Oh yes, April 3rd I am flying out to the eternal city for a four day break. Where should I go, what should I do, who's jealous? :D

Wow! That's awesome!
Your mission is to break into the Vatican and recover any pagan artifacts they have stashed away for safe keeping and bring them to me..... >D

A common fallacy; the Vatican, as any good group of Christians, would have destroyed any pagan artifacts that they encountered.:shootinWouldn't want someone given a mission to infiltrate the place, past the crack Swiss Guards, and into the deepest bowels of the Vatican where booby traps and crocodile moats abound, along with pits with no bottoms, and all the other things whose main uses are to keep the trespassers out, would they?:angel

- Vatican City / Sistine Chapel / St Peter (climb the dome!)
- Colosseum
- Roman Forum / Palatine Hill
- Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps
- Piazza Navona (all the fountains!)
- The Pantheon
- The Catacombs
- Capitoline Museums
To name just a few.
The nice thing about Rome though, the entire city is like a giant museum. Just walking around and exploring can be an experience in itself. It is a beautiful city, and every street corner feels like it is two thousand years old.

I got a great guide book from my uncle. It has quite a few walking tour routes, which including stops off at most of the things you mentioned, Yog.

You'll have to let me know if you find any less obvious unique or interesting places to see while you are there, Dasq. I'll be visiting Rome with my girlfriend at the end of May.

Rome sounds wonderful, and I am jealous. Tell us once you're there if it's as good as they all make it out to be!

Wow - congrats and yeah, take a LOT of pictures! That's a place my hubby and I really want to go to, well, Italy anyway. And Greece. *daydreams*
You're going so soon! Was it spur of the moment, or we're just the last ones to know everything? :p

It's been in the works since my birthday. :)
Greece is one of my favorite places to visit, too. I haven't visited the mainland yet, but I've been to lots of the islands nearby.

I'd suggesting seeing if you can find the Mouth of Truth.
Oh, and have gelato. Lots and lots of gelato.

I adore gelato. There's a gelato shop or two in my city. Scrumptious stuff.

Have fun!
Yes, see if you can see the mouth of truth and re-enact the scene from Roman Holiday. :)

This is a good time to go, before the weather gets too muggy. I made the mistake of going during the Summer, during an unusual heat spell, that i hear was record-setting.
But Gelato is good always...

If you are intrested in art you should be checking out this church. The perspective roofpainting is incredible. The amount of work and time for calculating such a piece of art must have taken nearly forever at this period of time.
One masterpiece is Andrea Pozzo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrea_Pozzo)'s trompe l'œil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trompe_l%27%C5%93il) fresco spanning the nave ceiling (1685)[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sant%27Ignazio#_note-0). The lavish Baroque (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baroque) fresco of 17 m of diameter is devised to make an observer, standing on the spot marked by a golden disc set into the nave floor, will see a lofty vaulted cupola decorated by statues, while in fact the ceiling is hemi-cylindrical. Closer to the altar marks a second marker is ideal for viewing the false dome painted above the crossing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossing_%28architecture%29). It is said that the neighbors of Sant'Ignazio didn't want a rather large dome blocking their sun, and therefore a pictorial illusion was provided.

Oh, I'll write that to go along with the pictures, definitely. Right now, though, my brain is total mush... our original flight home got cancelled, so we ended up having to get up at 5am, to hop on a flight to London Gatwick, and then sit around in the terminal for another few hours before flying to Newcastle. :x
