So based on some things I have seen on this preview, I think somehow Linderman is coming back. With this season about villains I think we will see other villains return like Adam.

The first two hours are very entertaining So Sylar has Claire powers now although he didn't kill her. Linderman I guess is in Nathan's head. Not sure how that is possible. Future Peter has made the future worse. It looks like Adam is coming back and will get a group of villains together including Knox, Matt's dad, Jessica (or who ever she is), and Sylar. Not sure what Mama Peterili is up to like is Sylar her son? Hiro might get killed by Ando and finally we have stupid Mohander he is turning into a monster

Mohinder was like Beast... and now who knows what... :uhoh

I like it so far! Sylar is Mama Petrelli's son...? I don't really believe much she says, however. It was cool to get confirmation on her power though!

Lots and lots of info to digest after last night's 2 hours...wow, it was worth the 9-month wait. :)

Personally, I think Mama Petrelli isn't speaking literally about Sylar being her son..although I did read that we're going to see Papa Petrelli in flashbacks this year, so who knows? It would definitely raise the creepiness factor if he's Peter and Nathan's brother. And I loved finally seeing what Mama Petrelli's power is, that was neat.

Now we know for sure what Sylar does with people's brains, and it wasn't nearly as complicated as we thought it might be. I loved his reaction to Claire asking if he was going to eat her brain :lol. And I thought it was really amusing how he almost kindly gave her the top of her head back :lol.

Woohoo, and how massively has Future Peter screwed things up? I love storylines like that.

Funniest moment had to be when Hiro opened the safe and put the second DVD in, and the first thing his father said was, "I told you not to open the safe!" :lol

Plus, I liked seeing a couple of major horror movie homages in the episodes. First, there was Claire hiding in a closet with a huge knife while Sylar yanked on the closet doors, straight out of Halloween. And now Mohinder seems to be turning into his version of Brundlefly. I swear, if he starts pulling his fingernails out, I'll scream :lol.

I don't think Nathan is halucinating, if that is what you are suggesting. There is definitely something more going on there.

Was it just me? Or after the greatness of the season opener, did last night's episode seem a little lackluster? Although I got creepy enjoyment out of Bennet and Sylar together, the stuff with Claire and Meredith wasn't all that great.

And confirmation came that Niki is dead, along with Jessica, which to me isn't the biggest loss in the world. But now we've apparently got cloning or genetic manipulation thrown into the mix!

It's not just you. Although, the season opening was fantastic.

What makes this show great is all the plot twists and revelations. It seems they threw alot of those out in the opening, and then when it came to the third episode, there was not much there in comparison.

I loved last night's show. And Sylar is awesome made of awesome and dipped in awesome sauce. I like that while Mrs. Petrelli tries to rationalize him by saying "he just can't help himself" in the bank you can clearly see that Sylar enjoys being who he is. Its not that he can't control his 'hunger' he doesn't want to.

He's also a great asset and I think Ma Petrelli is smart to use him. I just think its going to turn out badly for her in the long run. Also I'm not sure I believe that he's her son, except that I sort of do since she's pretty twisted. To have him be Nathan and Peter's half-brother is very cool, very arch nemesis like. I'm assuming half brother.

The Fire Mom part was a bit odd, especially since only Claire was smothering. If the oxygen was being sucked out, then Meredith shouldn't have been able to breathe either. And, I think she was a terrible choice for protection as she's sort of trailer trash who was using Claire for money in the first season (trying to get cash out of Nathan).

But they needed a catalyst to send Claire out cross-country, and so they did it. It was a little messy but it worked.

Hiro and Ando are hilarious and breaking my heart by how Hiro is pushing Ando away and creating a self-fullfilling prophecy. I love that they ran into the Hatian and are now in level 5. Hilarious!

And Parkman's story is interesting interesting! Another painter, who paints only Matt's future? Very cool. In the first episode (second half I guess?) I thought it was great that he thought the turtle was 'talking' to him.

I haven't watched this week's episode yet, but regarding the African painter: wasn't the same painting of the world blowing up that Matt saw on the rock also painted on the warehousre where Muhinder transformed? Is that the same premonition painting showing up in two places, or did the African paint the picture that he saw in his vision, as some kind of prophecy of Muhinder transforming?

Lilaena De'Ville

All his paintings are connected to Matt. So, it has something to do with Matt's near future.

Just watched the new episode. Is the blonde lass in the paintings Hiro's super-speedy nemesis, maybe? Of the people we've encountered so far, she's the only one that I'm reminded of.

It could be that the painter only paints Matt's future, but I'm not sure it's that simple. Previously, they covered everything, but that's because everything was intertwined: Peter, Noah, etc needed to see images of the big picture so that they could bring that future about. Its unlikely that anyone else will wind up in Africa, so maybe the paintings this season only relate to Matt because he is the only person destined to see them?

