View Full Version : 10 Year Board-a-versary Coming Soon!

Lilaena De'Ville
Aug 7th, 2007, 02:47:26 PM
:eee As some of you may be aware, in 2009 SW-Fans.Net will be having its ten year anniversary. :dance (In internet years I think that makes us like fifty years old. ;))

In 2009 the staff is planning a few board events and other surprises, but we'd also like to have a big board get-together in 2009. There were a few ideas thrown about, but generally we think that centering our SW-Fans Meet around a comic convention is a good idea. So!

Pick which ones you'd be most likely able to go to in 2009 - you may vote for more than one Con if you could theoretically go to either/or. :)
Choices:
Comic-Con International (http://www.comic-con.org/) (San Diego, CA) July
Dragon*Con (http://www.dragoncon.org/) (Atlanta, GA) End of August
Wizard World Chicago (http://www.wizarduniverse.com/conventions/chicago.cfm) (Chicago, IL) Mid August

Then all you need to do is start saving your money! More details will be hashed out and finalized as the time draws nearer!

San Diego or Chicago :)

Wee! We're all old and stuff! Who woulda thought!

Lilaena De'Ville
Aug 7th, 2007, 02:49:47 PM
There's an actual poll up, as well. :)

I picked San Diego or Atlanta :)

Miranda Tarkin

omg ... I am still messed up from my vacation and ... another thing that came up :(

Lilaena De'Ville

When you post a poll it posts up the thread content while you are writing in the poll options, so it probably wasn't up when you jumped into the thread. ;)

Whatever we end up doing, I'm still going to have to fly across an ocean to get there, so I just voted 'any' :)

I've been intrested in checking out Dragon*Con, and it's actually semi-close now. LET'S GO THERE!

Zeke
Aug 7th, 2007, 08:23:26 PM
Atlanta is the only realistic chance of me going anywhere. Besides which, I've been wanting to go to Dragon Con for a while.

Dasquian Belargic
Aug 7th, 2007, 08:38:54 PM
Hey, what do you know... I just discovered that Atlanta is a sister city to Newcastle, where I live. I feel like I should vote for Atlanta now :mneh

Zeke
Aug 7th, 2007, 08:41:06 PM
Yes. Vote for Atlanta. All manner of awesome is in Atlanta, because they both start with "A". Plus I live an hour away from it, and if I'm awesome, and Atlanta's awesome, then therefore experiencing us both at the same time will be enough awesome to explode lesser people's heads.

Miranda Tarkin
Aug 7th, 2007, 09:56:17 PM
Well, if it is Atlanta probably can't go :( but alas that is life :)

Zereth Lancer
Aug 8th, 2007, 12:47:23 AM
I'd have to go with San Diego, because it's the closest and I don't want to fork up half of my inheritance to fly over to the other side of the continent. Well, actually, I really don't care, because it'd be fun to go to any event as those listed above. The hard part would be swinging my boss to let me take the time off. I got monies now :)

Cat X

"Atlanta" is actually super secret code for "Australia"

Lilaena De'Ville

Zereth, its TWO YEARS AWAY.

You'll get the time off.

Dasquian Belargic

Zereth, its TWO YEARS AWAY.

You'll get the time off.

You don't know my bosses.... They're red vests of command are painted with the blood of infants and failed employees. Of course, in two years time, I could be the big shot calling the shots, and time off becomes ever harder when your in the middle of the top. Assassination might be in order to speed things up. Zeke was a contract killer once upon a time, right?

Lilaena De'Ville
Aug 8th, 2007, 03:48:25 PM
In two years time I hope you have more ambition than living at home and working part time at Fred Meyers. :rolleyes

Atlanta since driving is cheap :)

Besides I've never been to a con and I guess I'm due to be a huge freakin nerd or somethin.

Besides I've never been to a con and I guess I'm due to be a huge freakin nerd or somethin.

Same boat as Charlie. Never been to a real con (minus Otakon but well, that was once when I was young). I chose Atlanta and Chicago, but I'd fly so it doesn't really matter. Any major city is fairly cheap.

Ilias Nytrau
Aug 10th, 2007, 05:46:49 PM
I voted San Diego, because it's close..but granted, this is two years down the road. Clara will be three, I will be 25. And I can't even tell you what exactly I might be doing two days from now, outside of the obvious (work/school/chasing after previously mentioned toddler...). But COMIC-CON? :D

Ok, seriously now, I would go anywhere that would get me out of Canada for a few days, within reason. So, we'll see in two years if I do or not. This is exciting.

I just realized I've been here since '00 and I've never met ANY of you (Save Sam, and he doesn't count since it was about Transformers things, and not Star Wars).

I'm depressed now. I said Chicago, figuring that was about my only chance, but now that I've depressed myself, I'm going to have to make an attempt no matter where it is.

Park Kraken

I voted for Atlanta, of course. We'll need a distinguishing factor among ourselves so that we can recognize one another. Sw-Fans t-shirts, or perhaps bandanas?

Karl Valten
Aug 11th, 2007, 09:38:51 AM
Didn't LD have a bunch o' T-shirt designs?

Dasquian Belargic
Aug 11th, 2007, 09:46:16 AM
I'll make my own t-shirt, if there aren't any - but there should be one! With a big roster of everyone who was there... or maybe just space on the back for us all to sign each others shirts with doodles and such like :)

Lilaena De'Ville
Aug 11th, 2007, 01:04:59 PM
How about everyone who wants to submits a t-shirt design, and then we vote on it as a board. Winning design gets cafepressed and we all commit to buying one :p

I think making plans 2 years in advance is kind of silly, since they will inevitably change. People will live in different places, situations will change, etc, etc. Ask me when it gets a little closer.

As far as Atlanta is concerned...

I can put a small amount of people up, and for some people, cough cough (Grace) cough, I can even get discounted flights if they are really in a serious bind for it.

Atlanta is easier logistically for me and my base of friends who are spottily appearing on Fans since we live around it.

The 2009 bit however could be slightly painful. I might be in a real desert at that time, maybe, or if I'm lucky, the mountains. Or on my way... But, right, just a preliminary glance, eh?

I refuse to believe I've known some of you and have been posting (with some extended absences) for 8+ years now. Someone's been fooling with the calender

I'd definitely go, especially since at that time, my schooling would be over for the undergraduate bit! w00t! Depending on the timing, I could most likely go to either Chicago or Atlanta; but be warned!

I'll bring friends, especially since I don't drive. And Airplanes are really expensive.

My hair will be really long by then too. Wow.

I'm bumping this thread, just because I wanted to say how awesome it is that we started planning this in 2007 and now in 2009 it's actually happening in just over 6 months time!

And also as a reminder to Christin that we have.. unfinished business >D
