Wednesday proved to be a very eventful day to say the least. Of course there was the normal waking up a little late, but I suppose that's to be expected. I saw my last day at my Mom's place as a rather easy experience, without surprises or any of the like. My little sister Ari and I went out riding, which was wonderful since I'd not been on a horse for at least almost two years (I ride with an Aussie rig Mark; always have, always will).
After returning the horses to the pasture, Ari and I went out to the high school to pick up the remainder of the food from the wedding that'd been stored there.
And on our way back!
On our left are alfafa pastures, and on our right are alfafa pastures. Both sides are lined with irrigation ditches along the road, but what should wobbles his way across the street but a fawn! I'm talking damn near newborn, more than likely born that morning or just the day before. Ari is driving, and she slows down as we both 'aaawwww' and 'what the heck is he out of hiding for?!". Something like this isn't normal since the mother would make sure that her baby stays put while she's off tending to her own affairs, but here this little guy was stumbling across the road.
Of course that meant that we had to stop and see what the heck was up. No doe in sight whatsoever, so Ari parks the car on the dirt shoulder as I climb out. The poor guy was so out of it, but that didn't stop him from bumbling his way through the sagebrush, through the irrigation ditch and on to the other side to lie down. He was so tired that he just plopped down to rest.
Now, the irrigation ditches were full of cool and refreshing water, and I was waist deep in the sagebrush, using them as handholds to keep from slipping into the water. Kind of odd, since I'm allergic to sage. Ugh.
Two seconds of thought was all it took for me to just take one step down into the water, then another. Standing up to my knees in running water, I reached out and picked the little guy up.
It was tricky getting back up, but with Ari's help I made it with fawn in arm, and we scrambled back into the car and sped home.
So, without further ado, I want to introduce you all to Smalls.

He was pretty exhausted after the car ride, and settled for my lap:

after which of course we had to show off his fawn spots
