232 years ago, John Adams wrote this:


The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.

He was off by two days (the declaration was signed the 2nd of July, but approved by Congress 2 days later). Yet he was right on the money about the importance and how celebrated this day would be.

So this is what you do while I sleep o_O

We celebrated the day by going to a carshow over in Gulfport in the morning hours, but as I had been at work all night, I ended up sleeping upon arriving at home instead of going to see the fireworks. Believe me though, if I didn't have to go into work at 4am this morning, I would have gone though, dontcha know.

I laughed at the promotion this one old resturant was giving off by having a few people dress up as privateers comissioned to raid British shipping, which aside from the few frigates we had, was basically our only impact against the British navy during the war.

I had fun! We had a BBQ at my friend's place that had a fire pit! :D Since it was actually chilly here in July ( a phenomenon that is unheard of in Chicago!) that the fire felt soooo good! Then we saw some fireworks in a parking lot that had a great view of them :)