Gotta agree with Ryan though - that's my favourite subplot so far as well!

Holy cow!

What an episode last night! I love temporal conundrums and complications, and this one had SO many. My biggest questions are, who is Noah's mother, and how did Gabriel become such a nice Mr. Mom? :eek

And this episode had the best final line, ever, hands down. :lol

Lilaena De'Ville
Oct 7th, 2008, 10:34:49 AM
I love bad Sylar and I love good Gabriel!!! He's just the best character ever. I really really liked this episode. Its going to take some time to muddle out everything that was 'revealed' in the future, though.

The biggest and most obvious thing is that the people who think they are 'right' are the bad guys, and the good guys are not who we expect. Sylar seems to like Mr. Bennett - he names his kid after him (which was heartbreaking I felt so sad for him! Doesn't help that I was nursing my own son while watching lol). Mohinder turns into a monster.

I thought it was funny that they could use the same actress for Molly in the future, but can't show her in the present 'cause she's gotten too old to play a little kid. :lol Oh well! And I thought that was Daphne in the paintings in Africa!

Oh oh oh! Totally wanted Matt's spirit guide to be the turtle and it was hilarious that he was following it around.

I can't remember the last line! What was it?

As far as Noah Gray's mother... if we assume its someone we've seen before it could be Elle, I suppose? Maybe not, she might be a little too young and unbalanced. My husband complains bitterly after every episode without her in it. ;)

I think Peter getting Sylar's power was a huuuuuuuuuuuge mistake. Looks like we're in for a switching of roles - Peter the villain and Sylar learning how to control himself and becoming a good guy. I love it!

Jedi Master Carr
Oct 7th, 2008, 10:46:08 AM
The last line was by Adam and he said, "Hiro you son of ____" He never finished it though. I think Angela is evil, because why else does she want Adam back?

Now, this is more like it. After the plot development doldrums of episode 3, we're back in business. Episode 4 ranks as one of the best ever. :D

So what do you guys think Mohinder Suresh is transmuting into? Some kind of beast? A spider perhaps.. o_O

And that Peter / Sylar switch was brilliant.

Talk about packed full of jam!

The fact that Hiro and Ando are working for The Company now is kinda interesting; ironic that they've automatically filled the "One of Us; One of Them" requirement. I wouldn't be surprised if we find them working together in that sort of combo even more.

I'm glad the woman in the painting was Daphne; I'm intregued by who Noah's mother could be. We're running a little low on blonde characters at the minute, and given that everyone in the Patrelli family is dark-haired, I'm guessing that's a clue. It presumably isn't Daphne or Tracey, because they pair off with Matt and Nathan respectively. Unless the show plans to get really creepy, it probably won't be Meredith or Clare either. That pretty much leaves us with Elle - as has been suggested already - or Barbara, the third of the Niki/Tracey triplets. I'm expecting the former, because Gabriel is in league with The Company now, but the latter might make for an interesting twist.

You've gotta feel sorry for Peter. He's got a real hero complex: he feels that he has to save the world, and that no one else is up to it. Evil Peter is always cool - I hope we get to find out how he gets the scar! Maybe Sylar does it, while the Haitian is blocking Peter's powers? - but I wouldn't be surprised if events unfold that actually prevent it from happening.

I'm really intregued about Linderman. Obviously, *something* healed Nathan, but that presumably wasn't the real Linderman. Initially, I thought they were going to explain it away as some residual effect from the blood transfusion that Adam gave him last season, but it seems they're going beyond that. Wouldn't it be cool / creepy if Linderman turns out to be a third "Peter" - one that travelled back in time to save Nathan from Evil Peter, to try and set things back on track to undo all of his meddling?

Lastly, I'm guessing that Muhinder is transforming into a cockroach. For starters, there was one wandering around on his tape recorder when Peter walked into his lab (although Sylar always had a cockroach with him, so who knows?). The rash on his back could easily be chitinous stuff, a la bugs and beetles. Also, when Maya came in, he closed the blinds and appeared to be wincing - light sensitivity, maybe? That'd explain why he was keeping to the shadows and wearing a hood when Peter saw him; being a big scary monster could explain that too, I guess!

Jedi Master Carr

he could be turning into a spider, I guess we will have to wait and see.

Wait wait wait - I just had a thought.

Linderman is dead.

Matt's dad is not dead. He can make people see things that aren't there. And Mama Petrelli has dreamt about him so we know he's coming back. Still don't know how Nathan came back except maybe someone slipped him some Claire or Adam blood.

