Funny - I put up all my picks before reading anyone else's. I thought I was being kinda bold picking Green Bay over the Giants in the Meadowlands, but JMK and jjwr are the only ones who've picked New York.

Any final word yet on whether Eli Manning is going to be able to play?

Yog

Manning practiced Friday, taking about half of the snaps against the defense's first unit. He reportedly looked good. While the coach says he is a gametime decision, I think its obvious he will be playing.

Oof, I think Pete Morelli just ripped off the Browns. T.J. Houshmandzadeh's caught the ball on the side of the endzone, but I think he only got one foot down before going out of bounds. Romeo Crennell challenged it, but the play stood. It was close, but looked pretty clear to me - T.J.'s left foot comes up off the ground just as the ball hits him in the arms, and it's another moment before the ball is secure in his possession.

But, amazingly, the Browns bounce back with a huge Joshua Cribbs kickoff return and a TD pass to an unbelievably wide-open Jurevicius. Cleveland has the lead again, 20-14!

EDIT: Of course, the with the Browns defense, it doesn't take long for the Bengals to score again. Chad Johnson had said before the game he was going to jump into the Dawg Pound if he scored - unfortunately for him, they're behind the opposite end zone. He was about to jump into the stands anyway, but Tad Perry pulled him back. :lol

2nd EDIT: Woah! In other news, the Buccaneers are up on the Saints 21-0! What's happened to Sean Payton?

Yog
Sep 16th, 2007, 12:32:00 PM
Since when did the Browns learn to play offense?

Nathanial K'cansce
Sep 16th, 2007, 12:35:23 PM
When they got rid of Fyre. Or whatever his name is.

Kale
Sep 16th, 2007, 12:36:16 PM
They learned from the school of blind luck. Derek Anderson just threw the ball into triple coverage - it was batted up into the air and fell down into the hands of WR Braylon Edwards, who'd been knocked onto his back.

Two of the Browns' scoring drives were set up by turnovers, a third was set up by a KO return to the Bengals' 15. But the Browns have just now pulled off an 88-yard TD drive in just over a minute before the half.

Heh, anyone else remember that game between Cincy and Cleveland that ended at 58-48?

Yog
Sep 16th, 2007, 01:10:17 PM
It has been quite a shootout. Browns is a surprise to me. I'm also shocked how dominating the Bucs are.

Moreth
Sep 16th, 2007, 01:33:30 PM
Chad Johnson finally had the opportunity to jump into the Dawg Pound. They were surprisingly welcoming - pulled him up and patted his back... and then poured beer on him. :lol

If the 49ers can make one more defensive stop, you're going to have to eat that post, Yog.

EDIT: You're going to have to eat that post, Yog. :p

Course, that hurts me, too - if the Browns finish out this surprising shootout, I'm going to be 4-4.

On the subject of surprising performances, the heck did this Texans team come from? If it hadn't been for a cosmetic TD late in the fourth quarter on a 74-yard catch by Steve Smith, they'd have crushed the Panthers 34-14. Matt Schaub was 20/28 for 227 yards and a pair of TDs, and the Texans D held Carolina to 66 yards on the ground.

Oh, yeah, and the Texans O-Line gave up no sacks.

And, just for your enjoyment, a line from Bill Hilgrove during today's radio coverage of the Bills-Steelers game:

"Another blistering hit! Ike Taylor is adminstering publishment this afternoon!"

Rutabaga
Sep 16th, 2007, 02:36:11 PM
The Bengals-Browns game is an absolute shocker. It's almost unbelievable.

The other thing that's unbelievable for me is that the Niners have started the season 2-0. When is the last time that happened??? I know it won't last, but boy, does it ever feel good. :dance

Oh, and congratulations to Park for being the only one to pick Cleveland. The rest of us bit the big one on that one, that's for sure. :\

Yog

I'm not sure what the trainers put in the gatorade in Cleveland. 51 points? O_o

I have a feeling there are going to be lots of upsets this round.

Edit: I am watching Seahawks game right now. If they keep playing like this, it could be another upset.

Kale
Sep 16th, 2007, 03:11:21 PM
Cardinals are up 17-0. The NFC West is turning upside-down today.

EDIT: The game was tied at 20 and the Seahawks were driving for a go-ahead score in the final two minutes when Hasselbeck was sacked at midfield and stripped of the ball. The Cardinals take it into field goal range on three Edgerrin James plays and kick a game-winning field goal as time expires. Yet another big upset in the NFC West.

Meanwhile, the Jets are trying to score a tying touchdown against the Baltimore Birdies with under two minutes to go. A force-out gives the Jets a first and goal at the eight-yard-line.

The Lions and Vikings have gone to overtime, and the Vikings take the opening kickoff.

Wow, what a week two!

Game over in Baltimore. Justin McCareins misses two sure TD receptions, the second of which bounced into the hands of Ray Lewis for an interception. Great effort by the Jets, and especially by backup QB Kellen Clemens, who threw for 260 yards against a tough Ravens defense.

Feels like me with the Chiefs, though I won't completely give up till they go 0-3. Kc did look better this week, they only lost because of Hester. They had more yards than Chicago and the offense did move the ball. That stupid pentality and a TO in the End Zone killed them as well.

The Patriots are the best team right now.

Thats an understatement :)

Honestly all off-season I've been trying not to get too excited about this team...being a huge fan I obviously followed them very closely and knew with their pickups they could be scary good but until they played a game I didn't want to get too carried away.

Well....they freaking rule! And whats even worse is now they have a massive chip on their shoulders and are just going to destroy people to prove a point. You have some guys with a lot of pride on that team who are being questioned and they are going to make a point to prove that what they have done is legit.

The offense is scary, if you double Moss then Brady just dumps it to Welker underneath, if he's covered then he goes to the pro-bowl caliber Watson at TE...and lets not forget Donte Stallworth.

Barring any major injuries this team will roll through most teams it faces. Colts will still be very tough, as will the Steelers & Ravens. They won't beat these teams by just showing up but if they play like they can then they can beat any of them.

Nathanial K'cansce

Stalworthe best be getting some looks here soon... I pegged him as a down-field threat if Moss is covered. Ugh.

Both my fantasy teams need a change. Though I would have won this week had I put in Cadillac instead of Benson, and Watson instead of Gonzo. *shakes fist*

jjwr
Sep 17th, 2007, 12:27:42 PM
Stallworth will get some shots, Moss has torched 2 teams in a row and will be getting covered a bit more tightly which is going to open up single coverage for Stallworth down the field. Brady almost had him a few times last night and they'll keep going to him. Lets not forget Welker who is hearing up the middle of the field, combine that with Moss and Stallworth will get plenty of chances very soon.
