Flickr increases image sizes?

I thought I should give you a heads up about Flickr. Somehow (I haven't looked into exactly why it happens) when you upload a picture to Flicker, the file size increases. It increased the size of my Avatar from 13kb to almost 26kb, and the size of my signature from 28kb to almost 37kb. The difference is marginal, but it matters.

I haven't had the experience with other image hosting services.
