I won't be able to watch the Indy-Atlanta game because Comcast, in their infinite wisdom, took the NFL Channel off the digital tiers and put it in a sports package that you have to pay an extra $5 a month to get. :shakefist

Colts have taken the lead but the Colts aren't the same teams as they were last year. There is no way they can beat the Pats in the playoffs. And I kind of think Jacksonville can beat them right now.

The Tampa Bay Defense is stepping up pretty well with Garcia being out of action, for the time being. Three recovered fumbles for one touchdown and two fieldgoals. Second quarter and the Bucs are up over the Redskins, 13-0.

Kale
Nov 25th, 2007, 02:09:31 PM
Wow, the Bengals are really whomping on the Titans. Tennessee's been in the red zone at least four times and come away with only two field goals. And Carson Palmer is carving up that Titans secondary.

Chad Johnson also celebrated a TD catch for the first time in a long while - he ran up to one of the network cameras and swiveled it around the sideline. One of the officials flagged him for unsportsmanlike conduct, which I thought was completely uncalled for. Chad has never had a malicious celebration in his career, and I don't see how hopping onto a camera is unsportsmanlike.

Hasn't really hurt his performance, though. Chad Johnson has three TD catches so far. Bengals lead 35-6 early in the fourth.

Other surprises: Rams lead the Seahawks 19-10 late in the third, the Vikings are up 27-10 on the Giants in the fourth. The Bills are also hanging in with the Jaguars, trailing only 19-14.

If either the Patriots win or the Bills lose this week, the Patriots will have clinched their division. Would've been earlier, but the Bills have actually been trying not to suck lately.

EDIT: Wow. Eli Manning has just thrown two TD passes on two consecutive drives... to Vikings. Not a good day for him. 41-10 Vikings.

EDIT 2: If the Browns hold on (leading 20-10 over the Texans) and the Titans don't stage some miraculous comeback, the Browns will move into the #6 position in the AFC. If you predicted at the beginning of the season that the Browns would be in the thick of the wild card hunt, you're a bald-faced liar.

The Bucs barely manage to beat the Redskins, when a endzone pass for Moss is intercepted by Kelly, with 24 seconds left on the clock. The Vikings beat the Giants as well.

Devin Hester has scored his ninth and tenth career return touchdowns today against the Broncos - a punt return and a kickoff return. Both were high, booming kicks to the middle of the field, and Hester just made the Broncos kick coverage look silly. Otherwise, the putrid Chicago offense has managed just six points, but that last return ties it.

EDIT: Well, Jay Cutler found the best possible way to respond. First offensive snap after the kickoff return, he throws sixty-eight yards downfield to Brandon Marshall for the score.

EDIT 2: We've got a game in Arizona. The 49ers just retook the lead on a 35-yard TD run by Frank Gore. It's 31-28 49ers, 1:11 left in the game with the Cardinal staking over at their own 15.

EDIT 3: And now we're in OT.

EDIT 4: HOLY COW! Bernard Berrian made a spectacular catch along the sideline in the endzone for the tying touchdown in Chicago on 4th down with 28 seconds left! He was stretched out full-length with his arms fully extended and still managed to put a foot and a knee down in-bounds to establish possession. For an offense that's played like crap most of the game, this was an absolutely incredible play. We may have another overtime game on our hands.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals hit a big 62-yard pass to set themselves up deep in the 49ers end and lined up for a short winning field goal, but they let the play clock run down and got the five-yard delay of game. AND THEN RACKERS MISSES THE TRY! 6:32 left in OT!

UPDATE: The 49ers couldn't do anything with their ensuing possession and punted it away, and the Cardinals committed a stupid block in the back on the return, pinning their offense inside their own 5. And on the next play, Kurt Warner dropped too deep and took too long to read his routes, and the 49ers bull-rushed him, stripped him, and recovered the fumble in the endzone for the winning touchdown. What a game for San Francisco!

Wow, it's tied 7-7 in Foxboro, and Tom Brady hasn't been on the field yet.

Come on, Eagles! Try an onside kick! Keep the Pats on the sideline!

EDIT: WOW! They did it! :D

Jedi Master Carr
Nov 25th, 2007, 08:14:16 PM
It didn't work though. It looks like they are trying to outscore them. Not sure how that is going to work if they can't stop Brady.

Kale
Nov 25th, 2007, 08:41:36 PM
Well, of course they need to stop Brady. It's not like they're not trying. And they managed to once - held them to a field goal after a 1st and goal. They'll need to stop him a few more times, but they just might do that. Question is, can they stop him before the end of the half?

(Edit: Well, the answer is no. The Eagles had better stop them on the first drive of the second half.)

I like how aggressively the Eagles are playing on offense. And even though they went three and out after the onside kick recovery, I like the call - they still spent that much time keeping the Patriots offense on the sidelines and forced the Patriots defense to make another stop. Andy Reid must have done a great job of pumping up his team for this matchup. There's still a whole lot of football to play for both these teams.

(Another edit: John Madden has the most frustrating lapses in his memory about the rules of the game. He thought the Gaffney touchdown should've been reviewed because his knee came down out of bounds when he obviously had both feet down first.)

Jedi Master Carr
Nov 25th, 2007, 08:46:19 PM
I think it will be a high scoring game might see both teams score in the 40's.

Kale
Nov 25th, 2007, 09:26:53 PM
The Patriots caught a raw break there - that was a bad offensive pass interference call that took away the Randy Moss touchdown. Amazingly, Gostkowski then missed the short field goal. Now to see if the Eagles can capitalize on the opportunity.

