Ok, so I'm working on a short film right now that is a comedy involving a group of middle aged women, say late 50's to early 70's in a small rural town, present day.

I've filmed 2 scenes and need to light a fire under me backside to finish it out.

One thing that helps me sink into a fictional world is music. A small sound track on my iPod does wonders for fueling me along my merry way.

I have no sound track in my head for this flick.

So if any of you have a suggestion for a campy, rockish, up tempo, fun music with a good beat, I'm all ears. Everything I currently have in my CD library doesn't gel with this story.

What style of music? I was gonna suggest the 'Time Being' cd by Buddy Rich, but I dunno if it's gonna fit.

Something that screams "Grandma's gonna knock you out!"

Any style really... I listen to just about everything except Death Metal, corporate pop, & pop country crap.

Possibly something along bluegrass lines might work for the ladies... but I don't know.

Try 'Come Pick Me Up', by Ryan Adams.

And, just because it's a gooder, 'You Don't Know How It Feels' by Tom Petty.

For some reason I am thinking of...

The Kinks - Waterloo Sunset (http://youtube.com/watch?v=5J3gX47rHGg)
Faces - Oo La La (http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZJam1LMoWs4)
The Stampeders - Sweet City Woman (http://youtube.com/watch?v=BGrRiYbPPoY)

Not sure why.

Maybe C'mon Come Over by Jaco Pastorius? Uptempo jazzy kinda thing.

I'm also thinking things by the Kinks, the Byrds, and old 60s pop minus the Beatles.

It would really help if you told up whats going on in those two scenes.

EDIT: You should also check out the Stax and Motown material from the 60s and early 70s. Also the Atlantic's Funk/Soul/R&B hits from the 70s. A good thing would be to look for the songs that Jerry Jemmott played during his Atlantic sessions during the period, that'd be a good place to start.

Oooo... nice suggestions everyone. Even the Barracuda fits. :D

I think I saw a Stax CD sitting around at the station. Was a thank you gift they were hyping during the last fund drive.

Give it a listen. May I ask whats going on during these scenes, I might be able to help you out a lot. I'm young but I live in that era:D

Date Night Montage - INT. LAURA's BATHROOM - Laura (late 50's) is getting ready for her big date with Walt.

Stooge Soup - INT. KITCHEN - stooge style bumbling in the kitchen gets a toxic cleaner in the soup

The Choke-n-Croak - INT. RESTURANT - Walt pops the big question to Laura then croaks

Life's a Drag - EXT. BOWLING ALLEY - Jake, Laura's son takes drastic measures to pull his mom out of her funk before he heads back to grad school

Big Phyl's Flashback- INT. DANCE HALL - A little bit of insight into her view of the world.

Bowler's Brawl - INT. BOWLING ALLEY - All HECK breaks loose.

I think that final scene, with absolute carnage in the bowling place would look great in slow motion with middle-aged people going at it to the sounds of The Beastie Boys 'Sabotage', just an idea. :)

Thee Michelle Gun Elephant could work, but they sing in Japanese. Might clash with the setting.

They have one song that I can't find on you tube called "Bowling machine". It would work PERFECTLY with the ending scene. Especially since there's no lyrics.

Not so much worried about clashing, just have been checking out all the tracks to listen to while I work on preproduction stuff. Music is a great motivator. :)

I've been working with a composer who is developing original music that will be in the finished product.