O_o I don't understand how Future Peter was killed if he has Claire's power. Was it just because the Hatian was there? And if so, why not start healing after the Hatian leaves?

When Claire was talking about killing Present Peter, she mentioned something along the lines of "a bullet in the back of the head should do it". Maybe Future Peter has a bullet lodged in his brain, and that's having the same effect as a shard of glass previously has had on Claire and Peter - they won't regenerate until the bullet is removed?

I still say Mohinder is turning into Brundlefly. Brundlefly, I tell you! Be afraid, be very afraid! :D

About Future Peter's scar...I had a moment thinking we were going to see the origin of it when Future Claire was slicing Present Peter up with the scalpel. No such luck, though.

And I love the whole idea of Peter turning into Sylar. It was really a horrifying moment when he killed Future Nathan a la Sylar...this is one of the things this show does well, raising some moral questions and ideas. And this is one of the most significant ones they've raised so far. It will be fascinating to see Peter struggle with this over the coming episodes.

Lilaena De'Ville

:lol Yeah I haven't seen the Fly but I read the Heroes threads at SA for giggles and someone there was like "There are two kinds of people in this thread, those that have seen the Fly and those that think Mohinder is turning into a spider man." Apparently a lot of his 'transformation' sequences are very very similar to those in The Fly, so that thinking the director/writers were going for anything else is a little silly.

Future Peter goes back in time and kills Present Nathan, and Present Peter goes into the future and kills Future Nathan. This does not bode well for their relationship. ;)

I wish the writers would do a little more work with the time paradoxes and things that they've created over the last year or so. Season 1 wrapped up all their loose ends pretty well. But we've got Peter's Irish girlfriend stuck in an alternate future that they stopped from happening and he doesn't seem to even remember she existed at all. Future Peter comes back from a future where Nathan tells everyone about them and they're persecuted to stop him, and does.

Then he goes back into the future and everything is changed but ... well I guess it works if he'd already gone in to the future off camera before he took Peter there. And its not just Claire trying to kill him its the 'super friends' of The Company trying to off him. They should have given Season 3 Future Claire #2 a different hairstyle than Season 3 Future Claire #1 to make it less (more?) confusing.

:lol My head is exploding.

The way that time changes work in Heroes is a little confusing anyway. Ando and Hiro met the waitress that Sylar killed; Hiro went back to "save her", had a six month relationship, and then came back. Ando however still remembered Hiro meeting the waitress for the first time. If she already knew him, then none of that should have happened, and Ando would have been a lot more confused than he already was.

It makes you wonder: who else notices that the timeline has changed, and at what point does it happen? Future Peter came back and shot Present Nathan, which altered the future. Does Future Claire know that the timeline has changed? How come Future Hiro in Season 1 didn't remember his conversation with Past Hiro?

Are we looking at new timelines branching off, a la Back to the Future, Part 2? If so, then Peter's Irish girlfriend is probably stuck in an alternate future, with no hope of being rescued. The only way to save her would be to travel back and stop Past Peter taking her to the future in the first place.

I sense a grandfather paradox coming along. >_<

See The Fly, like yesterday. It's a classic.

I immediately thought it was very similar to the Fly, especially that bathroom scene where he discovers the wounds on his back. But I think he is turning into something else, because of the cobweb and cockroach on the desk. I have the feeling he is turning into something more sinister. The gooey stuff on his hands indicated to me, it could be glands for secreting a web like substance, and the super human climbing and agility suggests something else than a cockroach.

That's true... although cockroaches can make it up walls if they're determined enough. My parents used to live in Malta, and had to move the bed away from the wall to keep it roach-free. *shudder*

I think he tricked Knox somehow, we shall see how. The bigger shock is Papa Petrelli isn't dead but in some kind of vegetative state. Maury was doing his dirty work for him which did make a lot of sense. Not sure how Nathan survived though. I wonder what Petrelli's power is? I do think he made a fatal mistake bring Adam to his side. I have a feeling Adam will double cross him down the road and pull the plug on him, taking over Pinehurst. I suspect that will be what leads to the awful future. Adam sees himself as god anyway.

Ma Petrelli is paralyzed... I really liked this episode except that Claire's actions and acting are really grating on me this season. She's... one dimensional. And her 'tortured' face is over played. She needs more than two expressions.

ANDO HAD BETTER NOT BE DEAD (most 'dead' characters so far have come back so I'm not too worried... well a little...) and I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT HIRO WOULD STAB HIM that is totally against his character.

I LOVED this episode.

