I had Rhys and nothing worked - now, not even a full two weeks into this program, it's nearly gone. Madness, I say, madness!

Ooh! And if you need some energy, you need to order some Greens 8000. I cannot praise this supplement enough. It's 100% natural, no sugar added, and has the antioxidant power equivalent to more than twenty servings of fruits and veggies in every serving. It gives you so much energy all day long and we've also noticed a huge difference in our skin and hair. It's incredible.

Still plugging away at P90X. I've progressed to heavier weights, which is cool, although I'm really really really worried that I'm going to bulk up and have man arms and that it's mainly targeting my upper body when it's my ass and goddamn hips that I want to firm up and trim down.

Also I've been having some nutritional problems. I'm eating like a mofo (as the plan suggests) and it's all very high-protein but I still feel like I'm not getting enough protein. I'm full at the end of the day, but my body is craving meat. At first I thought it was perhaps the iron, because I get tons of protein, so I started adding beet root powder to my shakes in the morning but it hasn't made much of a difference. I'll be meeting with a fitness nutritionist later on in the week to try and figure it out.

ETA: I'm sure that my recent relapse into the 8-cups-of-coffee/day minimum and '5-hour Energy' addiction isn't helping. >_<

How are y'all?

Plodding along - this week has been really hard motivation wise. I've added daily runs to my P90X program, because I'm really worried about getting manly muscles.

Also, my diet has been tweaked a bit. I'm no longer eating dairy - I've never been able to have milk, but cheese is my downfall and I've been taking pills so that I can digest it.

So: no meat, dairy, sugar or refined carbs. Eggs are probably going to be the next to go, after reading some reports about how much crap is in even the organic kind. :(

Oh dear. I've become one of those people now, haven't I? >_<

Uh, you need to get protein somehow. And where did you read that eggs are terrible?

Wyl Staedtler
Feb 18th, 2009, 09:19:26 PM
I get protein from veggies :) As for eggs, unless they're organically farmed (and even those can be questionable) you ingest all the same hormones, pesticides, chemicals and steroids that you would if you ate the chicken directly. Plus the more I think about what they are the more it grosses me out. >_<

That's not to say that eggs are bad or that it's wrong to eat them. I'm just not sure that I can consume them personally anymore, without violating my conscience.

Plodding along - this week has been really hard motivation wise. I've added daily runs to my P90X program, because I'm really worried about getting manly muscles.>_<

You can not get manly muscles without vast quantities of protein and getting a strapadicktome. You cant put on weight full stop unless you consume more than you burn. That is it. That has always been the hard and fast rule in the last thread, that is the hard and fast rule right now.

So.

1) Fads are out

2) Dont get complex. It's actually damn simple

3) It's not hard unless your a maniac and try to break yourself.

4) Losing weight is always a game of eating 500 calories less than your daily burn.

5) Exercise one hour a day. It does not have to be hard.

6) Dont push yourself when injured (Now he tells me, said the man with the stress fractured legs)

7) The main point of the last thread was that is was a journal. That is also important. And that journal gets filled in every day. Why? Tracking.

8) Real goals. Forget about weight because that's frustrating and not the true indicator to fitness (BMI is a piece of shit, forget about it) but concentrate on actual real goals. There's that mountain? Get up it. 2 hour sex session? Do it. Run around the block without passing out? That works too.

For girls, muscle gives curves and definition. Muscle is NOT a bad thing. Actually it's rather the sexay. Thin sucks.

9) Someone holds you accountable.

10) Fitness buddy. Why? Doing it alone sucks.

11) Planning. Fitness isnt randon

12) Lifestyle. It's not a whim either. It's a lifestyle.

Right then. Get y0 fitness buddy, and get at it. I'm going to kick y0 asses in two weeks when I can actually do somethign again.

(Stress fractures? Yeah, a bike thing didnt end well)Thank you!!! well said, specially number 2. If people will follow your 12 rules they will have it licked.

I have a buddy but he's ridiculously ripped and I'm... not. So when we're on move 200 of the ab ripper and he's barely broken a sweat and I'm yelling because ow holy hell, it's not very motivating.

Speaking of motivating I should be working out right now but... I can't bring myself to do it. It's... so... hot...

I want to be a boy. :(

Okay not really, but I wouldn't mind looking and feeling like I did at eighteen.

I know I won't ever be able to maintain a stick figure - right now I'm unhealthy scrawny and that's no good - but because I have curves, any extra weight I put on goes to all the wrong areas. Currently my goal is to get up to 120, but be toned.

You really do need a serious a-slapping over your body image and how your going about this.

