According to the Terminator timeline Skynet loses and in an attempt to alter time it sends the machine back in time to alter the futre/present. So if Judgement Day is inevitable maybe the downfall of Skynet is as well.

Too flashy...?
No way, this looks to have the perfect amount of explosions and machines. The only problem is that Bale screams "Batman" with his voice now and makes you wonder when the Bat-pod will show up. Pity, I'm keen for this one to not suck and see some warfare
Edit : Reminds me strongly of Mad Max 2. And THAT'S definantly not a bad thing, Mad Max 2 is one of the best post nuclear movies.

Trailer looks great. Marketing has mislead or disappointed me so many times though, I will temper my expectations.
One question. Is not post judgement day supposed to be nuclear winter with 24/7 darkness? Many of the scenes in the trailer is in broad daylight.

This isn't his mother's post apocalyptic senario.
;)
I am agreeable with the idea that since both sides started sending people into the past, what actually happens in the 'future' will most likely be different than what was described. My questions are: in this timeline does Terminator 3 happen? In the TV show it doesn't. And is that John's uncle's girlfriend or am I just seeing things?

Well in the TV show there is still a day and night shift but the resistance only fights after dark since they try to avoid fighting against the machines in broad daylight. This is one of the reasons why I think this all looks a little bit too flashy to me but I think flashy might be the wrong vocabulary.
I kind of dislike the Motorbike Terminators since they do not reflect my perception of skynets answer to everything: All the other terminators and machines never gave me the impression that they needed to be fast infact all the terminators move like they have all the time in the world since nobody is going to kill them anyway. Even if they run they look like they can do this for hours without a break.
That is why I feel that those motorbike-machines are just in there as a vehicle for a highvelocity chase for the sake of having one in the movie.

Regardless, it's unnacceptable to speak to someone like that. He might as well be talking to a dog and he's lucky the only reason he can get away with talking to people like that is because he knows it's his pretty face that has to be in front of the camera and it cannot be messed up. Otherwise in the normal world he'd have been decked by someone about ten seconds into that little tirade.

I understand where you're coming from - I would feel absolutely horrified if someone spoke to me like that - but then again I've never been in a line of work where so much was riding on me being able to deliver results on what I imagine to be an incredibly rigid schedule. Time and money are presumably be tightly budgeted, where any fuck-ups (especially those which could have been easily avoided) are causes of just more stress. Not to mention that if you've really emotionally invested yourself in a scene only to have someone wander in and ruin it mid-take, it must be frustrating as hell. Both men could have been more professional, but all it took was for the DP to do his job right and Bale wouldn't have had issue in the first place.

My point was it happens all the time in this country. I had a boss who did to me when I screwed up and I sure didn't hate him for it. He was an ex marine so I kind of expected it.
Droo
Feb 7th, 2009, 09:58:15 AM
I think that is a question of what standards you are personally willing to accept. In this country, employers simply cannot talk to any member of their workforce in such a way without expecting the union and God knows what else to come crashing down upon them. It is not a civilised way to talk to anyone and frankly, I don't see any reason why one should expect an ex-marine to behave like an animal. It's quite an offensive stereotype. If anything, one should expect a marine to have qualities such as discipline, efficiency, and professionalism in the workplace.

I don't know but from my experience it happens a lot in this country. A lot of bosses treat their employees like crap.

I dont' think that's true. Maybe that's your personal experience, but I don't think its the norm for people to have their bosses curse them out.
And I do think there's a difference between using profanity when speaking to someone, and swearing at them. In my husband's line of work most people swear like sailors, but I think its rare for there to be actual tirades.

In this country though, bosses like that would fire you if you do respond. So you have a choice either quit or take it. Honestly enough with this bale stuff we are hijacking this thread by keeping talking about that and the cruel bosses. Well at least I won't keep talking about it.

So the movie is here...since I'm still on vacation and will probably see the Night at the Museum sequel with my father on Sunday, I decided to see Terminator Salvation today on its opening day. So I guess I get to be the first one to voice an opinion about it.
If it didn't have the word "Terminator" in the title and Christian Bale as star, it would just be another average noisy sometimes not totally comprehensible sci-fi action movie. It's not a disaster, but it's just not very good either.
I love the first 2 Terminator movies and have seen them multiple times. (Never bothered with the third because I felt the story was completely told in the first two.) What made the first 2 work for me so well was the human element...you had human characters that you cared about. In the first one, you cared about Sarah and Kyle. In the second one, you cared about Sarah, John, and Miles Dyson, plus for extra-added measure you cared for the T-800 sent back to protect John. But in this current movie, there was not a single character I cared about. Not even John Connor. And when you have a movie that's about humans vs. machines and you don't really care about the humans...well, that creates a problem.
The action sequences, although competently done, aren't anything new or exciting. They look just like the cookie-cutter stuff you see in movies of this type.
This is a minor thing, but especially since I've seen the first 2 movies a billion times, I immediately caught that they changed the taped message that you see Sarah recording at the end of T1, suddenly she's given a whole lot more information to John, like the fact that Kyle would be a teenager when he first met him. Like I said, minor, but it still pissed me off.
Overall I really can't recommend it. But people are going to still go see it in droves, that's for sure...the first show this afternoon had a surprisingly large crowd. And I'll be curious to hear what everyone here thought...am I just a grump, or will others feel the same?

