Hey everyone, just letting you know my water has broken and that means the baby will be here... soonish.
Hey, I might have an April 1st baby!
Don't expect any more updates, but there might be a few before things get serious over here. Not much going on now except that I've been expecting to run late, not go early! So there's some running around (not literally) getting some stuff done/ready.
:)

Thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated. I am having the baby naturally at a birthing clinic nearby, and so... ^_^; Little nervous, little excited! And I'm supposed to be resting/sleeping now, so I think I'll get into bed and try to nap.

I'm so jealous. It must be neat to actually have the 'going into labor' experience. Mine were both inductions. :(

I was completely expecting to be LATE - my mom and all my sisters ran late so I wasn't expecting anything to start happening for like at least three more weeks. :p I'm 38 weeks and two days right now.
Contractions are starting, they're about 15 minutes apart and not bad. We'll certainly have a baby over here by sometime tomorrow!

Okay guys, we're finally home. Baby Owen David was born April 2nd at 4:47 am after, oh, 24-36 hours of labor (24 of active labor). We ended up at the hospital because his head was presenting incorrectly and had a forceps delivery because his heart rate was starting to drop with the contractions. If anyone wants more information than that, PM me. ;)
God really had his hand on us the whole time because there was also some issues with the placenta, which turned out fine, but could have catastrophic. Again, better suited to PM talk once I have time to write up the details. :p
He was 5 lbs, 12 oz, and 18 inches long. Pretty small little guy! We had to stay at the hospital for quite a few more days because he developed jaundice within the first 24 hours, which can be quite serious. But finally this morning his billirubin (spelling?) count was down and he's older so he was able to come out from under the phototherapy (I wish I'd gotten a picture! He looked like he was tanning).
We had to stay through a few more feedings because he'd been having a little trouble with breastfeeding and they wanted to make sure we'd be able to feed him properly once we got home. But we passed the feeding tests and now....
WE'RE HOME!
I think I have some pictures of him after he was first born.
Oh, and, I'm exhausted. :x BUT it was worth it.

Owen, while being checked out just after birth.
Prettier pictures will come eventually. I'm going to get something to eat before its time to feed him again. :) Thank you to all for all the prayers and thoughts, I don't think I could have done it without Help, if you know what I mean.

Awww... so sweet.... good to know that everything is okay :)
There's something funny about that picture of Ty holding Owen, what with "It's not the Jedi way" written just above him...hehehehe.... I doubt the Jedi council would have approved ;) :p
:hug glad you got through it okay. 24 hours of labor sounds like a hellish sort of experience to me. I was only in for 2, and towards the end of that I felt like dying so 24 hours of it...? Yikes... you've got my admiration...

Congratulations on the baby, and props on the lightsaber shirt. Very lovely pics. And Lil' Owen does seem to be winking at the camera. Already the photogenic child. My son kept wanting to moon the camera when we tried to get pictures of him. I'm so glad to hear that everything ended up well.
And note, try Spencer for a newborn green onesie that says "Mommy's Little Ewok" with a fitting picture of Wicket on it. Or a red one with "Daddy's Little Wookie" on it, with a nice pic of Chewie.
Now, if only they sold lightsaber rattles....

Just some updates on Owen - his billirubin count went up too high again, so we had to get the do-it-at-home-phototherapy lights. He wasn't too happy about that, and neither was I. :( Thankfully when we went back the next day for a follow up blood test, his count was down and we could discontinue the light therapy! Hooray!
Poor lil' guy is still a bit yellow in the face, but his color is still getting better. Now, if we'd just have a few more sunny days here...
And we went to the pediatrician last Monday, and he was back to his birth weight of 5 bls 12 oz already! We went back this past Monday and he'd gained more weight and was at 6 pounds even! Yay! Way to go Owen! :D
I've been worrying about him eating enough, so it was nice to find out he'd not starving to death while we both learn how the breastfeeding thing works. :p
And, today he had a bath.

Yeah. The Billi-Reuben count is an unusual rating and point system. Kinda like a several-point car inspection system, but for babies.
Jaundice can be such a pain, along with the blessings and curses of breastfeeding. Getting him to latch on can be a pain, along with the whole letdown process. And let's not talk about expressing, or the chapped nipples.
Glad to hear everything's steadily improving. You and your growing family will be in my prayers, Hollie. :)

OMG, congrats LD! That kitchen sink picture brings back some memories. I'm sorry you had such a long labor. All 3 of ours don't add up to 10 hours. In fact, our 2nd could have been born in the hospital parking lot if a friend hadn't of met us there and taken our son off our hands.
So, as you left the hospital, were you guys asking yourselves; "Holy crap, they're just letting us walk out of here with this kid?!"
Lilaena De'Ville
Apr 24th, 2008, 01:52:03 PM
:lol Yeah it was a little bizarre to finally be let go and on the way home. Plus the whole maternity ward is locked down like a prison and all the babies have lojack on them to keep them safe from baby-nappers, so to get to go out with a baby is unusual. :)
Getting home, too, was sort of unreal. Suddenly the responsibility hits you even more than it did after he was born... and Owen is so little. Makes me a little nervous, though I'm much better now than I was two weeks ago.

I'm so happy for you. It's been so long, I'd forgotten what those first few days with our son were like. Treasure every moment, before you know he'll be sitting on the couch watching The Simpsons Movie with his Dad. And when you see both of them laughing a little TOO hard at the Dare Contest between Homer and Bart, be afraid, be VERY afraid...

And are those books in the background copies of that "Wheel" series? The full name escapes me, considering I haven't read them. Just think I recognize the spines. And I think the Tor Fantasy Logo?
Now, if they were Necroscope books, I'd spy 'em a mile away and the Tor Horror logo....
Lilaena De'Ville
Apr 27th, 2008, 02:04:17 PM
Yeah :o those are the Wheel of Time books. Wanna know what I hate? Getting a series in paperback and then being so impatient for the new additions that you get them in hardcover when they come out, so that your book collection is all mismatched. :p
And he's wearing a little footed sleeper. It DOES look comfy, doesn't it!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v471/jainhollie/owen/week2032.jpg
The yellow hat really brings out the remaining jaundice in his face though :( AND that hat is already a little too small for him. He's only worn it once! Daddy got it for him while we were in the hospital along with an Oregon Ducks onsie (size 12 months). Newborn size hat. :p Daddy is silly. :love
