I finally rented it and I thought it was a good movie with some good acting in it, especially Bardem he was effectively creepy. I also liked Tommy Lee Jones and thought he was more deserving of some recognition. Now I do have issues with the movie. I didn't care for the ending, I just thought it ended too abruptly, I guess I also wished for some justice for the villain (but that is a personal satisfaction thing). I hate it when evil gets away, although I question if he could limping away from the scene of an accident. I think even the dumbest of cops could have spotted him. Maybe I would have to watch it again to get a better grasp of the ending but right now, I don't know.

I agree about the ending, I literally jumped when it went to black so abruptly. Overall a good movie, not necessarily my usual type of movie, but it was worth seeing.

Javier Bardem thoroughly, completely, and without a single doubt totally deserved the Oscar. One of the creepiest villains I've seen in years. :eek

fun intriguing movie... has sparked many a conversation around the screenwriter's table since it came out. :)

It's one of those movies I like to chew on again and again focusing on different angles everytime.

The film is pretty philisophical on how it treats religion - and yet it's pulp entertainment. It's too simplistic to just say Anton Chigurh did or did not win at the end or that it ended abruptly. Admittedly I was a bit perplexed on my first viewing, but reflection and discussion with other folks opened up a whole different way of looking at the film.

I think it's one of the strongest BP winners in years.

The point is, the movie is really about Tommy Lee Jones' sheriff.

I think.

:p

I sort of liked the ending, really, though I'd have to see it again to be able to articulate why. And I LOVED the fact that it all took place in 1980.

Well, that's not the point...but yes, Sheriff Bell was unquestionably the main character.

Well I admit I need to watch it again. Right now I am not sure if I would put it on that top 10 list I made of course I might change my mind after I watch it again.

To me, it was unquestionably one of the top 3 movies of the year. The other two movies are Diving Bell & The Butterfly (my favorite) and The There Will Be Blood. Those 3 movies were at an entirely different league than the rest of the field this year. That's how good they were. I believe CMJ and me agree on that, although, we have the top 3 at different order.

It is understandable that people are getting perplexed by the abrupt ending, I had the same reaction watching it the first time. But you know what, watching this movie over again, it just gets better and better for each time. It's masterclass cinematic brilliance.
