View Full Version : How often do you read?

And by read, I don't mean forums or blogs or even newspapers really - but books (or e-books I guess)! Stuff that you don't have to read for some academic course or whatever, but that you have chosen to pick up and occupy your free time with.
I'm curious mostly about how much fiction everyone is reading, as a contrast to the TV viewing thread.

I read a lot, but a lot less than I used to before having kids. I average two or three average-length novels a week, because I almost never just read one thing at a time.

Ehh... Right now, it's a book every few weeks...as in it takes me a few weeks to finish a book. It's a vast difference from inhaling five to ten novels a week before I had the munchkin.

I try to read at least an hour each day, to stop my brain from shrivelling up >_<

I read at least a half hour every night. Any of you all use goodreads.com? I hooked up with that and it's kinda cool - you can see what your friends are reading, post reviews, etc...

Signed up - my name is Bookmark.
I don't read as often as I like, but as of this weekend, I'll be reading at least for 30 minutes to an hour before bed, and possibly while I'm in work - quiet days in a call centre allow for a lot of web browsing and crossword puzzles, so I'll be taking a book from now on :)

I've been reading Star Wars novels for the past few months. Mostly the X-Wing series, but a little bit of other books, too. I just picked one up about a group of clones that would rule if the author wasn't trying so hard to shove Mandalorian crap down her readers' throats.

I have a confession to make. I can't read.

I happen to like said author :p AND her books. A lot. Her last one is one of the most profound SW books written, IMO.
Anyway, I read about two or three novels a week, and usually whatever other books I come across for school or just interest. I do have times when I don't get to read at all, if there's too much else going on - but it's usually followed by periods of intense reading again.

Star Wars - Order 66, a Republic Commando novel (http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Star-Wars-Order-66/Karen-Traviss/e/9780345506184/?itm=8).
Might be helpful to read the other three in the series, first, though (Hard Contact, Triple Zero, and True Colours)
If you like your Jedi, and dislike even the mention of Mandalorians, don't bother - people tend to get a bit agitated about various things in it if they're not open to other perspectives.

Whoever said that? I like Mandalorians. The Fetts are amazing. The Clones made the 2D Clones Wars cartoons for me. But Karen Traviss is throwing random Mandalorian into Basic conversations the same way rabid anime fanatics fling Japanese words into their English conversations. It just makes me twitch a little. It's fine. Really, I'm enjoying the book. You can calm down now.

Heh... that was just a general warning, sorta. I've been in too many arguments about the whole matter recently so I started adding a warning to it everytime I recommend the book to anyone. It's true about the random Mando, as you said - but after a while it doesn't register anymore...

I'm adjusting. I'm barely registering most of it now.
For the record, the book is Triple Zero. Skirata and Fi are easily my favorite characters so far.

I only really read books if it's something that can hold my attention for more than two seconds. If I really enjoy a book, I can have it read in a day.
I had a huge pile of Star Wars novels, none of which I read (although I did TRY, honest!). I really want to get the third Dexter book, even though I heard it's not as a good as the first two.

I read half of a Clone Wars novel, but it got into a side story about some no-name boring people trapped in a cave...it was SO DULL. I have books on my shelf that I have yet to read - the last Maxium Ride book (loved that series!) and a couple Neil Gaiman and Jeff Noon novels. >_<
Right now I'm reading "German - Learn in 4 easy steps!". :)

I read a minimum of 2 new books a month (excluding stuff for school or work). Sometimes more, depending on my work/school schedule.
