I swear I'm not one of those parents that endlessly regale people with stories of their children's doings, but this was just too funny.

So my... boyfriend's son is going through this stage where he's really, really interested in money. We've been sitting down and explaining stuff to him, and took him to the bank to open a savings account and ask questions. We didn't realize how much he was absorbing until today.

We were getting smoked ono wraps at the fish stand outside the mall today, and as we were paying we heard him talking to one of the friendly homeless guys that's always there.

Alex: How come you sleep on the sidewalk? Isn't it rough?
Man: I sleep here 'cause I don't have a house.
Alex: How come you don't have a house?
Man: Can't afford one.
Alex: Where do you work?
Man: I don't got a job.
Alex: Why don't you get a job?
Man: Don't want one.
Alex: ... but if you got a job you could have money and get an apartment and a bed and then you could open a savings acount and get interest and invest wisely so that when you get older you can quit your job early 'cause your money will work for you.
Man: You're a pretty smart kid.
Alex: Thanks. I read The Journal.

It took all our concentration not to bust out laughing on the spot. :lol

LMAO!!!

I have something about money, too...

My 5-year-old daughter plays Monopoly for the first time in her life and after I'm done explaining the basics to the other 3 people in the game (who hadn't ever played before too) we start playing.

So after a couple of rounds I have two streets of one color and she just hit the third one. And since I'm a really mean mommy sometimes, and this is Monopoly and I enjoy teasing her...

Me: You know, you shouldn't buy this one because I already have the others.
Nya: *buys it*
Me: *sighs* Then I guess I'll just have to buy it from you later.
Nya: That's okay, mommy, you can have it now - if you pay me lots more money for it than I did.

I would say she's got a firm grasp of what the game is all about.... needless to say she won. Without cheating once. Without us cutting her some slack (we're all competitive gamers in our family, I guess).
