I just accepted an engineering internship in LA with EA!

There's nothing better than spending your summer making video games with really, really talented people :)

EA is pretty big: In which department/part will you end up? EA Pacific or something like that?

There is no more EA Pacific. It got merged into the EALA (EA LA) studio.

They have a lot of projects, I won't know what I'll be working on until I get there.

That's pretty awesome man. What role are you going to be thrown into or is it a general internship?

Khendons' role will be running to get coffee for his higher-ups ;) j/k

Congrats. You'll have to keep us all updated on how things go. :)

Danke!

Well, if I'm just running to get coffee, they're paying me waaaaaaay too much.

But, don't tell them that.

I'll be an "engineering intern." Which means I'll be mentored by one of their software engineers on a project. I talked to one of the technical directors, and he said the way it usually works is: you do a one week project, then a two week project, then a one month project, etc. So, I'll be writing code that is actually used in the game.

I'm going to say that there's a high probability, based on my skills and interviews, that I'll be doing tools development. Which is exactly where I want to be ;) That's the road to getting to design engine architecture.

Can't wait to find out what I get to work on :)

OK since EA LA is doing C&C, Red Alert or Medal of Honor titles.

They have got 2 anounced titles in the pipeline right now: Red Alert 3 and Tiberium.

There might be a third unanounced title but I found nothing on the net. I always liked the C&C franchise and its spin-offs so working on them could be funny.
And if you end up in the production of an unanounced MOH game this could be super cool.

I can't really talk about what I know or don't know :) I'm not under NDA yet; but, I'll leave the content of my interviews off the web.

Regardless: Whatever project I work on, it'll be awesome. All of EALA's projects seem to be wonderful.

Wow congratulations!!! :D What a great/fantastic/super opportunity! And you get paid for it. That's wonderful. Don't let on that you'd do it for free. ;) Well, if you would do it for free.

:) Danke.

Yeah, I'd probably do it for free; but, the whole software industry has a shortage of talent... so, they're all willing to pay through the nose for even interns. It's wonderful :)

Yay LA! .. kinda. Grats on your job! Do you already live out in my neck of the woods? (meaning So Cal) Or are you moving out here for this? Either way, nice to see that I am not the only person that lives out here.

Goodjob again on the internship.

:P I live in New Jersey, you punk!!! (See Location, underneath my avatar).

EA is flying me out to LA for the summer and flying me back when I'm all done :) I was just in LA a little while ago on Microsoft's dime, too (about 4 days worth of time).

I'm also hoping to be in France for a week, again on Microsoft's generosity. Depends how my game development team does in their Imagine Cup '08 competition.
