View Full Version : All I know is it's a sci-fi game where you have your own ship.

It's sorta similar to Eve Online from what I remember reading about it, but you can actually do more than fly around in your ship. You can trade and what not, be a mercenary, explore etc. It's definitely not X3 since I have X3: Reunion GOTY 2007 edition. I honestly can't remember if it was an MMO or just a single player. But with your ship you could basically do whatever you liked. I knew I should have gotten it when I first saw it. Looked all over the city centre and I just can't find it. If I saw the front cover and some screenshots I'd know it!
Anybody got literally any suggestions as to what this game might be? I neeeed it soooo badly! :p

My original thought is the game Freelancer (http://www.microsoft.com/games/freelancer/). But there are a lot of games like the one discribed.
Two other big ones I can think of are:
Tachyon: The Fringe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tachyon:_The_Fringe)
X-COM: Series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-COM_series)

It's definitely none of those ones, but thanks for the input mate. I'm pretty sure it was a bit grander than flying round in a small one-manned craft. I think you play the captain of a large ship.

Possibly the Escape Velocity games from Ambrosia?
Esape Velocity (http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/ev/)
Escape Velocity: Override (http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/evo/)
Escape Velocity: Nova (http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/evn/)

They don't look like the one either, s'Il. But again, thanks :)
It's quite frustrating that I can't find it in the shops since it's not that old and yet they still stock things like Thief 1 and Age of Empires which is deifnitely older than this.
I found Genesis Rising (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genesis_Rising:_The_Universal_Crusade) and it rang one or two bells, looks similar, but I could have swore the game I'm looking for was more along the lines of X3: Reunion and Freelancer and definitely not a RTS. If that is the game I saw them I'm very disappointed since it's supposed to be rubbish :(
But on that note it's lucky I never got it in the first place :-P But I'd rather it be something else and actually be good.

Umm, oh gosh, there was one game, I've forgotten the name, but I owned it, and it started you out with a single ship in space, but you could also have airships, naval ships, land units, basically anything anywhere.

As I'm aware, Starlancer is similar to Freelancer and tachyon: The Fringe isn't it?
I was reading up on Battlecruiser Millennium and the description matches what I understand about this mystery game quite well. I may check it out. Any comments on it? It is any good? Should I not bother with it and continue my search?

Turns out I still own the game I was thinking of. It's called Project Earth: Starmageddon.