Women will always have a higher fat content. It's the way you are.

If you want to put it on in the right places, you follow the simple rule. Eat enough to allow the body to keep mass, then direct the body to put that mass where you work it. When your metabolism is in muscle build mode, then it'll go in the right places. Being in muscle build mode isn't that hard to achieve either.

And you need to seriously re-assess what you are doing and how hard you are pushing. You are not getting fit, you are doing yourself damage.

You should take the week off and do no more than walk. Think about your program. Re-assess based on the rules that work. THEN reintroduce yourself gradually back in. If things go a bit screwy to begin with, then so be it.

Actually I forgot rule 13). HAVING FUN. Fitness is not all about pain and awful revival drinks. Fitness is about enjoying life and having a ball doing it.

Exactly. You should just enjoy the view and relax ;)

I've done nothing but eat junk for the past month, and everyone is telling me I look like I've lost weight. This might have to do with being sick a lot, or they need their eyes checked.

I do walk a lot more, and I actually eat meals instead of snacking all day so maybe that's it. >_<

Nah, the program is intense, but it's not deadly. It's very fun and while I wouldn't necessarily go at this pace long-term, it's a good boost. Once we're done the initial 90 days, I'll drop down to resisitance training three or four times a week, some yoga/pilates, and running and surfing.

Although cycling is beginning to look very enticing...

For 2009, my flatmate Anna and I want to get fitter. Mostly this is because we're part of the Derby Ravens Cheerleading Team ...and we want to look good in our uniforms - which, by the way, after one hundred pounds and five months of waiting FINALLY ARRIVED! Whoohoo!

I used to be pretty good with the exercise before I moved to Derby for University study: I did Kung Fu and horse riding, and walked everywhere I could. Now I'm at Uni, I walk a lot (my campus is on top of a hill ...I suppose so everybody can see it) and I do cheerleading, but it doesn't feel like enough. Plus, with my mum and dad not regulating what I eat so much, I'm happily chowing down on pizza, cookies and potato chips. Sometimes I try to justify the pizza to myself ('cause I always order a vegetable one) in that it's got bread, vegetables and cheese on it, so it covers lots of food groups. In a flat full of girls, it's surprising how easy that can be applied to nearly any meal. Heehee! :D

So right now I'm trying to eat better ...Lil, I sympathise with the self-control thing. A guy from the flat downstairs left brownie bites in our kitchen ...and I couldn't help but eat most of them. They're just really tasty! >_< But I'm trying hard; buying from the produce market that comes to my Uni once a week and snacking on caramel rice cakes.

I'm trying to do a little bit of exercise every morning and evening: tummy crunches, twists, press-ups and split stretches. Because one day, I'm going to be as flexible as the character I'm posting as!

To everybody here: You're really inspiring and it's great to read how well everybody's doing. Keep up the good work!

I ran for 30 minutes straight today. I'll do it twice more this week and then I'll be running 3 miles 3 times a week. I like running, especially running fast. When I combine with with parkour, it makes for a really good time.

Basically I'm training back up to my old standard. Then I'll do more. I used to be really fit. Not cut or super muscular, but definitely athletic. I had a flat tummy too.

My job is helping me lose weight, but I mostly walk while carrying weight, but I want to be more than just a pack mule. ^_^;

Thank you! ^^

Everybody who added me on the Facetube already knows this - but my news for Fit Club today is: I got my cheerleading outfit! *superspecialawesome squeal* My flatmate and I did lots of posing and prancing and photographing last night, and I stayed up until 2AM messing around on YouBook.

Yesterday I walked to Uni and back - resisting the temptation to get the bus. That hill is pretty mean. I did press-up practice this morning ...gee, I have no upper body strength. When I go home next (in a couple of weeks for my daddy's birthday!), I'm going to bring back my dumbells so my arms get stronger. I really ought to be getting on with the rest of my workout.

Last night at cheer practice we rehearsed our stunt routine over and over and over again - my knuckles got really sore as I'm one of the bases for the front post elevator stunt, which means that my hand gets squished between the flyer's foot and the floor. My knuckles are still a bit red this morning, but they don't hurt ^^ What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!

And for the game this weekend: "Action, action - we want action! A-C-T-I-O-N! Action, boys, action!" Whoohoo!

Alrighty, Liz said I should be posting these. Anyway here you go:

"Workout of the Day" Challenge

5 sets of:

400 Meter Run
30 Box Jumps (24 inch/60 centimeter box)
30 Wall-Ball Shots (20 lb/10 Kg Medicine Ball)

Do these in as short a time as possible. Each exercise is fairly straight forward.

