I mean like, a GOOD waste of time. It's educational, and entertaining. EDUTAINMENT. Yeah.

Main page says this: Trope refers to story elements or components which have been standardized through decades of use. I found it useful after reading through some of them and realizing I've applied a few of these to Felix, (I abused the hell out of the Alliterative Names one, giving all 3 of Felix's names the letter "F"), and thought that if anybody wanted to try and use these for some form of character creation/development (or just to laugh at), I'd post it up. Maybe it belongs better in General Discussion, but since I thought it might be useful as a tool for roleplayers, I went here with it. *shrug*

This sucked up a good hour of my time yesterday. I didn't even realise how long I'd been reading... I just kept page-hopping and finding more things I was curious about.

I have been steadily sacrificing more and more of my day to the site. I like it mostly because it puts a fairly smart label and definition on a lot of things I've never quite been able to explain to some people clearly.

Since I posted this, I've been finding tropes all over the place. A few I've noticed (for those interested):

Caresse is a Dragon Lady (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DragonLady) with the Most Common SuperPower (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MostCommonSuperPower)

Banner Laverick has a Secret Identity (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SecretIdentity) and is a Cute Bruiser (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CuteBruiser). She, along with Felix, is Something Person (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SomethingPerson), as well as Costume Copycats (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CostumeCopycat), due to their hero suits being recolors of other images. >.> Felix is the only character I've noticed so far who just blows the Alliterative Name (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AlliterativeName) thing to hell and back.

The setting more or less forces the Puberty Superpower (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PubertySuperpower) trope on the characters, unless you're getting your powers from non-mutantcy. Not sure we have any characters like that yet; I need to read more threads. Most characters out there Just Want To Be Normal (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/IJustWantToBeNormal), and all the Cullen's kids attend Superhero School (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SuperheroSchool). Again, it's just part of the setting.

Lastly, (this one I got a HUGE kick out of), the very nature of play-by-post roleplay is makes Talking A Free Action (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TalkingIsAFreeAction), as we regularly come across posts with piles of dialogue and minimal action. In calmer scenes this isn't an issue, but in big throwdowns this has happened more than once.

I could go on for another forever if I went into the current Star Wars stuff (and third forever digging through pre-reset Fans), but It's late.

EDIT: A few more.

Another universal trope: Nearly every character, has adopted a <a href="http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CodeName">Code Name</a>, which they use either in combat, or as their preferred name.

The Brotherhood NPCs Geryon, Tron, and Boomer can be considered either a <a href="http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PowerTrio">Power Trio</a> and/or a <a href="http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/QuirkyMinibossSquad">Quirky Miniboss Squad</a>.

Lastly, a few of our characters with sorrowful backstories or lives are <a href="http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheWoobie">Woobies</a>. Recent addition Taya Robbins fits this trope particularly well at the moment.
