Oh, and why is there a game in London?

They are going to play one game overseas every year during the regular season. They picked a good team to take a home game from this year. I doubt Miami fans will miss seeing them play. I am not sure how they are going to do this in the future though. There is talk they might add a 17th game, taking away a preseason game at the same time. They are thinking of having every team play one game overseas (Europe, Mexico and maybe Canada).

The Giants / Dolphins game in London has been pretty comical with the wet grass field. Neither team seem to handle the conditions well. Although Giants are just better and up 13-0 at half time.

One can only hope. Anyone outside of NE that roots for this team should have their head examined. Somewhere Steve Spurrier is actually blushing because even he's never seen someone run up the score like this. How I'd love to see Brady get pummeled and knocked out for the season while going for a TD on a 4th down, late in the 4th quarter while already up by 20+ points. You can't even make this stuff up, what they're doing late in games is just ridiculous. And I love how some of them are using the; "You bashed us at the beginning of the year, now we'll show you!" You got bashed because you were CAUGHT cheating, that's on you, not on the media and fans that roasted you when you got caught.

How I'd love to see Indy rip them a new one next week and then late in the game watch Dungy throtle back and simply run the ball late in the game. It's called class Bellichek, look into it.

I guess I should have my head examined :p Allthough I am from New England originally so I guess I don't count. Actually Tom Jackson on ESPN defended what they did and Joe Gibbs said he had no problems with it. I have seen teams do this before. The 49ers at their height did this. They kept Montana in there during some blowouts. Super Bowl 24 comes to mind. Montana played into the 4th and you could argue the Niners ran the score up on the Broncos. They added 14 points in the 4th when the game was well over.

Superbowls are different. Regular season games there should be sportsmanship. Superbowls, championship games, is a time to flex your dominance.

Is it considered unsportsmanlike to win with big numbers? I don't like the Pats for various reasons, but they are at least playing entertaining football, which is the main reason I watch them.

Packers / Broncos game looks close. I am not surprised.

The Niners did that with Montana in the regular season too. I remember them roughing up some teams in that 89 season. 52 points is nothing. If they had kept Brady out there throwing in the 4th quarter than yeah. Most of those yards that drove to get them those scores came on the ground. If the Redskins can't stop them what can the Pats do? Kneel Down?

There's a big difference between the Bills famous playoff comeback over Houston, which spanned the entire second half, and what New England was doing late in the 4th quarter to Washington.

I'm not going to get into the sportsmanship debate, but from a player personnel standpoint, there's no reason to risk your franchise players (Brady, Moss, etc.) at that point in a blowout. If Brady gets hurt at some point because of Belichik's desire to run up scores, the media in Boston will eat him alive.

Jedi Master Carr
Oct 29th, 2007, 09:50:41 PM
That last TD though was done by back up players. Brady was pulled early in the 4th. As I said most of those yards were on the ground in the 4th quarter. The Redskins just threw in the towel.

Figrin D'an
Oct 29th, 2007, 10:03:40 PM
Cassel was in the game at that point for Brady, but why risk other marquee players? Some of the starters were still in well into the 4th quarter. Why risk an injury? Get them out and lets your backups get some reps... who cares if they get shut down, the opposition has given up, like you pointed out.

I just think it was a pretty boneheaded coaching move, that's all. It's a long season, you need your starters to stay healthy to get to February. Don't put them in a position to get hurt just for an extra score in the 4th quarter of a blowout.

Yog

If Brady gets hurt at some point because of Belichik's desire to run up scores, the media in Boston will eat him alive.

Why should Belichik worry about the media though? If they as a team wants to play the best possible football, and that includes knocking opposing teams down with a sledgehammer, should they not be allowed to do that? I mean, is not the aim in sports to perform at the highest level and the score stats are the primary way of measuring that? Or is there some sort of honor code in how you defeat opposing teams?

(not getting into this debate either, just asking a retorical question)

Impressive winning streak for the Packers. Favre is amazing.

There is no honor code that I know of. Teams used to play more like that back in the older days. Of course a lot of teams had weaker benches then.

Back to Belichick for a second. I believe the "running up the score" thing is blown a little out of proportion. The scores are out of whack by half time. What is Belichick supposed to do? Ask his team to take a full 2 quarters off? I know that scoring a TD in the last minutes of the 4th is a little much when you are already up by 30+ points, but they just can't go to sleep, or put the B squad out for too long.
