View Full Version : SWFans Secret Santa

Would anyone be interested in doing a Secret Santa here on Fans? If, somehow, you don't know what Secret Santa is: basically everyone's name goes into a hat, and then at random we pick out names, assigning everyone with a secret gift partner. Simple.
We could have a budget of something like $20 or lower. Then come Christmas, we can have the joy of unwrapping a parcel from an unknown someone, somewhere.
What do you think? :)

Wicked idea, beb. Slightly more interesting than a Christmas card exchange, which is equally as cool, I might add.
I say go for it!

Alright, anyone who wants to play, PM me your details...then on December 7th I'll give everyone a buddy. Gives you a couple of weeks to find something, and get it posted out. How does that sound?

I'd be up for the christmas card thing. But I'm too broke for gift parcels. and, there is the problem that if a gift card is bought, the ultimate recipient may not have the store around them of said gift card to spend it at.

Dec 4th, 2008, 01:25:53 AM
Well, don't buy a gift card...?

The issue of me being broke is no longer an issue thanks to gaining employment (suprisingly enough as a security officer considering what the economy is doing to security work in the local area), so I'm up for participating in this thing.

But the names have been pulled from the hat? :huh Up to Jenny of course, she's running it. I just assumed that since we've already 'pulled' the names... O_o

LD is right. I already paired everyone up. The 8 people who PM'd me have someone to give a gift to, and receive a gift from. :/
If more people are up for it, that's cool, but the original people have been sorted already... I can't really change who they got or ask them to send two gifts.

Ok. Can I at least have addresses to send christmas cards to then?
Ooh, I just belatedly realized that I should be decorating the house right now. Perhaps I'll put up the christmas lights tomorrow or the day after.

Dec 10th, 2008, 02:09:53 PM
Yeah me too... now I just gotta get around to sending it...
Although - it's not going to be all that much of a secret seeing that the stamps on the package will give away where it comes from (unless there's someone else from Germany who's taking part in this).

And hopefully post here to let us know you got everything ok! Especially since a lot of us are doing International mail fun!
Nya Halcyon
Dec 16th, 2008, 02:32:04 PM
Yeah.... the international mail thing is a bummer.... postage was almost as much as the gift itself! They really need to start up a cheap global mail service.
Ilias Nytrau
Dec 16th, 2008, 04:24:04 PM
I should shower and get dressed and actually leave my house despite the cold and snow to go gifting. :lol

ack lines at the post office were too long and my husband gave up. So, half is mailed, half is not. :uhoh

The very first (I think?) SWFans Book! It's a collection of RPs from our World of Darkness storyline, specifically the Gabriel and Sansa related stuff.
Nya Halcyon
Dec 18th, 2008, 03:52:17 PM
That is very cool!
Hey Holly, how did you make that? Or let it be made?
Lilaena De'Ville
Dec 18th, 2008, 03:54:59 PM
HOOORAAY it looks great, I'm so happy! A rare first edition!
oh if others are interested in getting one, let me know. I could also use some authors' last names if I do a second edition ;)
edit: I did it through lulu.com
Nya Halcyon
Dec 18th, 2008, 03:58:37 PM
Now that's something I gotta remember....
And a really cool idea... we should make more of these, an entire series :p
Lilaena De'Ville
Dec 18th, 2008, 03:59:36 PM
Completed roleplays are required. Makes it difficult to get a whole storyline that's useable.
Of all of the RPs I used, only one was incomplete, and I finished it for the book. So it has BONUS material!
Nya Halcyon
Dec 18th, 2008, 04:03:35 PM
True.... there's not an awful lot of completed material around...
Dasquian Belargic
Dec 18th, 2008, 04:04:53 PM
Think of these books as motivation to finish threads then? :D

Dec 18th, 2008, 04:12:37 PM

I'm really curious to find out when mine'll get there.... international shipping is horribly buggy these days! The other week I posted something off to the UK which took two weeks, so I don't want to know how long it'd take to the US....

Dec 24th, 2008, 03:07:44 AM
Yeah mine was sent over week ago... should be there by now.
Haven't received anything either but if it's from the US - I just got a package today that I ordered THREE weeks ago from someone in the US, so there's a good chance the secret santa package will take equally long.

Just got mine. Books! I can never have enough books, but I never have enough bookshelf. :lol And I don't think you knew, but I'm a fan of Boris Vallejo's work, so the cover on one of the books is right up my alley.
Oh yeah, Miranda is my Santa! Thanks so much! I'll be reading...:hug

Yay! :D I am so glad you liked the books and a total bonus to the cover art! I love his work too! Andre Norton is a favorite fantasy author of mine and wanted to share :)
Just to clarify, you did get 2 packages with 2 books each right? Shipping was cheaper that way ^_^

I sent postcards from the Vatican to various places in the US, and they took roughly one and a half weeks to get there. It took only a week for them to get from Italy to the UK. Then again, maybe the Vatican post office is very efficient!
Then again, I have had post from the US this year that took about 7 working days to get here.
