Okay so yesterday while I was at work it started snowing. Seeing that the sort of weather we've been enjoying over here recently was pretty much just as random (last weekend we had a nasty storm, a hailstorm and then more storm, and the week before that it was 15°C most of the time), this was hardly surprising.

What was surprising was the fact that the closer I got to home, the more snow I was driving on - and that's something I hate. Especially since we have serpentine roads and hills, and not all roads are getting serviced and cleared of snow during snowfall.... I've ended up sliding in too many ditches to be comfortable with driving in that sort of weather. But anyway, I figured I'd be safe taking the road the bus was taking, and ended up going down the only way where no one had been driving in a while.... nothing but trees, empty white road and a steep ravine to my left all the way down.... urgh... I was creeping along so it was taking forever....

Once I was down in the valley things weren't so bad and there was other traffic, but I passed seven traffic accidents on the way then ended up driving on a stretch of road that was fine... so I took out the camera and took some pictures.

Now that I looked at them on here, I decided it might be cool to take up "mobile photography" as a hobby.... for some reason the two most blurred pictures look really cool to me. Especially as the colors are kinda freaky.

Anyway, here are the pics of the Black Forest in snow....

You were taking pictures. While driving. In the snow??????????.

They are not pretty, you were damn lucky you didnt go off the road. Frankly there's enough stupid on the road, we dont need any more.

I was going to point that out to but thought naaaah, it's obvious and went with the point of the thread to see the pretty pictures :p

Yeah I know.... but I'm a damn good driver :p I might hate snow, but doesn't mean I can't drive in it.

Those pictures, especially the ones in motion, are gorgeous :)

If you don't already have them, have you thought of maybe getting snowchains at all?

I love the first set. Blurry snow looks pretty in a surreal kind of way.

that's not until the heavier snow comes and you really need to get up some nasty hill.... we just usually have winter tires. Fortunately we haven't needed snowchains for years now. There hasn't been enough snow for it. But yeah, we do all have snowchains in our cars, just in case.

The main problem in weather like this is people who don't have winter tires and who have no idea what to do if their wheels don't get any traction any more.... city slickers, pretty much :lol .... if you've lived out in the country and in those hills, you know how to handle your car in snow because there's just no way to get anywhere without it regardless of the circumstances and weather conditions. Hence I've only ever ended up in a ditch during the first year of holding a license.

Sorry but taking a picture without looking at the camera isn't multi-tasking in any way more than switching on the stereo or turning the volume up. At least not for me.

Ah, well that's good then.

I've always got snowcables in the trunk, regardless of where I am. I used to live in the Sierra Nevada high desert, so snow was something I dealt with every year. Funny thing about the folks in the Reno/Tahoe and Carson City areas, is that snow has become such the norm that it's seen more of as an annoyance than a hazard. Not that they disregard safety in any way, it's just that it's become such a normal yearly occurrence.

I suppose living up in the mountains does that to you, heh.

Think about what you just said and what you posted.

Good drivers do not do things like this because they understand how stupid it really is and will not contemplate it.

As I said before, it's akin to switching on the stereo or changing the volume. I'm not a race driver. I don't drive around at speeds that don't allow for a momentary split in my attention.

Aside from that, you've obviously never had a child in your car with you. Driving in a car with a child in any sort of weather might mean you have to be able to pay attention to all kinds of things at the same time as being a driver and driving responsibly. If I couldn't do that I could never drive anywhere with my daughter in the back. You'd be forced to do all kinds of things that would otherwise not be possible or not be advisable, just because you need to make sure you're not taking too great a risk. Like reaching back and taking the drinking straw out of a child's hand because she keeps sucking on it while driving on a road that's bumpy and there's a line of cars in front of you and a truck driver behind you who keeps tailgating you while the car in front of you is prone to braking suddenly which would mean at some point the child might end up with the straw stuck down her throat.... etc.... now add snow to the situation and you'd get something that's a lot riskier and "stupider" as my finger pressing a button for a second while my eyes never even leave the road. But call it stupid if you want.

A car is not a place to multi-task!!!!!!! :mad

:headbash you tooYou live in Chicago, there are bad accidents there. Almost every single accident is caused by inattentive driving, and doing something like talking on a cell phone is equal to driving drunk.

Mobile phone baby! And then if you can draw your attention away from my bum, you can take pictures!

That looks horribly dangerous. I would NOT drive through that, owing to the number of skidding accidents that occur.

I have never seen snow in real life, and I find those pictures so very pretty. ._.
