I got stuck X-Mas shopping Sun. morning and then when I did get home our router was down so I couldn't even get online. I got stuck with all away teams in my football pool and ended up with 8 wins. So, I'm cranking this week's picks all at once from work.

Safety Anthony Smith not only thinks the Steelers have a chance Sunday to beat the undefeated New England Patriots, he guarantees it.

Smith, a hard-hitting free safety who replaced injured Ryan Clark as the starter midway through the season, said he's not worried about providing any motivation for the 12-0 Patriots.

"Now we have our swagger back on defense and we're playing great ball, and they're playing great on the offensive side, too," he said of the Steelers. "I think we have a real good chance to win the game and we will win the game."

Not only that, he said while New England's receiving corps of Randy Moss, Wes Welker and Donte' Stallworth is good, those three aren't as good as Cincinnati's T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Chad Johnson and Chris Henry.

"I think we were facing great receivers last week, too, and we shut them down," Smith said. "Those three guys, I don't think it gets much better than Cincinnati's corps of receivers. We've already seen the best."

Smith added a little more lumber to the fire when he said New England's receivers haven't been hit the way they will be hit Sunday.

"They said Baltimore was their most physical game, but I think we hit harder than Baltimore, so they haven't seen nothing like us yet.

"They should be worried about us. We never worry about receivers. We're the ones doing the hitting. They have to run routes. We're attacking them, they're not really attacking us."

Halfway across the Steelers locker room, defensive captain James Farrior practically let out a moan when he heard what Smith said.

"He has to keep his mouth shut," Farrior said.

Nice bit of work from a second-year free safety who's well known throughout Pittsburgh for his personal fouls. :lol

I think that is stupid talk. The Bengals WR's aren't that great either, IMO. The Rams WR's are better and that isn't say much. Chad Johnson has stunk the last two seasons. He is vastly overrated. Also I think guarenteeing wins is stupid unless you are Joe Namath.

Hence Farrior's comment. You definitely shouldn't be making those sorts of predictions your second year in the league. I don't think anyone will regard it as anything more than a joke, though.

Except for the Ravens, but it's not like they need an excuse to give the Steelers all they can muster.

And Chad Johnson has been in the top five in receiving yards most of this season and Houshmandzadeh is leading the league in catches. I wouldn't call them the best in the league, but they certainly belong among the elite squads with Moss/Welker, Fitzgerald/Boldin, and probably one or two others I'm not remembering off the top of my head.

I'm partial to Ward/Holmes, but then I'm biased. :)

He not only thinks Steelers will win, but he can guarantee it? You mean the way they lost vs the Jets and scored 3 points vs the Dolphins? :whaa

LOL I guess he forgot about those two games. Also, have to add in losing to the Broncos.

Jedi Master Carr, you didn't include a pick for New Orleans at Atlanta.

And, on the subject, the Saints have just placed Reggie Bush on injured reserve. So now they've lost him as well as Deuce McAllister for the season.

NE just pored it on in the second half. Man my Chiefs suck. The owner needs to fire the GM and Edwards the franchise needs a face lift.

Sorry about that, I know same thing happened to me a couple years back. I am on a roll in the league right now. I have won 8 straight games. And thanks Yog for beating Dizzy getting me second seed. Although, now you get me :p I have to say drafting had nothing to do with it. My top two picks aren't even starting. Half of my starting roster I got off the waiver wire.

Man the Falcolns are just plain screwed this season

I don't see Peterino going back to the NFL ever. Also I think this is another reason to stick with in the NFL ranks for coaches. 90% of college coaches fail in the NFL.
