Description:
Another Japanese attempt to knock out Henderson Field on Guadacanal by bombardement from Naval gunfire. This time, the force was intercepted by an American fleet led by Norman Scott. In battle lasting some hours, into October 12th, the Japanese fleet was routed, forced to go back up the way they came, without accomplishing their objectives. Thus, Henderson field would still be in operation the next day.

I was thinking of doing little history posts, now and again, when a date falls on a battle. I couldn't find anything for October 17th to post, so I posted something for Oct 11th instead. Just an informative sort of history lesson, for those who might be interested in such.
