Ok I'm not sure on the exact title of the upcoming second X-Files movie, but I came across some pictures of it on the internets.
Some spoilery news about the plot (though not too spoilery):
Apparently it will not feature the ongoing alien conspiracy that dragged through much of the TV series.
Also, David Duchovny is in it. So who knows how they're going to explain that because I was under the impression he'd been abducted by aliens. Maybe he was merely abducted by illegal aliens...
Pictures may be spoilery as well.
ok here they are :p

Apparently, the original creaters / writers of X-files are back, which is a good thing. And of course the original cast of both Agent Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, otherwise it just would not be X-files. I am sure they will have explaination for abductions and whatnot :)

Unless I'm missing something in the X-Files storyline, the end of the last episode of the TV series had Mulder and Scully on the run from the government following their escape from a military tribunal that had sentenced Mulder to death. IIRC, the last scene was of the two of them in a hotel room somewhere in the southwest US, and it essentially faded to black with a completely open ending.

Yes! That's right, Fig-man. I remember now. That is how the last scene played out.

That is sorta what I seem to remember as well. It's so long since I seen it though. I only saw it once when it ran in theaters.

I was under the impression this movie was going to be more like the one-shot episodes they had rather than follow the whole conspiracy theory/alien abduction storyline.

At the end of the series Mulder and Scully where indeed on the run from the goverment. So if there working for the fbi again they are going to have to explain how that happened.

This is very exciting. I'll definately catch this in the cinema, unless it gets completely panned, which is doubtful. In the meantime, at 64% off, this is looking very tempting. :D

Never watched the original TV show, so not overly fussed about the movie itself.
However, I am curious as to what type of boxoffice run it will have. The original film made approx. $84 million back in 1998 (domestic US) when the TV show was probably at it's height - that would probably translate close to $100 million in todays dollars.
Anyone want to wager what they think this film will make? I doubt it'll make as much this time - from what I understand the later seasons weren't as well received (though I think Duchovny wasn't in the later seasons was he?), plus the time factor of when the show was last on the air. Does anyone think these factors will hurt it?

The interest level must have dropped somewhat, I am sure. On the other hand, the ticket prices inflated quite a bit. I don't think it will make 100M, but we'll see I guess.

I really need to get the series on DVD. I only saw the early few seasons. Nothing like fueling my already oversized paranoia!

How can you even bring yourself to watch the X-Files? There's episodes in there that would have you institutionalised.

You're probably right. I seem to remember a few of the early ones being more than a bit creepy to me. My obsession may be a self destructive one. I'm not sure.