So, is Suresh turning into a spider or what? I say my theory is looking more likely now that he is wrapping his victims in cocoons and the walls are covered with some kind of web. I can't wait to see what happens when the transformation is complete. What a tragic downfall for Suresh. At the beginning of the series, he was nobility incarnated. It's fascinating how bad he turned out eventually. This is one of the more interesting themes of the third season btw; characters switching roles, from traditional good / bad guys, and some are probably in the grey area.

Hiro stabbed Ando, basically to get in with the people who could help him find Adam. As we know, Adam's blood has the ability to bring people back from the dead. I reckon Hiro was thinking about that, and was planning to revive Ando that way whenever he got the chance.

That said, in the flash-forward episodes from this season, we haven't actually seen "future Hiro" at all. I would have expected him to be hanging around with Claire, Daphne and co, given what we know now. Did we not see him intentionally, so we didn't know that Ando died, or does Hiro not make it either?

Also, a quick "science" note. When Peter turned up in Sylar's cell, he still had the cuts on his chest that Claire gave him. Despite being free of the Haitan, they hadn't started to heal, as would be expected. I think that probably explains the mechanism behind how Peter gets the scar: his powers are sapped (or it happens in his coma), and he doesn't heal that injury afterwards.

Yeah, but that was "Season 3 Future Version 1". That future was altered somewhat by Future Peter coming back and shooting Nathan, Present Peter absorbing Sylar's power, etc. Hiro died in the future where Daphne didn't; now everything is different, so it could all have changed. *shrug*

Just a thought, though: we now know what "Linderman" is, so obviously that isn't what healed Nathan after the shooting. What did? Did someone sneak him more blood from Adam/Claire/someone else with that ability? Has that transfusion effectively given him those regenerative abilities?

Why couldn't Future Peter have healed Nathan? In a world full of superpowered people, I kinda figure the ability would've come up in his bag of tricks. I mean, he can put one person inside another. That strikes me as a little more complicated than healing another person.

Speaking of, I wonder if Peter can gain powers from his future self.

I don't recall Hiro ever knowing what Adam's blood could do for other people. Peter knew, and of course Claire/Sylar/Noah/Suresh know, but I don't think Hiro's had any long chats with them recently.

That being the case, I think the Hiro story will fall either one of two ways. On one hand, maybe he really did stab Ando, thus causing him to come back with a grudge and lead to the future we saw. Or he stabbed Ando with some plan in mind to save him. I personally think it's the latter, since Hiro has proven on occasion to have some real intelligence beneath his happy-go-lucky exterior, but we will see.

They were showing him stopping time and altering things off camera at the beginning of the show (Adam in and out of the coffin) so I imagine that he's probably done something that we didn't see and they'll reveal in the next episode.

Overall, I liked last night's episode quite a bit, but there was just one thing that left me feeling really hacked off.

The death of Adam Monroe. :cry

He was such a great character, I'm truly going to miss him. But at least his death did give us a quick and easy understanding of just how powerful Arthur Petrelli is. Did anyone else do what I did during the final scene, when Peter gave in to give him a hug? I was sitting there shouting, "No, Peter, don't let him touch you!" :lol

Arthur, no matter what happens, is going to have to die. The powers he are getting are strarting to contradict himself. He is soon going to have the extraction hunger that his son has, so there is going to be a vary of complications on the horizon. Even with his immortality, I think he's going to be killed in some abstract extraction or something of that sorts.

Villians don't get that strong without dying horrible, fantastic deaths.

I love it when they do their little tie-together episodes: take a bunch of things that you thought were coincidences earlier on and show that it's all part of some giant cosmic plan. Having Meredith on the train where Claire ran through the fire was cool; I love that Flint is only a "villain" because he's too dumb to be anything else. :lol

And they managed to go a whole episode without Claire being annoying!

I love that they're showing that similar powers are passed down in families... except for synthetic powers, obviously. This doesn't really explain D.L. and Micah (their powers were totally different), but I'm sure that could be explained because one parent had synthetic powers (Nikki) or something or other. After all only one parent's powers are passed (papa petrelli's, not mama's).

I liked this episode, and all the tie ins with what happened in the first season. :)

Poor Hiro, I hope Ando saves the day!

After all only one parent's powers are passed (papa petrelli's, not mama's).

Peter has the ability to absorb powers, as does Sylar - from their dad. Peter has his mom's dream powers as well though... or did he just absorb those from being around her?

And is Papa Patrelli actually a mind-reader, or did he just take that power from someone that was? Can he absorb the powers from those around him without removing the ability (like Peter) if he wants? If so why didn't he already have Adam's ability from earlier encounters? If not, whose mind reader powers did he steal?

And why did Arthur have to kill the awesome spirit walk dude? He was... well... awsome! :(

Peter's absorption power is just from being around people, as opposed to Arthur's (touch) and Gabriel's (seeing the brain?) so he simply absorbed his mother's power just by growing up near her. She said this season to him that her power (dreaming the future) was the first one he absorbed.

