Anyone working on anything exciting? :)

I am trying to re-tool some of the stuff I came up with for the World of Darkness here into the plot for a vampire novel. Also juggling around some ideas for a fantasy story.

I'm working on a noir, cyberpunk, splatter space opera.

I had lost heart in it. Then I had my friend read it who's opinion I trust greatly. He provided some great critiques and, surprisingly, said he really liked the idea and the style and the characters... always good.

We'll see what happens :( I'm so busy with other things (code).

I'm 'working' on the novel I started for nanowrimo last year. I think I wrote one sentence for it this entire summer. Ah well. Hope springs eternal.

Its a medieval/fantasy/werewolf/political dramedy. No, I have no idea what it is, except that its unfinished. ^_^;

I'm researching local folklore for a book of fairy stories that I want to write for children... since I can't seem to find anything decent for Nya that deals with this kind of thing (they're either too grown-up for her, or too short, which is no fun). Whether I'll ever actually write the thing, I dunno, but researching it is fun anyway.

Research is definitely half the fun :D

For instance, I have been reading about the real-life lunatic asylum one of my vampire characters was committed to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colney_Hatch_Lunatic_Asylum

The other week I was thinking about a new writing project – mulling over ideas, trying to come up with something. But instead, I’ve decided to revisit one of several unfinished (read: barely started) pieces. But out of the three I have selected, I have decided to work on a science fiction piece I started in my last semester of university.

1: Sol 4

The first manned-mission to Mars approaches the red planet but the crew are awaken from stasis and greeted by chaos. The ships sensors are inoperable, their trajectory is misaligned (they are in danger of overshooting their destination by several thousand kilometres) and the ship’s rotation is preventing them from viewing Mars through the windows. The Commander and one other crewman take a spacewalk around the outside of the hull to ascertain the damage caused by a power surge from an unknown, external source that fried most of the computer circuits. As they investigate, the two seem drawn towards the ships horizon, obscuring the faint orange glow from the obscured Mars. They work their way towards the apex of the hulls curve, checking instruments as they go. When the finally reach the apex of the ships curve, they stare in bewilderment at a Mars they do not fully recognise. Though it is indeed mars, it is no longer just the red planet. The Valles Marineris – the larges canyon system in the solar system – is surrounded by encroaching patches of varying shades of green and yellow, while the canyon itself has a dark blue tone to it.

Since they left Earth and entered stasis, something strange has occurred, causing a dramatic climatic change on Mars. The dark blue valley, though unconfirmed, is undoubtedly water, while the encroaching yellow and green can only be explained as vegetation.

Now, having lost contact with NASA, the brave explorers are posed with questions; Why can’t they contact NASA? What was the source of the energy burst that caused the systems malfunction? Why are they off course? And what is happening to Mars?

NOTE: That’s only the situation at the start. They will be making planet fall and setting up an outpost, exploring etc. It won’t just be on the shuttle. I’m still formulating ideas as to the hows and the whys.
