Its been a sad couple of days here in the ol' home town. We lost 2 boys (one 17 and the other 16, I believe) to a deadly drug/liquoir induced single car accident early Sunday morning. The boy driving was going in excess of 100 mph and wrapped the car around a pole right in front of the hospital (there were 5 boys in the car). While I mourn both deaths, the one that really gets me is Noah Saffelder. I had just saw him Friday afternoon and he hung out of the passenger side of his friends window at the gas station and yelled "Hi, Miss Rebecca!" Two years ago, he lost his older sister to a car wreck (nothing illegal) and now hes gone, too. I cant begin to imagine what his parents are going through having lost both of thier children. My heart literally aches for them.

In just a matter of weeks I will be able to book the flights for my trip to the US next year. WOAH.

edit: Some of these flight times are hilariously awful: "Duration: 25hr 40min" uuuuugh. Also, the variety of places that flights from Newcastle to Asheville seem to stop at is mind-boggling. So far I have seen flights that go via London, Paris, Amsterdam, New Jersey and even Atlanta (how does that make any sense?!) o_O ...not all of those on the same flight, obvious. Usually it's just 2 stops.

^Das, for my flight to Alabama, I stop in Atlanta for like 4 hours. Then travel back in time once I cross the state line (Leave at 12:30-ish, arrive at nearly the same time in Birmingham). Last year I had stops in Dallas and Chicago so I was flying home for the entire day almost. :x



I wish I didnt have to train tomorrow morning. Especially since this kids "nickname" at school is Seabiscuit >_<

Sadly, given that there is a minimum of two layovers, I can't sleep the whole time... I guess the cross-Atlantic flight will be a good time to snooze, though I will probably be jittery as hell from trying to find my way around airports, especially if they are airports in Paris or Amsterdam (what a travesty to visit Amsterdam and be confined to the airport! >_<)

My father, whom I've seen about a total of 3 times in the last 16 years or so and whom I have had a bit of a hit and miss relationship with for most of that time*, is now showing signs of later stage dementia related to Alzheimer's and has come, along with his wife, to live with my family and I in the US.

It's been going a bit better than I had hoped, but he still isn't talking a great deal, his pride and a bit of fear of losing independence** still overlaying onto his emotions, clouding discussion.
