Yes/no? Should we geek-out and dress up as the characters of Star Wars, or (worse/better still) as our own roleplaying characters? We've got a decent sized group of people shacking up in Robot House, so we could easily get some kind of group theme going...
Thoughts? :whaa

I'm thinking Star Wars characters, not RPing characters. We don't want to be too obscure otherwise other people won't appreciate our costumes. And for that matter if I dressed up as Arya people would think that I'm Trinity. ;) Our characters all look like other characters, if you know what I mean.

I know what you mean.
Still, Yog should dress up as a Yog.

I'm all for dressing as our own characters. People dress up as obscure characters there anyway. There's tons of random jedi and stormtrooper con-goers, so I don't see it as being out of the norm. Plus that doesn't even count the folks that simply dress according to genre. Steampunk anyone?
Not only that, but when people ask who we're supposed to be, we can hand them our sw-fans business cards :D

OH hells yes. Dressing as an Inquisitor would be freaking awesome.
I'd have to shave the facial hair, though.

I just bought a leather corset which would make for a cool costume, but I don't think I'm gonna be at Dragon Con. :(

There may be some Princess Leia shenanigans going on, but I'm not sure that I'm brave enough for a metal bikini, even after I lose the weight. ;)

Satkia is going as Six (in that red dress) so I'm looking into putting together a Galactica off-duty 'uniform' i.e. http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/Image:Tee_mini.JPG

I have the shirts for that, but I ordered them a little too big for me. Didn't fit right. But i have BSG dogtags if you want me to borrow? ;) They're not hard to find on ebay.
I'm considering a Padme costume. :p Too bad Ryla is MIA, perhaps I could beg/plead/shower her with riches to sew me something.... she's so talented!

Where did you get your shirts from? The best I've found so far is on amazon:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nike-Womans-Vent-Sleeveless-T-Shirt/dp/B001CLRCNY/ref=wl_it_dp?ie=UTF8&coliid=I3QSD9HFI5B02B&colid=190GAGBIDVJKC

and yes thank you please I would like to borrow the dogtags :D

Yes, guys, I'm crazy enough to dress as Six. *grins* *bounce*
And I'll surely dress as Satkia one other time, because well... I look like her and she owns my closet. *whistles*

I got mine from ebay. They're custom made, at least the black tank is. The undershirt is just a man's sleeveless tank... If I got a smaller grey sleeveless shirt it would work better for me it just wasn't fitted enough. :)

I'd love to go, simply for the costuming part (ok,ok, meeting everyone would be a bonus too :p)! Gawd knows I have a small closet of costumes!
But baby stuff comes first. :p
As for costuming and ideas and materials, really not too hard. You can either go the semi-intricate route of designing a costume and having a seamstress make it for you (one of my fav routes), or you can go the none-intricate route of piecing the costume together from various places like bargain stores and eBay (this is the more budget-friendly route).
Actually, my very first costume I put together was my Sith costume (http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a57/Nevlonniel/Costumes/LadyVader.jpg), pieced together from dance catelogues (body suit), various websites (cloak, lightsaber), and stores (belt, shoes). And remember make-up, elaborate or otherwise, always finishes of the costume nicely. It's like the cherry on top of the whipped cream. :)
From there on in, it was all downhill (http://s9.photobucket.com/albums/a57/Nevlonniel/Costumes/) (just to show a few). :uhoh
I really can't wait to see everyone's finished costumes! I love costuming! It's so much fun! :D

How to make Dr. Horrible & Captain Hammer costumes (http://herofashions.blogspot.com/2008/07/dr-horrible-captain-hammer.html)
Dr. Horrible (http://img2.timeinc.net/ew/dynamic/imgs/080724/must-list/dr-horrible_l.jpg)
Aside from the info provided above, you might also be able to find most of Dr. Horrible's items at costume shops, supply stores, and/or eBay, such as the Goggles (http://cgi.ebay.com/DOCTOR-DR-HORRIBLE-HALLOWEEN-COSTUME-GOGGLES-GLASSES_W0QQitemZ260334538043QQcmdZViewItemQQptZBI _Welding_Supplies?hash=item260334538043&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72:1240|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318|301:1|2 93:1|294:50).
Captain Hammer (http://a942.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/51/l_a53a6650dbc43e02917c6fd80d1180fd.jpg)
Shirt:
Captain Hammer t-shirt (http://drhorrible.shop.bravadousa.com/Product.aspx?cp=15324_15784&pc=BGCTDH33)
It'd be easy enough to get or make the logo that goes on the t-shirt and then have it printed on a shirt through cafepress.com or similar website.
Gloves:
Pirate gloves (http://ravenswoodleather.com/Gauntlets/swordcow.html)
Darth vader gloves (http://www.amazon.com/BOS-V-for-Vendetta-Gloves/dp/B000HZV5VG/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&s=apparel&qid=1241108877&sr=8-16) (why they labeled it as 'V for Vendetta' is beyond me)
Shoes:
While you don't see them often, they look like regular black compat boots of sorts. I'm sure you could get away with any kind of simple black boot.
Belt:
Black belt with smooth gold buckle. Clothing store is your best bet.

Yes, costumes can be made under a budget, but it's still going to cost.

Then I'd get rushed by security ^_^;

Honestly, when it comes to the clothing, it'd be a very easy costume to put together. Hell, you could probably find all the pieces at your local mall, Walmart, Target, Old Navy, etc.
The hardest would be finding pieces for the accessories: gun belt and guns
But thankfully, there are a LOT of fans out there, and most have done the footwork (http://www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.asp?b=3&t=18380) already. :)

You could always try and make it yourself (http://padme-skywalker77.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html). The patterns, fabric, and sewing won't cost much. I don't know what the accessories and hardware would run though.
(Fun note: I was going to make this costume, or rather, I was going to have my seamtress make it for me for this years ComicCon. BUT, ComicCon happens to land on the week I'm due, so, yeah, no go. :p )

And as for the Farva costume, that should be fairly simple. It looks like a standard tan cops uniform. I'm sure it'd be easy enough to find at costume shops, or even online costume stores.
