View Full Version : Seeking approval for character's species

I've been thinking about this for awhile and after working out the details I've decided to bring my idea forth for scrutiny and criticism and hopefully approval.

I want to introduce this character into the SW universe as a species that is modified from the Pandaren race from the Warcraft universe, more information about them can be found here: http://www.wowwiki.com/Pandaren.

First off, the race won't be called Pandaren for the simple fact that those are the pictures I plan on using and I don't want to violate any rules or copyrights. I'm not sure what to call them yet, but I'll think of a name before I start RP'ing with him if this idea is accepted.

Secondly, their culture revolves will still revolve around drinking and what they would consider shamanistic abilities. In reality though, those abilities would be nothing more than a natural affinity to the Force that they have adapted to use to heal. For the most part they are a generally peaceful and loving race. They would rather sit down and drink and talk than fight, though like any race there are the few exemptions to the rule.

They live on a backwater planet that is on the same level, technologically speaking, with the rest of the galaxy, but they choose not to wander to far from home.

My plan for introducing them to the SW universe is to have some smugglers/poachers land on on their planet, hoping to find a new backwater planet to use as a base of operations and end up capturing Pong because they have never seen his race and think he is just a wild animal that they could sell for credits. Due to their speech being similar to the Wookies and Ewoks, no one will understand him at first and think he is only roaring or grunting.

Since I'm hoping for him to be a Jedi ultimately, I was thinking that a Jedi would be near during a public showing of Pong and sense what was going on beneath the surface and try to help him.

If anyone has any questions please post them and I'll do my best to answer them.

I'm just curious, but considering how different Ewoks' colors can be, and the fact that there are so many strange furry species on the forest moon of Endor, did you ever consider saying that that's where they came from? The shamanistic nature is something Ewoks have in common with your species idea, too. It seems like it wouldn't be too incredible to think that they come from the same planet.

Actually I did think of that and I even considered trying to place them as a hidden civilization of Wookies on Kashyyyk, but then I thought that with everyone constantly visiting the planets that it would be more than likely that the species would have been found out before now.

There are new species that are discovered in the here and now that weren't known before -- I think it would be very possible that there are species on some planets in the SW Uni that no-one has seen/discovered, no matter how busy the planet is. I mean, people aren't going to see ALL of the planet when they're there, are they? :\

Endor actually isn't as frequented as you'd think... chances are that if someone crashed there, they'd die there without anyone ever finding them. Check out the Ewok Adventure movies. You can watch them on YouTube in chunks.

There are already a number of ursine species in the EU (the Nelvaan for instance), so I'm quite happy for you to adapt the Pandaren into something new to RP with. Jeseth's suggestion of having them originate on Endor seems nifty too. :)

Well after looking into the Endor option, I decided that would be best. I'm not exactly sure about the location of most of the Ewok's tribes, but I'm think of having this species in a valley in the Northern Hemisphere. The mountains there could provide an excuse for them staying hidden for so long as well as what technology they have either a) built or b) since they are going to be from Endor I'm thinking that they could have gaurds patrolling thier borders and thus they came upon technology from the Republic and Empire due to crash landings.

Now would anyone be interested in helping me introduce this character to the Universe?

Yea, that sounds like a good idea, I'll help, too, Pong and Travis, you could post these in my RP, The Scpetar Entry. It would be great to witness that.
