I didn't even know he was sick

That is a major shock for me as he was a great writer although his books lately had gotten a little weird.

His best book, IMHO, is about his own life. Travels is such an amazing piece, shows you some of the interesting things he did in his life(thru the mid 80's anyways). I always hoped for a follow up, but now of course there never will be one.
Among his fiction, I probably found his best work to be The Terminal Man, Jurassic Park, The Andromeda Strain, and Next. But really, I enjoyed all of his books(the ones I read anyways), even his ones under assumed names.
I really am sad about this. Sixty six is too young.

Although I thought the last couple of Michael Crichton's books that I read were not all that great, he was still overall a great writer with a terrific imagination. His loss is a tremendous one, especially since it was so out of the blue. :(