A.J. Feeley is having himself a game.

EDIT: How in the HECK did he get that pass off?!!?!

Eagles re-take the lead!

What's amazing me is that Feeley has missed several very open receivers and yet he's still found more chances. He's making some incredibly tight throws out there. Meanwhile, the defense has done a good job of containing Moss and pressuring Brady. A lot of teams are going to be studying the Eagles' defensive and offensive game plans regardless of whether Philly hangs on.

EDIT 2: Patriots getting very good yardage out of these screens, which might open something downfield.

Yog
Nov 25th, 2007, 10:20:12 PM
Interception. I hate the Patriots.

Kale
Nov 25th, 2007, 10:24:29 PM
He had an open man underneath, too. It was a terrible, terrible decision. A real shame, considering how well Feeley has played.

The Eagles still have a chance, but they need two more stops right here.

EDIT: Dang. Aside from those two picks, this was an excellent effort by the Eagles. It's a real shame it came down to mistake plays by Feeley; he carried the team through most of the game.

Yog
Nov 25th, 2007, 10:30:42 PM
I wonder what the Eagles are doing right that every other team is doing wrong. Or maybe it's just Patriots having a bad day. Eagles might get into FG range now.

Edit: Should not have said that. Picked off... again! :(

Jedi Master Carr
Nov 25th, 2007, 10:46:51 PM
I think it was a combination of things. The Pats offense though was fine. They got robbed a TD so they should have had 38 points. Moss got shut down but you almost have to pick your poison with this team. You can shut down Moss but Stalworth, Welker and Gaffney will beat you. The defense was the problem. I think they played weak after knowing Mcnabb wasn't going to play and didn't take Feeley very seriously.

jjwr
Nov 26th, 2007, 08:03:44 AM
Great game by the Eagles, theye kept constant pressure on Brady which forced him to make some bad throws.

As a whole it was a combination of a few things as there were a few key stretches where the Pats dropped some easy passes which would have been 1st downs. One came after the Moss PI call, Welker dropped the ball in stride at the 5yd line, had he caught that he may have scored or at least been a closer FG and who knows what would have happened from there on out.

Pats D didn't look good, way too many open receivers, they obviously felt they could go heavier on the line to shut down Westbrook but it hurt them in the secondary.

Pats players said after the game that people can't expect them to blowout every team they play, a lot of teams seem to give up but the Eagles kept fighting and made a great game of it.

I didn't know they had a water polo team in Pittsburgh.

EDIT: Ricky Williams' debut game may be over already. After 6 carries for 15 yards and a lost fumble, he's in the locker room to check on a shoulder injury.

Jedi Master Carr

So what is up with Pittsburgh? To be tied with the horrible Dolphins is just weird.

Nathanial K'cansce
Nov 26th, 2007, 09:21:11 PM
I guess you can blame the pool they are in? Dolphins do like to swim.

Kale
Nov 26th, 2007, 09:24:02 PM
They've been moving the ball, and most of the time they've been in the Dolphins' end. They just keep making mistakes to kill drives. A dumb INT to J. Peezy, getting blindsided on the corner blitz, and holding and offensive pass interference to kill 1st down plays. (Though I think the offensive pass interference call was really weak.)

Bad weather always has an equalizing effect; I'd really hoped it wouldn't make that much difference. Neither team has been able to do squat. But I have to think the Dolphins will wear out long before the Steelers do.

The Dolphins just went for it on 4th and 15 rather than try a 38-yard field goal in this mess. This is the worst I've ever seen a football field.

EDIT: WOAH - the Dolphins' punt just came point-down. It hit the mud and stuck there. THAT is a BAD FIELD.

Jedi Master Carr
Nov 26th, 2007, 09:31:49 PM
Yes the field is a mess. I don't see too many long FGs being made.

Edit
Well Miami is running out of RBs. And lol at that punt. I loved how the ball landed.

Edit
Geeze at this rate not sure when either team will score.

Edit
Oh the humanity, this game could go to OT at this rate.

Oh, if you were wondering why the field is so bad....

This turned out real, real well. (http://www.pittsburghpostgazette.com/pg/07326/836033-66.stm)

Jedi Master Carr

I know oh this is the second longest scoreless game ever. Also can the Steelers kick a FG in that slop?

Kale
Nov 26th, 2007, 10:29:27 PM
Jeff Reed for MVP!!!!

A bit of background: Heinz Field's surface is notoriously bad, and for good reason. In addition to the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pitt Panthers, the field plays host to several area high-school championships in the month of November - seven games in the last eleven days alone.

That's why they resurfaced the field with fresh sod at great expense, hoping its weight would hold it in place and make a more stable playing surface for the rest of the season. They didn't count on the downpour that soaked the new field all day. So not only is the surface covered in loose, soggy sod, there's even worse drainage than usual because the old sod is still down there absorbing water.

The Pittsburgh press has been talking about field turf for Heinz Field for the past several years, and Pitt has been heavily lobbying for it, but the Steelers front office has always said they were satisfied with the natural grass surface. A couple days ago, the Post-Gazette online posted a story that Steelers officials were looking into the sort of field turf that West Virginia just installed in their stadium. If this game doesn't convince the Steelers to make the switch to an artificial surface, I don't know what will.

I wonder what measures they'll take between now and when the Bengals come to Pittsburgh in six days.