Wall-Ball Shots: Start from a squat position with the medicine ball in both hands (over hand, not granny-style ya ninny's). Explode upward and throw the ball as high as possible against a wall. Catch the ball on the way down (over hand again) and go back to a squat position. Motions should be fluid and continous. Rinse and repeat 30 times.

If you can't pull this off, simply lower the weight on the medicine ball, but you should be exhausting yourself. These are supposed to be short, but intense workouts that can be done on its own or in addition to your normal work out.

Tune in tomorrow for the next workout.

Guh. Did my workout for today.

I'm trying this seven day cleanse thing (today is the first day) that's meant to clean out your insides; it's ridiculously uncomfortable. It feels like Russell Crowe and Sven-Ole Thorsen are going at it inside my abdomen and randomly tossing the flu virus around.

But it also appears to be working so yay, I guess. :(

Ugh, that cleansing stuff is just evil. Have fun on about day 3-4 ;)

I have never done this as I don't really find the use for it and some of the claims made are very, very exagerated. Note, if you're using that 7-day cleanse from that crazy internet infomercial thingy, its a sham.

Run a natural cleanse if you choose to do anything along those lines. Should save a few days and a lot of bucks.

Ha ha ha, I am a hippie, I wouldn't buy cleanse pills. It's a tea that you make from all these different herbs and drink twice daily (morning and night). I've done a similar one to it, but not quite as intense. They're really good for flushing out toxins and waste - by day three you usually notice a jump in your energy levels and sharper focus. My skin always looks fantastic too. :D

Ugh. That was horrible. By far the worst running experience of my life. I hated every single bloody second of this stupid run; it was hot and muggy and ridiculously hard and I wanted to throw up or pass out or die or all three. I cried. Waaaaay past my normal (acceptable) level of masochism.

It was pretty and I made it to the top. Running down was interesting, and I almost biffed it several times because it started to rain and the trail was slick as hell.

When I got to the bottom I felt so goddamn proud. Despite loathing the experience, I kind of want to do it again, just because the end rush was unbelievable.

Somehow knowing how hard it was and remembering the surprise steep inclines made it worse the second time. I have never been so happy to see a 'trail end' marker before in my life. Also I biffed it on the way down and took an awesome dirt nap. Owww. :(

However! I am home and on the couch with Pain-A-Trate (holy mother, this is the best stuff ever, everyone get some; IcyHot and Bengay can suck it) and James has made me an Irish coffee. I've got two ambitions: a shirt I really like that I can't wear at the minute, and a four-mile bike ride into town that took me fourty minutes and knackered the bajesus out of me last time. Went for a run with Rhys in a stroller; I haven't done that in ages, not since he weighed a lot less. Two miles in the pre-rain humidity did me in.

Afterwards I tried lap swimming for the first time. It was ridiculously hard. I'm not used to having to form a rhythm and it's a completely different experience from just kicking it in the ocean. Managed fifty lengths which is, what (help me out, swimmers), 25 laps?

Meant to do some weights today as well but I'm too tired. :(

Mostly on pavement (damn cities)

With no water on me.

The only plus was that I was running along the Mississippi River and got to run some nice trails along the way. Though I did end up getting stuck on Nicollet Island because only one of the 2 bridges were open. Ended up running around the whole damn Island.

Well, I just wanted to come in and brag just a bit. I know I have said this before somewhere here, but I have no idea how long ago , so I will repeat. I know I have benched 500 lbs before and I have ran a sub 5 minute mile but never in the same day or you know, within an acceptable time frame. About ten years ago I read an article that said it was impossible to do (and I only assume they meant drug free?? ) anyway, the impossible has happened..... 511 lbs and 4:52 seconds, in the same day. I had to drop a good bit of size to be able to achieve this..I'm down to 215 body weight, but it was worth it. Now that I have achieved this goal, I really have no desire to continue to workout..I mean I know none of that is world record stuff , but..Man, you have no idea how long I have on again and off again have attempted to do this and the fact that i'm and Avg man working ridiculous hours and drug free...I'm pretty proud... I'll try to get some pic's and vid up. I actually haven't watched or looked at them myself(have to make sure I don't look too stupid as i was straining etc.. ;) ok, that was it just had to share with someone..And what's funny, I mean I'm proud that I did it and all..But I'm actually a little underwhelmed. I mean for years I thought, man when I do this I'm going to run out in the street and tell everyone, but I'm kind of Meh..is that bad??

Congrats, Buff!

And you can't stop working out completely, you'd have to rename yourself! :p
