Watching Chicago vs. Atlanta right now, and the Falcons just got a big break. Jerious Norwood was stopped on a third-down run, and the Bears D stripped the ball. At first it looked like the ball was loose for a while until the Falcons managed to recover it - 4th down.

But then the ref came out and explained that the Bears recovered the fumble, and then, without being touched down, fumbled the ball away again back to the Falcons. That's two changes of possession and a fresh first down.

Replay confirms the ref's call. A Bears defender lying on his stomach pulled the ball in, and there were no Falcons around him, so he started to get up to try to run. But as he got up, he knocked the ball out of his own hands. Bizarre.

Tampa Bay has been shutting down the Carolina Offense for the most part during the first half. First a punt attempt is blocked and returned for a touchdown, then the ball is intercepted and returned for a touchdown. Add in another interception for a field goal, and the Bucs are up 17-3 over the Panthers at halftime.

The Miami/Houston game was just bananas there at the end. I'm happy for the Texans though, that was a great finish!

Several wild finishes here. Minnesota kicked a late FG to get a Win. Houston won a wild game. Chicago just scored a TD to take the lead with 11 seconds left. 1 second left for Atlanta to get a FG try.

Holy cow, what a drive by the Texans! 76 yards in 1:42 to score the go-ahead TD with 3 seconds left!

After a 1st-down pass to the Miami 3 and two incomplete shots at the endzone, the Texans spread the Miami defense with an empty set, and Matt Schaub ran the QB draw behind a great block by the center. An awesome call by Matt Kubiak after some absolutely outrageous catches by Andre Johnson. And here I thought I was watching another late-game meltdown by a team that doesn't know how to win.

EDIT: And apparently while I was watching that and shaking my head in disbelief, Atlanta just kicked a field goal with one second to go to take back the lead after a late TD by Chicago. Wow, two of my picks just got saved from the jaws of defeat. Amazing finishes!

Too bad I was way off with Carolina. :lol

Dragon

Carson Palmer didn't play again today. I haven't been in the loop with him, but apparently he had an enflamed throwing elbow. In both of his starts at QB for the Bengals, Ryan Fitzpatrick has been the team's leading rusher. The Bengals are an absolute mess, and Marvin Lewis had better be updating his resume.

Hmm, J.J. Arrington returned the opening kickoff for a TD against Dallas. I notice that Kazaar is the only one who picked Arizona to win...

Jedi Master Carr

:eek ANOTHER fumble by Romo, this one in his own endzone and recovered for a TD!!!

Challenged by Wade Phillips, so let's see... yeah, that's the tuck rule. This will be overturned.

Wow, Dallas got really lucky there after already getting lucky early in the first quarter when the refs called Romo down by contact when he fumbled it away inside his own 20.

They're pounding the floor for forcing an incomplete pass on second down. I mean... I appreciate that you like your team, but come on!

Meanwhile, Jacksonville is really taking it to the Broncos in Denver. Garrard is 22/26 for 252 yards and a TD, Maurice Jones-Drew has 93 yards on 13 carries, and the defense has held the Broncos to one TD. Jaguars lead it 24-10.

The Eagles must have used up all their good defense for the season against Pittsburgh. They trail 23-17 in San Francisco, and after a 57-yard catch by Vernon Davis, the 49ers are deep in Philly territory once more.

Charlie Frye is starting for the hapless Seahawks against the Packers. Amazingly, they've kept it close. Frye connected for a TD pass after an Aaron Rodgers fumble gave him a short field. Packers lead it 17-10.

Edit: Ok... well... ok...

Dragon
Oct 12th, 2008, 05:22:10 PM
Kicking deep was the right decision. If you don't recover the onside kick, you give the Cardinals great field position and a great opportunity to kick a field goal. The defense has held strong for most of the game, and they did right there. Now it's in the hands of an offense that's got a lot of momentum after the big play to Barber.

I really want to thank the Niners for the comic relief. I love 'em with all my heart, but overall they played like a bunch of clowns today :lol. At least I picked the Eagles...hey, I'm not a fair-weather fan, I'm just realistic, doncha know! :angel

Dragon

Cowboys get help again because the refs failed to notice the injured Cardinal on the field before Romo clocked the ball. Should have been a forced time-out to deal with the injury, but now it's a 5-yard penalty to make the tying field goal a little easier.

And that 52-yard attempt is.... iced. Because now the officials are reviewing the previous play? :huh

NO WAY! The kick was blocked, but Wisenhunt called a timeout at the snap! Cowboys get a Mulligan! And it's good!

Note, this is why I hate that trick.

Oh, and it got noisy upstairs again.

Only use of that tactic I ever liked was when Mike Tomlin of the Steelers called a ref over and told him, "I'm going to pretend like I'm going to call a time-out at the snap."

The opposing kicker missed. :)

EDIT: Romo fumbles and falls right on it. For the fourth time in this game, he is so frackin' lucky. Hey, what do you say this game ends in a tie? Do we have a rule for that? ;)

EDIT: :eek :eek :eek

Yog
Oct 12th, 2008, 05:38:37 PM
Yeah, more often than not, it ends up benefiting the kicking team.

We now got an angry Cowboys offense ready to show who is the boss >D

The ending of the Chicago/Atlanta game was probably the best one though.

What do you know... everybody picked the Giants for tomorrow!

I don't think it's a sure thing, by any means, but the Browns will definitely have to show something they haven't shown yet this season to hang with them. Granted, the Bengals did take the Giants to overtime in week 3...

Yog

Giants and Titans are the only undefeated teams. Monday game, I think Giants will steamroll Browns. Anything else would be a shock to me.

ouch the Cowboys are in trouble. I guess we were all wrong about the Browns winning. They are looking great tonight. I guess the Titans are the last unbeaten. They will go 6-0 since they play the Chiefs next week.

Dragon

Eli just threw a pick-six - it's 33-14 with 8:00 left. Have the Browns finally figured out this whole moving the ball thing?

Jedi Master Carr
Oct 13th, 2008, 09:19:14 PM
It sure looks like it. I was afraid I spoke too soon, but I think the browns have won this game.

It is over now. Through 6 weeks there isn't a dominant team. The Titans look like the best team only because they are unbeaten but they still don't look dominant (except on defense). This is a strange season.

Dragon
Oct 13th, 2008, 09:37:55 PM
No, this is a normal season. Last season was the strange one. You can't predict the division winners after the first quarter of the season, let alone the Super Bowl participants.

The Giants are still one of the most complete teams in the league. Even great teams get outplayed. Heck, the Patriots got outplayed by the hapless Ravens last year and only won because they were lucky.

Liam Jinn

Well the last 5 seasons you had a team that looked great by this point. The Pats 3 times and the Chargers and colts the other two times. Unless you want to argue the Titans fit into that category. I think they are a great team and can win the SB but am not prepared to pick that until they beat a few more really good teams.

I don't think TEN will have serious competition again until Week 8, but the way things are going right now, I don't think there is such a thing as an upset pick anymore. Of course, quarterbacks are dropping left and right. GB, DAL, NE have all lost their starters for a short to season long time.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and TB, but I think Garcia is doing a much better job than Griese was doing. He overthrows the ball too much.

Jedi Master Carr
Oct 14th, 2008, 08:01:30 AM
The Titans get the Colts in Week 8 so that should be a heck of a game. I don't see the Chiefs upsetting the Titans. I know the Broncos got beat by them but they aren't that good. The Chiefs are awful.
