My team has been putting together a 2D game for the '08 Imagine Cup competition. We've been working pretty hard.

So, our project is due in on Friday.

We made a decision to finally name the team today and ended up with SITdown Games for reasons that are somewhat silly. Anyway, pretty graphic: http://www.roxxu.com/linkedimages/sitdown.jpg

The BIG Issue
We don't have a name for the game! We're dead. We've spent way too much creativity working on a billion things (mostly code).

The general idea of the game is that you're a mechanical whale that that fires a nano mixture to counteract nasty bubbles that are being spilled into the sea by factories (that are also spewing out black clouds). Your nanos clean the place (including the clouds if you aim right) with all sorts of pretty physics.

Additionally, you collect toxic barrels. If they touch the seafloor, plant life dies off until the sea can no longer sustain life and you lose the game.

When you collect enough toxic waste, you magically convert it into a windmill that shoots up and breaches the water. When you have a certain number of windmills, you win and the evil factories/plants are shut down.

Anyway.

We need a name!

HELP!

Well... here are my suggestions:

A Whale's Tale
Dawn of the Megaptera

They're not that innovative, but it's all my one-track mind could come up with. :)

"Your Competition Entry Has Been Updated!"

Splash! puts players’ strategy and timing to the test in an exciting, fast paced underwater game. Clean the ocean and replace antiquated, polluting power factories to claim victory and a coveted high score.

Designed with a unique underwater physics engine and throwback, hand drawn graphics, Splash! offers an environment of limitless fun. Irradiated fish provide thrilling power-ups and bonuses as toxic bubbles and barrels pour forth from underwater sewage ports.

A specially composed theme along with custom crafted sound effects compliment the feature rich, point driven experience.

The dilemma of non-renewable, unsustainable technologies and systems is poignantly presented by factories. Clouds of noxious fumes, polluting bubbles, and toxic barrels harm the environment and its denizens in the game world.

The player must take control of a mechanical whale, S.T.E.V.E., and its nano-launching cannon in an effort to clean the bubbles and poisonous clouds. Toxic barrels are recycled through the utilization of advanced technology into wind-based energy, a sustainable source of power.

The game’s exaggerated representation provides a comical, enjoyable look at a serious issue facing current and future generations. Additionally, it enforces the idea of technology as a means to solve problems.

Ultimately, Splash! conveys the importance of action and innovation when it comes to saving our planet and ensuring sustainability.

Darnit, I guess I'm too late to put in my submission for calling it Bloop (http://www.bloopwatch.org/thebloop.html). Oh well. From the screenshot, that look like a fun little game :D

You can download the installer from there. I'm not 100% certain how well it installs on a system that doesn't have .net or xna; but, give it a try. If you have issues, let me know and I'll guide you through the setup process.

We didn't have to submit a .msi; so, this is a "for people" copy. It's also a slightly older version (only something we would be able to notice).

Anyway, if we make it to round 2, there'll be some awesome modifications. We might do them anyway.

Enjoy!

Oh, this only runs on Windows, sorry.

We advanced to Round 2.

That means we're now only fighting against 160 teams for world domination. 6 teams move on to Round 3 from here.

We have 70 days to modify our game and make it the final version. So, what does that mean for us? We're adding a particle engine, we've added blooming (special FX), we're adding a spiffy new menu screen (see above), there'll be a second style of gameplay, several maps to choose from, more music and soundFX, and a level editor.

If we get all of that done, I can see us getting in the top 20, at least.
