I just word of something horrible. I can't believe it.
My mom's mom, my last grandparent, who is 88 went into the hospital yesterday. She is presently suffering from an antibiotic-resistant form of pneumonia. She's old, but she's survived a lot. I was/am planning to go see her this year in any event.
But something happened about 10 AM.. central time. I've never heard of such a thing. :cry She took a wrong step, and she hurt her foot. I mean, hurt her foot in a horrifying way... so bad I'm using spoiler tags
her foot separated from her leg.
They reattached it, and my aunt was there for the surgery. Before my aunt left for the night, her foot was pink again.
I just can't imagine the pain and the fear she's going through right now. I dunno she'll ever walk again.
I just found out a few minutes ago.
Please, just pray for her.

I'm so sorry, my great grandma died when I was like 5-6 and she was 94.
I hope everything goes well and she lives on for more years to come. Dear God, please answer to this innocent soul. Please let her walk independently and not need a wheelchair. Please respond kindly to this situation God, please.

I lost all of my grandparents and great grandparents at a young age so I hope for the best for you. I miss mine so much and hate seeing the elderly in pain. :(

She'll be in my thoughts, as will you and your family. I'm very sorry this has happened but I hope she has a swift recovery and a visit from you under happier circumstances.

Pics? or link to a medical reason this could happen?
Thank god they could reattach it, is it a permanent fix or is she not out of the clear?

I don't know, but I think it's permanent. The reattaching part, that is.

Spoke with my aunt for 20 minutes today. Seems it was a two part process, she hurt her foot a few days ago, and in the hospital walked on it again and.. well... anyway..
The good news is, she was wiggling her toes today, and the stubborn 100-pound ox that she is, she wanted to walk today, despite the part where they have to reinsert a bone(?) somewhere. She's not fully coherent, but painkillers are definitely understandable in this case.
Bad news is, with the massive infections, she may lose her leg. It's a watch and see thing for now.

Real sorry to hear about your grandma Qui :( - hope she pulls through.
My great-grandma had to have her leg amputated when I was a little kid - she was a tough old bird though , took it in her stride and was able to continue on quite well. Hopefully your grandma will come out of it all ok.

They can reattach it, reinstall a bone, but they may lose to an infection? Better the foot than the leg, but I would imagine she'll pull through so long as you guys can keep her in bed and on her meds.
I'm sorry she's not out of the clear yet, but have faith in science and our bodies resilience. Hopefully none of the doctors fail at life and she’ll be good as new.

Thanks everyone.
Just to give an update, while they still don't know about the leg, my grandmother is lucid and my aunt reports she's pretty much back to normal mentally. They are presently trying to secure a bed at an extended care.

Nother update....
Spoke with my uncle last night, and the orthopedic surgeon says she'll never be able to put weight on that leg again. The rehab doctor says the best she could possibly do is shift her weight from a chair to the bed, and it doesn't look like she'll end up with the strength for that. The plastic surgeon says her skin is too thin to do anything like grafts over the wound site, and the infections guy says there's not much they can do to clean up the infections in her leg.
So, they took her to extended care, and are setting up to get her into a hospice program to take care of her till the time comes. But she's on as many painkillers as she wants, because at this point, addiction is not an issue.

Although I am new to the site any information like that tampers with my heart because I know what it is like..My mother had a heart attack back in 2006 and it ripped me apart, anyway I do not wish harm on anyone or there family so I say many blessings upon your grandmother and may the creator watch over her and keep her near.