What Rutabaga says about the human element, that's not only my concern for this movie, but a pet peeve for the high budget action genre overall. Nowadays, it is all about eye candy (explosions and cgi), ridiculously unrealistic action sequences, speculative plot and macho stereotypes about being as badass as possible with very shallow plot and character interaction. Even some of the movies most people consider very good in these forums are kinda "mneh" for me, because of how predictable and formulaic they are. It's like you seen the same damn movie 100 times before.
I kinda tolerate it with Transformers franchise, because it is so ridiculously over the top, with absolutely stunning visual effects and sound editing, and the element of humour is there always to remind you're not supposed to take it seriously. It IS entertaining. I mean, as far as giant robots that transforms to cars and various cool vehicles based on a chessy 80's gimmick show, it is about as good as you can expect it to be.
But Terminator T1 & T2 are action masterpieces, among the best in the genre. They are timeless classics, with high suspense, mind boggling plot, and great character interaction, impressing on every level. They set a gold standard. So when that standard is not sustained, that is disappointing.

That is all. It was there, and I saw it. Then it was over. For two hours I was seeing something, and it moved and was shiny, so I kept watching. But then it ended, and I returned to a far more interesting thing - my own life.
I do belive I cared more about the level of salt on my popcorn more than I cared about any character in this movie.
But, holy crap, that guy was a dead-ringer for Arnold.

But, holy crap, that guy was a dead-ringer for Arnold.
If you're talking about the Arnold "cameo," it's apparently digital trickery, from what I understand. I figured as much, because it looked exactly like Arnold did in the first one, and while he's still muscular nowadays, he's not that bulky anymore. Plus I think that if he had actually taken the time to film the scenes, a lot of people here in California would have been quite angry since the state is on the verge of declaring bankruptcy :\.
And Yog, I agree with what you said about Transformers. While the first movie is admittedly not at all what I'd call "great cinema," I still loved it because of the cheeky humor, energy, visuals and sound. And I'm really, really looking forward to seeing the sequel.
Humor and energy were 2 things that were desperately missing from Terminator Salvation :\.

From the trailer my expectations were very high. Then I kept hearing how badly this movie sucked. How horrible it was even compared to Terminator 3.(which I didn't really like )
So my expectations dropped significantly and when I saw it last night. I thought it was good. I really enjoyed it. Some of the scenes required a little movie suspension of belief but common its a movie. It was better then the 3rd for me by far.
I liked how there were references to the guns and roses song done in terminator 2 and John connor doin his hacking thing again. Overall great action movie. The only thing that bothered me is Bale seems to have carried over his throat/growl talking from batman.

I liked it but I had a lot of trouble with the beginning of the movie. The pure amount of gasoline and ammunition that was wasted in the first 20 minutes did not really give me the feeling that this was a post apocalyptic war. Maybe it is too early in the war to hide in tunnels but this felt kind of wrong.
My other problem was that Skynet had a face and a voice in this movie. Explaining its evil plot like a comic book villain was kind of stupid because it took away a lot of the mystery of the selfaware machine.
I really loved Sam Worthington's performance: He was the heart and soul of this movie.
I was happy and disappointed at the same time that the solution of this movie did not stick to a rumor on the net where it is said that in one of the later drafts for this movie Connor dies but his face and skin is transplanted on Marcus so that the resistance keeps their Messia while infact John Connor died without being the great commander his mother thought he would be.

Liked it.
Wish McG could film drama a bit better, there were great moments between the actors that were glossed over and lost in favor of explosions. But the explosions did rock, the machines were freaking cool and I like the attention to several details I found interesting. (So that's how he got the scar.)
And the factory... ahhh the factory. I've been waiting to see that factory since I read a rumor in a mag in 1990 about them showing the T-800's on the assembly line.
Indeed, I did like it. The story held up, however, it somehow never did make me squirm in my seat not wanting to watch, and not able to look away. I think what's missing is the intense tension from the first two. It's hard to create and blend it well with action.
It was also missing intense memorable music. There was this mechanical driving heart pounding musical scores in the 1st two that are absent, other than homages to T2.
Another problem: no dogs. Not even one german sheperd??? Come on... just one! Just one!!! :(
In summary: too much, too rushed. Glad I had really low expectations. I'll probably buy it and see it again in the movie pub. Don't feel I wasted my money, but yeah... Cameron is a good story teller when he wants to be. I think I need to watch some classic James Cameron now, Aliens, Terminator, Terminator 2, and the Abyss.
and final thought - after two years of studying screen writing I can't stand to have more than 3 or 4 sentences together in anything.
