View Full Version : A-Rod to re-sign with Yankees?

Here in NY, the papers are all a-buzz at how A-Rod has come "crawling back" to the Yankees after testing the free agent market and realizing he isn't going to get the kind of money that money-grubbing agent Boras thought he was going to be able to command.

Now, is this genuine, or is A-Rod trying to once again get the Yankees involved in an attempt to drive up his price.

If I were the Yankees brass, I'd take him back, but on my terms, no higher. If he can get better money elsewhere, I wouldn't get into a bidding war...

I think you mean re-sign, not resign. :p

Saw the post title and thought WHAT?

But, honestly, I have difficulty caring too much about a player whose asking price is higher than my home team's entire payroll.

Thanks for catching the typo. I edited it so no one else can say "what?"

It looks like he is going to re-sign. I think they are crazy re-signing him. He is just a circus for any team.

They just can't afford to lose him. It's not suprising that he's gone crawling back. Who was going to give him 30+ million per season for 10 years? That's just ridiculous, and Boras is nothing but a greedy SOB. It's guys like him that are ruining baseball.

The best part of this whole soap opera is that Boras got a face full of humble pie. Across baseball, GM's, owners, and rival agents are laughing their butts off. A-Rod is going to get about $27M less than what he would have gotten from NY if he'd stayed at the negotiating table and NOT opted out. That's what the Yankees lost from Texas when A-Rod opted out. The Yankees got A-Rod a bit cheaper than if Boras hadn't misplayed his hand, that's the bottom line. A-Rod is going to carry this embarrassment for awhile, but if he has another 50HR+ season it'll be forgotten pretty quick. He's still signing the richest contract in the history of the MLB and Boras is still getting his 5% so neither one of these guys loses that much.

The Yankees are still paying A-Rod more than any other team is willing to. A-Rod tested the market and found that no one was willing to part with $300 - $350M to sign him. That's why he went crawling back to the Steinbrenner's and threw Boras under a PR bus. The signing makes sense for both sides. I still don't think A-Rod is going to be the difference in the Yankees finally getting #27. Chamberlin, Hughes, and Kennedy, they're the Yankees future. If these guys deliver NY will find itself back in the WS.