John Jackson
Nov 12th, 2008, 12:52:12 AM
True, but if powers are meant to be inherited in some way, are these all manifestations of the same ability, or are they actually discrete "powers"? Is it just the general variation in the abilities - like Flint having blue fire, and Meredith having orange - or is it something else?

I haven't been watching the series due to the network here in Australia putting it on at a God-awful time.

However, just reading around online and they were saying the ratings for this season are really bad (like, even worse than Season 2) and that NBC might potentially even cancel it.

Do any of our US viewers have any better info on how it's travelling?

EDIT: Here's a google page showing some of the rating stories:

I don't know anything about the ratings. Most shows that went away because of the strike and couldn't come back for a few shows before the end of the season when the writers came back have all taken a hit in their ratings.

I know they had to re-write Season 2 to end it early because of the strike, which made it suck, and IMO they should have just kept on like they wanted to in the first place. So what about the strike cutting the season short? Don't sacrifice your story. Just pick it up where you left off.

:shakefist But they didn't, so they wrote some stuff that wasn't ideal and now a lot of people can't figure out if the show sucks or is brilliant. I think a lot of people watch it online as well, which cuts into the ratings. Really, the ratings used for TV shows is ridiculous in the age of online viewing and DVRs.

Rutabaga
Nov 18th, 2008, 07:44:41 AM
If you went just by traditional Nielsen ratings, then yes, the show would be in danger of being canceled. But just yesterday I saw some figures on DVR viewing, and Heroes is like the second most popular show on DVR replay. Plus it's always at the top of the most downloaded shows at iTunes. I also know someone at work who doesn't have cable, so he downloads it from the NBC website and watches it the following day. So if you jumble it all together, I think it's safe to say that it's doing a lot better than people realize, and I don't think NBC would get rid of it just based on the Nielsens. Especially when the rest of their lineup outside of the Law and Order shows pretty much tanks, I think.

I'm in the minority about season 2, I guess...although it had its flaws, I enjoyed it quite a bit. And I'm enjoying season 3 so far too. I thought the best bits in last night's episode were the Sylar/Elle scenes. I think we now could safely make some conclusions about who young Noah's mommy probably is :love.

Arthur Petrelli is pure evil, and he rocks :evil. How interesting that he didn't take Hiro's power, he just scrambled his brains to make him think he was 10 years old again :lol.

And it appears that Elle is NOT the mother of young Noah, considering what Sylar did to her at the end of the episode. Unless something unexpected happens to save her life. Maybe Sylar has changed the future by killing her, and young Noah won't exist. Not sure at this point.

One other question...is Noah Bennet some kind of voyeur? Last week, he took aim at Sylar and Elle just as they were kissing. This week, he finally took the shot after they had had sex. What did he do, sit there and watch while they did it? Ew. :mischief

If you recall, Tim Kring recently fired some executive producers who probably were a big force in the direction of the show. Killing Elle sucked, really. Sure, turning "Gabriel" back into "Sylar" was the aim, but they could've done it so much better. Why couldn't Noah have killed her, to give us some sort of drama? All we got was "Ow, you're hurting me", with a total lack of enthusiasm. Maybe Kristen was pissed about getting killed off, and couldn't be bothered acting during that scene?

I like what's happening with Hiro. Part of me hopes he doesn't get his memories back: he's adorable as a 10-year-old! I like how Ando has developed as a character too: he's gone from being the "useless" normal sidekick to the brains of the duo, which suits him better, I think.

Must agree with the general consensus - I'm getting fed up of the Muhinder storyline. Claire, too: just how many more times are we going to have to hear her whining about her daddy issues before there's some motion on that front? Maybe her secondary ability is that she can't let any topics of conversation die, so she has to continually revisit things again, and again, and again...

That and her crazy idea that just because she can't be hurt somehow she's useful. She... can... do... nothing! Even Alyssa Milano's character on Charmed took kung fu classes so she could be a help offensively when her powers were pretty useless in a fight.

For the last year or so, I've read about a lot of griping by both critics and fans about how the show isn't living up to the promise of the first season. Entertainment Weekly a few weeks ago did a cover story on how the show is broken and some suggestions they had for fixing it. I've been really resistant to that griping, because I enjoyed last season and I had been enjoying this season up until the last 2 episodes. I'm kinda bummed that I'm finding myself griping now.

