Yes, you read that right! A huge robotic spider was found sleeping on the side of the Concourse House outside Lime Street Station in Liverpool City Centre. It's part of the ongoing festivities during Liverpool's 2008 Capital of Culture events. The spider appeared the other day on the side of the building overlooking the entrance to the train station. Seemingly asleep at the moment, the spider was removed form the building and taken by flatbed under the supervision of police and scientists to a secure testing area (read: public place) at Liverpool's Albert Dock waterfront.

I'm in work at the moment, right on the Albert Dock and my back is to the windows that look across the quay to the main road. All of a sudden, loads of people rushed to the windows. I scooted over to have a gander. Then I saw this massive golden spider being moved on a flatbed across the bridge over to the dock grounds, and it's been placed just outside our building to the side that leads to the carparks. Apparently the 'scientists' are going to examine it this afternoon and tomorrow morning, at which time it will 'wake up' and start walking around the city centre. I heard it's off on it's tour around 11:30am - I hope thats when my lunch is because I HAVE to check it out!
It's made by the same artists who had a mechanical elephant walk around London a while back. I think this spider is ten times cooler than the elephant. It looks so awesome! Can't wait to see it move. The council will be diverting raffic so it can use the roads, allowing people to get a good look at it over the weekend as it roams free around the city. And I have the weekend off so I'll be all over this!
Mind you, I might just stay indoors if there's a bug going 'round. (Ba-dum bum-tsh! :p)
