What would be the biggest bear you can find in the state of New York? Or close to NY at least for some to enter the state?

Black bear if anything. Unless you mean in a zoo.

There's a bear and woods joke in here somewhere.

haha, why?

If it's for camping reasons, feel safe. Bears aren't something to worry over (yes, they're curious; but, they're really big, frightened furballs).

Ticks. Ticks I fear.

I'm trying to come up with an evil bear worse than the maneater from The Edge, you know what happens once they taste man flesh.

I'm also making this mother huge, like a freak bear that has lived in the woods for decades and just kills everything he sees, bear in mind that this is pure artistic license, but I'm trying to come up with at least some degree of realism.

Anyway, this would be from the point of view of a young child in his preteens, so any bear would look huge.

Once I copyright my script, I'll give you guys full details, not sure if you guys read the thread in OOCM, but i'm going to New York Film Academy this January.

Black bears get to about 800 pounds at most, and that's rather rare.

If you take your cues from other animals that predate upon humans on occasion, you may want to look into the Maneaters of Tsavo. That's in regard to lions but I don't know why it wouldn't also fit here. They have theories on this sort of behavior, involving that deteriorating dental health leads them to turn to human quarry, which are much easier to kill in terms of thin skin, etc.

We had a grizzly bear escape from one of the zoos near here :uhoh They caught it like, less than a day later.

^that makes me think of the animal that was loose in the woods behind my mums' house...the KILLER COW! XD

Go with a pack of wolves.

Not like that's been done to death already

Once I copyright my script

As soon as you write said script, you have automatic copyright, no registration required. Registering only makes it easier to defend.

There have always been tales of animals growing much larger than usual, such as crocodiles, wolves, snakes and even humans, so I don't think a huge bear would be out of the question.

And yeah, the lions from Tsavo and the bear from The Edge are similar to what I have in mind.

Jaws with Bear instead of Great White, is that what you have in mind? Let me know when it shows up at box office ;)

Just go with bigfoot, in a non-Harry and the Henderson's sort of way.

No no the bear is the antagonist of the first act, not even the main baddie, for my hero's childhood traumas.

It's not even about a killer animal, well it is in a way but it's not even close, lol.

And it isn't horror, it's about a child with a great destiny . Sounds cliche, but this movie won't take itself too seriously anyway.