The EW cover story said that even some of the actors on the show have been complaining about the storylines and how their characters have been acting quite out of character lately. And that's where I'm starting to have some of my problems with the show. I totally agree with the Mohinder and Claire comments...they used to be favorite characters of mine, now Mohinder is just a dumb jerk and Claire is just really whiny, repetitive, and flat. I actually wouldn't miss either of those characters if they were written out of the show. And I'm even getting a little weary of what's going on with Hiro right now...reverting to a 10-year-old was hilarious in the first episode, but now it's getting a little stale and I'm hoping that gets fixed soon.

There has definitely been a shake-up creatively behind the scenes, but a more recent issue of EW said that this 2-part "Eclipse" story is an "unprecented opus" that is part of the "repositioning" of the show, and if that's true, then I'm just a little worried since I didn't think it worked at all.

Don't get me wrong, I am not about to give up on the show after just 2 unsatisfying episodes. After Villains wraps up, after the new year they'll launch the new arc called Fugitives, and we'll see where that leads us. And I'm extraordinarily hesitant to throw around the "jumping the shark" label, because I think that's terribly premature. But I'm going to be watching with a slightly more jaundiced eye right now. O_o

And LD, I'm right there with you about Pushing Daisies...I completely fell head over heels with that show from the first moment it premiered. I knew its cancellation was inevitable, and I will miss it terribly. :cry

I don't know Heroes reminds me some of Sliders in terms of the falling quality. Both shows had amazing concepts and great first seasons but they both went down hill in quality. Oddly, it was for the opposite reasons. Torme the creator of Sliders had no power on the show (Fox was consistently stabbing him in the back and making him change storylines) while Kring seems to have too much power and I don't think he has half the talent of Torme either. Both shows killed popular characters in season 3. Sliders killed off Arturo and now Heroes with Elle and Adam. Well all I can say is when 24 comes back on I will probably start watching that, I will probably tape Heroes, but with my schedule who knows if I will have time to watch it.

Okay, last night's episode was definitely an improvement. Hiro's part of the story was the best. Claire's not so much, but I think that might be a biased opinion on my part...she has become such an annoying character this season, she's gotten to be kind of hard to stomach. And the wig that Hayden Panetierre has been wearing all season gets really distracting at points. (I know, quibble quibble quibble.)

I have to admit to being a little disappointed that Sylar is such a bad guy again. One of the best things they were accomplishing earlier in the season was the exploration of his character and showing how conflicted he was...now he's just a straight-up nasty soulless dude again. Although the "cake?" and elevator moments were just crazy gruesome, I have to admit.

And I'm a little bothered by the "bike messenger has the secret Isaac Mendez sketches!" plot point, that was a little too deus ex machina for me. But overall, like I said, this episode definitely was better than the last two.

Oh, and a note to producers...Ali Larter needs to go. Please :x.

I thoroughly enjoyed last night. I think that Claire's intervention in the past will resolve her daddy issues. I also fully enjoyed Hiro's moments as well. As for Sylar, I tihnk it's about time they brought him back to being a psychopath. One of the best aspects of the first season, of what made this show great was Sylar. He's just out there, and you're never really sure when he'll turn up. The fact he spared Peter from having to kill his own father is going to become a big point, later in the series. The supe soliders story line will be interesting. Considering the next chapter is called "Fugitives" I'd be willing to bet Nathan has them hunting down not just all of the "heroes" but also Sylar. And I'd be willing to bet Peter will get his power back just in time to save the day.

You mean the fact that traveling faster than light let's you go back in time but not forward since that would mean travelling slower than light?

Not really. You know how in High School they have to dumb down the physics? Sometimes, they tell you stuff that isn't exactly correct, but it's "right enough" at a High School level. You can deal with the whole speed of light / time travel thing in a similar way.

The basic idea is that your movement in space and your movement in time are both vectors. When you resolve those two vectors, you come up with a third vector that defines your movement in spacetime. Its like with a triangle, where you work out how long the slopy side is by doing Pythagoras' Theorem on the straight sides.

The idea is that the speed at which you move along the slopy side (spacetime) cannot exceed the speed of light. If we pretend for a minute that your spacetime speed is the speed of light, then in order to start moving faster through space, you have to travel more slowly through time. That's why time slows down (in theory) when you fly around really fast - time diallation, and all that jazz.

What the writers have done is taken the principle a step too far, and assumed that if you go faster than the speed of light in XYZ, you'll have to have negative motion in time - ie. go backwards.

Unfortunately, we're dealing with vectors. The direction of the vector is irrelevant: it's the length that matters. It doesn't matter whether you're travelling forwards or backwards, up or down; that vector is always going to have a length. The smallest that length can possibly be is 0 - you can't have a line that is -7 inches long.

So yeah. In theory, if you travel at the speed of light, time would stand still; if you travelled faster than the speed of light, it would still be standing still, rather than start going backwards.

