Well, did you? THOSE WHO DO NOT VOTE DO NOT HAVE A RIGHT TO COMPLAIN ABOUT RESULTS!

Yes they do. There are only two feasible options, McCain or Obama. Personally, those two candidates don't expressly espouse my alignment (chaotic good, if you're wondering).
As such, I can complain that my personal frame of beliefs were not adequately represented by either candidate.
That being said :) I'll be voting at 6:30 pm.
Just don't want people to be so black-or-white.

George Carlin had a great rift that ONLY people who fail to vote have the right to complain. Mainly because they're not responisble for the fools running the country. As usual, Carlin always gave you something to laugh and think about.

Statement directed to people who can't be bothered to vote:
Even if you don't like the options, there are usually some other issues or candidates worth voting about, like judges, county / state proposals etc. If you don't like the leading candidates, then vote for the guy with 1%, hell vote blank, demonstrate, or whatever, but do something. Sitting at home too lazy to care about the state of your own country is an insult to democracy.

Someone explain how US voting works to me.
Do you only get the choice of two candidates, and an 'abstain'?

On my ballot there were 3 elections; Prez., Senate, House Rep. The following candidates were listed for President;
Democratic Party: Barack Obama/Joe Biden
Republican Party: John McCain/Sarah Palin
Independent Green Party: Chuck Baldwin/Darrell Castle
Libertarian Party: Bob Barr/Wayne Root
Green Party: Cynthia McKinney/Rosa Clemente
Write In:
Now, this varies from state to state a bit because some of these candidates did not have enough signatures to get on the ballot in all 50 states. So you literally have 6 options, but only 2 are realistic.

I voted early. There are several choices to choose from, I remember seeing Ralph Nader on the ballot choice for president. Just look up a 2008 Sample Ballot online to see the choices.

They vote on all sorts of positions and proposals, including senators and congressmen.
Here is an example ballot from Maryland. Change url as appropriate to see the various states:

.. and here is an example of Gubernatorial ballot (2 years before and after presidential elections)

I did the paper ballot in '04, but when I voted this year I used a nice shiny touch-screen thing.

I did the early voting last week. We had touch screens here in my town (I am in Colorado).
Many companies were giving freebies for voting, like Starbucks and Krispy Kreme. Well if that isn't incentive enough, I don't know what is!
This is exciting, no matter who you voted for. I shall be glued to the TV all night.

The senate races are all very important too - if the Democrats get the filibuster proof majority it will be very interesting...

As I mentioned in the big discussion thread, I voted on my lunch break earlier today.
As a message to those who are apathetic about voting: Election cycles aren't just about choosing who sits in the White House, or gets to be a Senator or Congressman. There are always other really important positions up for grabs on you local level, as well as local and state referendums. It's these people and these choices that will often most directly have an impact on your daily lives. Give it your due diligence to find out about these candidates and ballot measures. Don't let your frustration or anger with the federal level of government keep you from making your opinion known on your city, county or state level. A great example of this is the number of gay marriage referendums on ballots in states all about the country (not just Prop 8 in California, no less than half a dozen other states voted on similar propositions).
It's not just about big shots like Obama and McCain. It's also about your neighbor who just might be running for alderman or county supervisor. Keep that in mind the next time you have a chance to vote.

I also voted absentee for Ohio. Among the local referendums was a license for a casino in the Cincinnati area - the casino would be taxed, and the taxes would supposedly help the local school districts. Sorry, don't want to give the schools any more incentive to fail at teaching basic math skills.

Good God, no! >_< If we wanted to live in Japan-like conditions we'd move to Japan. I swear this is the direction our city planners are trying to take our cities. :shakefist Keep property values artificially high by turning all the rest of the land into 'public parks' and make it impossible for cities and towns to expand their borders. damn them! :p

I voted yesterday morning on my way in to work. No lines! :D
Though... they did tell me that I was in the wrong place and that I had to go to another district to vote. This after I had specifically asked three times where I was supposed to go! |I
But! I did manage to get there eventually and vote, and make it to work on time!
