I've been trying to lose weight and this is a fun type of exercise that I can get into and stay with. So I want to know which one is the overall favorite since I can't afford to get them all.

I usually go to the arcade for this, so I tend to like 4th mix, or Extreme. There's certain songs I like to bust my butt to, like Kick the Can, or Dream a Dream. I usually play at a steady Standard level on Extreme when I'm in the shape for it, or all the way up on maniac for 4th mix. I realised I was quite bent out of shape when I went to play a round on maniac recently, and it nearly killed me. I used to play for two or three hours almost straight, and then go for lunch.
And I recommend water. LOTS of water, especially when you get into higher and higher step levels. But really, Extreme is particularily good for beginner levels if you're just getting into it. Because the beginner really IS beginner. I just pray you got rhythm, girl. ;)

I've got SuperNova right now. Came in a kit with the pad. I have rythym. :P I'm able to play on basic and some songs I can do on hard. But since I hurt my ankle(well, my husband did, he put a chair down on my foot and when I pulled away I hit my ankle against the bed post) I've had to shut off the jump option. So that may account for the hard.

While it's not DDR, Kinetic (http://www.eyetoykinetic.com/) is a really good workout 'game' that has a lot of options as far as what sort of workout you want to do :)

I tried to get it but by the time I went to walmart it was gone! >.< Someone bought 30 of them! How selfish! >:( It came with an eyetoy too.
I have yet to play DDR in the arcade, but once I'm feeling better(I have a sore throat and other various symptoms I wont go into) Imma go play it in the mall nearby.

I agree with Ilias, that Extreme is one of the better versions... I worked at an arcade for a long time when I was in my teens, and I found that it was an excellent way to loose weight. There is a way to download an emulator and all the songs/steps to your PC, by the way. You wouldn't be able to actually play along though, but it's good practice for the arcade!
My favorite songs are .59, Captain Jack, Rhythm and the Police, and Gamelan de la Coupe... although, I'm not positive if they were all included with the console release of DDR EXTREME. You might want to check out http://www.ddrfreak.com/ and browse their song lists before you decide on a version. :)

Gamelan de Coupe is on SuperNova and is one of my favs. :D I went to try and buy Extreme and all, I mean ALL, of the used DDR's were GONE! >.< Dammit! So I gotta settle for SuperNova2 for now and order Extreme online and wait for it to arrive. But I can't order it til I can afford it. I sold some old DVDs and games and I just need to scrounge up $6 to get the new version.
