View Full Version : Are you a Pregnant Tummy Toucher?

You've probably heard the horror stories from pregnant women (if you've ever known any) about perfect strangers groping their bellies in the supermarket. Personally, I've only had two people other than my husband touch my baby bump so far, and I've known both of them so it was okay. :)
But... are YOU a baby bump toucher? Confess!

I confess. If one of my friends is pregnant, I'll see if I can feel the baby move, but only with their permission. It's a very neat feeling, and I've never had somebody touch my pregnant belly without my permission. Even Leten will make sure it's alright first.

Hells no. I won't even ASK. I won't even TOUCH someone unless I think it's ok or they say its ok. Even then, if they say it's ok and I don't feel right about it, then I won't. And this is a non-negotiable issue. :lol

Hell no! I personally wanted to kill each and every old woman who touched me when I was pregnant. My belly hurts when I'm pregnant! The stretching causes my skin to feel like the skin is one big wound and any sort of touching is like salt. HATE IT! SO of course I don't do it to others.

No... no thanks. I'm afraid of situations where I have to be gentle with people, and even more so afraid of situations where not being gentle can cause them harm... so being around a baby in any way, makes me really nervous.

Yeah, under the following conditions:
1) I know the lady.
2) They say "The baby's kicking!" and then either offer the opportunity to experience the up-and-coming new life, or just put the hand on the tummy. *shrug* Either way, doesn't bother me.

I think a few times, when I was little and being curious, I was tempted to reach up...but being kind of shy, I always asked..and was usually allowed to. :o
I have on a couple of occassions, later in life as well, when invited by female friends who were having their first child. Usually when the foetus starting becoming more active.
Not a fetish by any means. :D

^ That is so awesome. :D
I had creepy people touch my belly when I was pregnant. Very scarey actually, worthy of a movie. So I understand why some women would just as soon keep their bumps to themselves.
As for me, I worked on the gyn/ob unit for a long time, babies are kind of my thing, so if I'm asked I will. And... If I know you.. it's a given, and I'm a belly talker. I will always address the belly as a new and separate person. :lol
:D Babies rule..

It's something along the lines of, only if I know you very very well and I like you and am not freaked out by the pulsating tummy.
I've touched a couple of tummy's in the past, but they were extremely close friends/family while the little one was tumbling around. One tummy owner even reached out, grabbed my hand and put it there before I knew what she was doing. But I really don't have the urge to touch. I do however get transfixed at the pulsating abdomen and start staring at it when you can see them bouncing/pouncing around inside.
I start trying to imagine what that would feel like and then my thoughts just go down hill from there, let's just say I've seen far far too many scifi/horror flicks and am slightly scared to death by babies. They're cute and all, very adorable... (mostly.) I'm just very uncomfortable and scared of hurting them (so tiny and TINY) so I tense up and tend to start having mild panic attacks if someone shoves said child into my arms. Takes a while for me to relax around little ones. I have more fun with slightly older kids I can pick up and toss around until they vomit.

If it's just someone I know, and they ask, sure.
If it's someone I'm close with, then I'll ask them. I'm affectionate what can I say.
But I'm really waiting for someone to say they would even with perfect strangers. That's crossing a major weirdness line. :)

Yeah, I was kinda hoping we had at least one here on the boards. :D I have yet to encounter one in my every day life, thank God! Though I suppose as I get bigger and bigger they may start coming out of the woodwork! :uhoh
I bet there's at least one that posts here, they're just embarrassed to admit it now. :p Either that or geeks are just generally more polite and reluctant to invade other's personal space.

I'm surprised it hasn't happened to more of you than have come forward. I can understand not wanting to mention it, though..especially if you felt assaulted.
While milling around in slow-moving crowds at events, i've had people I don't know come up to me and hug me, wrap their arms around my shoulders from behind or while walking down a busy street ask me to pose for a photo.
Some other, stranger things...
Who knows what makes people tick?

I know starting about a month before I gave birth to my son, I had complete and utter strangers come up to me and just start talking to me, and most of them didn't seem to care that I was busy or had my arms full of bags and I just wanted to get home.