... told you it was boring. :lol

Actually this makes a lot of sense to me and I enjoyed reading it but I am studying mechatronical engineering so I care a lot about vectors as well but in technical mechanics they never exceed lightspeed or get close to it.

For me, the series started to go downhill with the last 4 episodes of the Villains arc, and the downward spiral is continuing. This used to be one of my favorite shows...now I'm watching it more out of a sense of duty than anything else. I'm going to try to stick with it through the end of the season, but I'm not sure if I can manage that if it doesn't start getting better. And I already know that I will NOT be buying this season on DVD for sure.

Hayden Panitierre used to be so cute and charming, now she's turned into a HORRIBLE actress...what happened?!?!?! :eek

I talked my brother into buying season 1 but he has not watched it yet. I told him that once he has seen the last episode he must decide for himself if he wants more or if he likes the ending and stops watching for good. Sure season two has got a lot of great moments but it is lacking the right ending.

The best thing about season 3 so far is Sylar and that's it. I really love to hate this guy.

Heroes reminds me a little bit of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. A friend told me after reading "Thanks for the Fish" that I now have a decision to make: Stop reading the saga and accept the last message of god to his creation as the perfect ending or I can go to the final book and most likely destroy the saga for me.

I decided not to read the last book but it is waiting for me in my small little library. If heroes does not get back to its former shape I will do the same with it like I do with the Matrix. I pretend that after the first one there was no other installement in the series.

Agreed...Sylar is the only character I still have interest in and find compelling. Although his hitting the road with his new young protege was kinda strange.

I'm relieved to see that I'm not the only one who has become disenchanted with the show. Personally I think Tim Kring needs to go, and go NOW, because he's basically killing the show he created.

You probably wouldn't be able to figure out what is going on. If you were interested I say rent season 1 and go from there. Last night wasn't much better it sucks worse when I go from 24 to watching this, they are like night and day for me.

I think one should watch the first season which is really good because it always felt like the show had somekind of direction and the only thing it was telling you is how it got from A to B.
Then you can still watch the first 10 episodes of season 2 and perhaps the last episode too.

Instead of being character driven, like the first season, the ensuing seasons have been 'plot' driven.

Which might not be too bad, except the plots are growing increasingly bad, and are ignoring character traits laid down in the first season. >_<

A co-worker of mine has still been cheerfully enjoying the show...until last night. She was shocked at the suckage of last night's episode and now agrees that the show is heading straight down the toilet.

The point about the show being so plot-driven now is a legitimate one for sure. What that's led to has been a complete disregard for continuity, and now we have people acting wildly out of character. If something isn't done to salvage the show soon, so much damage will have been done that recovery will be nearly impossible, I think. :(

There were many bad things about last night's episode, but here's the one thing that's still driving me insane today:

Just how did Hiro and Ando get to India?

Lilaena De'Ville
Feb 18th, 2009, 01:56:26 PM
Apparently they weren't put on the 'DO NOT FLY' list by the American Government.

Or... Hiro used his company's money to charter a plane that flies using Impossibilium, and got to India that way.

Since they killed off Daphne they can't say she carried them. >_<

So Daphne is still alive, but she couldn't have been the mode of transportation for Hiro and Ando. So the mystery/sloppy writing remains. :cool

Last night's episode was better, because they stuck with one story and one story only. I remain highly skeptical, though...one improved episode does not mean the series has recovered.

I still wonder what happened to the kid, and the girl who had muscle memory skills from last season went. I mean, they were the coolest from last season and they just got dumped, and when they reasonably make a cameo or apperance they haven't been brought up.

And I hope they didn't kill Daphne. Still wish Sylar had left the kid, would've been cooler.

I almost fell asleep during the episode, right during the much touted Sylar meets his daddy scenes. When it was all over, I was asking myself just why I'm watching the show anymore. I think I have become so disenchanted with it, there may be no coming back for me unless they really--and radically--improve it. It has fallen so far from its glory days of the first season. :(

Seeing Sylar in Danko's apartment at the end came totally out of left field for me. O_o

Oh, and BTW, for me the whole Rebel thing is getting ridiculous, and they need to move that along ASAP. Someone at work who watches the show had an interesting theory on who Rebel is, because Rebel seems to basically be an omnipotent God-like person. Is it possible it's Micah? Because remember, he can manipulate machinery and electronics.

I wouldn't be surprise if it was Micah. They need to bring back his...uh, who was it - cousin, or w/e. The one with the muscle memory or w/e. I thought it was. She needs to come back. Both of those characters need to make a return. Anyway, the Syler thing in the field wasn't really left field. That was the whole point of the conversation between him and his dad.