I had the same problem. Though when I was pregnant with my son and I lived in Florida where its FULL of old people, I had a heck of a lot more people just touching me. I think the population of the town I was in felt like they were the grandparents or something. o.O

I will admit though ;) , I have absent-mindedly made small-tallk to pregnant strangers... , something stupid along the lines of l"Not long now, huh?"" to a woman who is obviously very pregnant. Not the smartest thing to say if you wish to remain living. ;)
Carrying a small dog or walking a child also seems to get people to want to talk to you who would otherwise leave you be as well. :D
Hmmm, chainsaw.
I'm male though, so it's a different thing...just find it odd that people out of the blue will touch others without asking. Most guys I know don't really talk to each other, much less show any affection.. I do show affection willingly...maybe I'm giving off signs i'm not aware of. *shrug* . Then again i'm a bit clueless about people in general.:D
Enough of my yapping.

Not a smart thing to say period. Sometimes the woman may not even be pregnant! I had someone ask me how far along I was and I wasn't even pregnant. :( This was a month or two before I DID get pregnant with my daughter and by then I was wearing a girdle to suck it all in cuz I felt so self concious. When I found out I WAS pregnant I was like "Oh crap, now the baby is going to be born with a flat head".

It looks kind of cruel... and it is hard to sit back and let it happen, but there isn't much one can do.
For some reason, it reminds me of this young little girl who used to come over to my parents house from time to time. She used to wear bandages on her forehead and fingers to get sympathy. Seemed cute at the time, but it's kind of sad now that I think of it in hindsite. I know one of her relationships later in life was to an abuser. I will always remember that impish face. :(

I'm very ticklish! Ever laugh so hard that you swallow air and get hiccups? That's me in a button.
Tried watching Sesame Street recently. They made over Grover in a style more like Elmo, gone is the nappy fuzz of old, now replaced with the fibre-ey fur, and a brighter blue. Change was inevitable, I guess. Sigh. At least they realized the love that there is for the charactor and tried to give him his own segment.
The Dutch version of the show was a little different. A lot of segments showing kids randomly playing to encourage children to go do the same a bit more. And alot of the skits are absolutely nutty. Probably wouldn't fly here.

My sister pointed out the other day that sleeping with a heavily pregnant woman is kind of like having intercourse with two people at once, since you're basically ... knocking at the baby's gates, so to speak. :x
As for me, I don't like infants. If a woman were to forcefully grab my hand and make me touch her inflated womb, I would no doubt shriek and run around in circles until someone shot tranquilizers into the back of my head.
Slimy discolored umbilical cords ... -shudder-

Can't vote because none of those repsonses really apply to me. I won't touch a stranger's pregnant belly, I think that's rude. But I won't hesitate to touch a friend's or relative's if asked. I won't touch anyone's belly without asking. This can also be a cultural thing. I know my wife was stunned by how many of my relatives would come up to her and touch her belly. It was a riot when my aunt came up to her, touched her belly, and promptly told her she "knew" it was a boy. We Cubans can be a crazy lot.
Oh, and sex with a pregnant women can be hot. Especially when they're convined it can induce labor. ;)

I see the tummies and I want to rub them (like a buddha for good luck), but I'm always afraid I'll offend said mother, whether I know them or not. ^_^;
And what makes it even worse, is that currently, I am SURROUNDED by preggy tummies! It's like God is poking at me, giving me not-so-subtle hints. My sister-in-law, people at work, people on the boards (ok, I only know of Hollie, but she was one of my bride's maids, so I consider that close!), people from WoW (yes, I have a friend who's wife is preggers, and they live near me and they keep insisting they need a playmate for their little one, all eyes on me :x), and complete strangers (I can't go outside without noticing a pregnant woman... I mean, I'm sure they've always been there, but I'm suddenly noticing them).
And, of course, the more I see the preggy tummies, the more I want to rub them! But... it's like... off-limits... isn't it? O_o

MY gf often had dreams involving urination and whether she would get there on time. :D(Sorry dear, yes my lower lip is rather stretchy. No, I don't think it will cover my head.)