To point his killing/hunger in the right direction. Anyway, it is all a preference thing. I have to say I'm enjoying it. Not like last season, or the first, but still enjoying it.

I know...I swear, if I'd heard the phase "a boy's best friend is his mother," I would've puked :x.

Here's the other moment that just confused me...so there's Micah, watching with awe as someone who looks just like him is cornered, shot, and falls off the dock. 5 minutes later he's in Sylar's apartment (a really weird turn of events in itself) and he completely freaks out when he sees Sylar shape shift. It just seemed really contradictory and didn't make sense. But that seems to be par for the course this season.

Since the season finale is next Monday, I hold out no hope for any improvements. And I really don't know if I'll bother to return in the fall. Personally I think they should cancel the show and put it out of its--and our--misery.

BTW, my money is on Nathan dying (for good) on the season finale.

Jedi Master Carr

I'd rather see bland Mohinder die. I might try watching in the fall but if stays bad. I think I won't bother to tape it once 24 comes back. NBC won't cancel it this season but if the raitings stay bad or get worse I think next season will be the last. I really don't see Qunito staying around for long considering he is going to be huge after Star Trek.

I can't even begin to tell you how glad I am that Zachary Quinto is easily moving on to something else and will have a grand career after Heroes gets canceled. He is easily the best part of Heroes...although even he in the most recent episodes has seemed to not have his heart in it and has recognized that the series has turned to garbage.

I'd heard a few weeks ago that NBC has already renewed the series for next season. What I will probably do in the fall is watch the season premiere and perhaps the second episode, but if at that point it hasn't shown any improvement, I will stop watching. Unless, of course, the season finale is so shitastic on Monday that it turns me off for good.

Oh yeah, and I wouldn't mind seeing Mohinder die either. He used to be one of my favorite characters, but now he's basically a hideously bland turd. :x

Me too.

Also, the whole Micah watching Sylar thing... I don't get how anyone can say he was shocked to see Sylar morph? I mean, no offense, but did you actually watch and pay attention to that scene? Or has your jaded view of the show made you turn your brain off while watching it? If anything, Micah was more in shock that this serial killer Sylar was having the conversation he was having while morphed into his mother, not because of the actual morphing. That's just reaching for things to nitpick anymore.

Rutabaga
Apr 23rd, 2009, 07:43:34 AM
I fully and freely admit that I'm nitpicking the show because I'm so jaded and I'm not paying 100% attention to it at times. After thinking about it for a few days, I could see how it could be explained, but at the moment it just struck me as odd. It just seemed like more of the sloppy writing that's overtaken the show recently.

Well, the last three episodes were average. But there was a run of about three or four episodes right before that, that I felt were outstanding. Still, I think there was some bad management decisions that are more or less being fixed and by next season, things will be alright.

I agree with that. The last few episodes have been odd (especially with Sylar going all 'psycho' on us) and a little weak, but they haven't been terrible. The episodes before the whole Coyote Sands storyline were excellent -- some of the best in recent memory.

Something tells me that a few people are going to die. Nathan is a good bet but I'm leaning more towards Peter. Since he's had his power limited, he's not that exciting of a character. I loved how he was Sylar's mirror, now he's just... essentially... Nathan. Mohinder might go because he's not that important to the story anymore... Matt won't die because he's the only one who can draw the future, Claire can't die and Hiro is one of the best characters in the series (thus Ando stays).

Anybody see the finale? I have to say it was bad as I thought it be. Really, they didn't kill Nathan since Matt mind wiped Sylar and he is Nathan now. Most of the episode was bad. They didn't even show the big fight that was hinted at we got nothing there but a door shaking and a bunch of blue lights. I don't have much hope for next season.

It was bad. More sloppiness and disappointment. The hallmark of a successful season finale is that when the words "to be continued" come on the screen, you think, wow, I can't wait until next season to see how this is resolved! When those words came up on Monday night, my immediate response was, who cares? Right now, I'm doubting I'll be back in the fall. The glory days of this show are long over.

Just out of curiosity, I went and checked the forums at Television Without Pity, and a lot of people feel like I do. They also pointed out that the show has had 3 season finales now, and in all 3 of them, Nathan has died, or at least been seriously injured. So they're bemoaning the lack of originality, and they're also all bitching about Claire's blood being able to heal Nathan but no one on the show mentioned it. Plus they're also pissed off about the major fight taking place off-screen. So overall people weren't overly impressed, unfortunately. I think there will be no surprise when season 4 premieres and the ratings slide even further.

RIP, Heroes...in your glory days, you were a great show. :cry

I don't see it surviving after next seasons. Its ratings are getting worse and 24 right now is killing it in that Time slot.
