It's not a joke. Not some sick, horrible cruel joke. It's real, and it's coming this Christmas.

I know a guy who's working on it. Say's it's every bit as good as it looks. May mercy be given unto our souls.

More info can be found here, for those brave enough to seek it. http://imdb.com/title/tt0952640/

what's wrong with that? :\ Looks okay to me. Jason Lee only rarely does anything wrong.

Wonder Dog, on the other hand...

I saw this in the BBC Film Diary a week ago and I hoped and prayed that if I closed my eyes and try to forget it, that we'd never see this film actually surface. Sadly, I was wrong.

It's hard not to hate the way Hollywood takes every precious childhood memory and twists it beyond all recognition. Obviously there are no more original ideas left. Alvin and the Chipmunks is the LAST thing I thought they'd turn into a movie :|

Watch out cause here we come
It's been a while but we're back with style
So get set to have some fun
We'll bring you action and satisfaction

We're the chipmunks
C-H-I-P-M-U-N-K
We're the chipmunks
Guaranteed to brighten your day

When you feel like a laugh
Give us a call we'll give you a roll
And if you feel like a song
Tune in to us and sing right along

We're the chipmunks
Coming on stronger than ever before
We're the chipmunks
Alvin, Simon, Theodore

Now imagine that sung by a rapping chipmunk. We must stop this movie before it's too late.

Newsflash to all outraged, frothing-at-the-mouth members:

This is a film intended for very small C-H-I-L-D-R-E-N.
If you want to crap all over movies for toddlers and tykes, go ahead, but don't forget to take your valium and rolaids. Keep the defibrillator handy and have a syringe of adrenaline on standby, you know, just in case you drop dead in disbelief and disdain.

Good lord, ease up FFS. Hollywood remaking this kids cartoon is not surprising. What is surprising is that it took this long.

I'm fairly certain that if you reeeeally want to, you can avoid the trailers and all talk about this movie, and then your ulcers won't erupt, your heart won't stop, and your hair won't turn gray.

This type of crap movie should be labelled as child abuse. And no adult should allow children anywhere near - just like no responsible adult lets children near Michael Jackson.

Children dont need to have their mental facilities abused so badly.

I have no problem with Hollywood making a Chipmunks movie. It seems like a perfectly solid idea for a KIDS movie. But those don't look like the Chipmunks I grew up with. Those look like Gangsta Chipmunks. May the idiot who put Chipmunks and rap together burn in the lowest level of Hades for the rest of eternity. Really the only hope for this film is that Jason Lee is involved. He couldn't possibly be involved in something that seems so putrid, could he? Did he make a Faustian bargain years ago and now it's time to collect? WTF Jason?!

You guys should be ashamed of yourselves for bashing what is obviously targeted at children, ten years ago all of you would be sucking your thumbs in excitement.

But, the whole gangsta thing does bother me.

Is it sad to say that I adored the Chipmunks when I was a kid? I dont think I'd be interested in seeing the movie now. The TMNT movie turned out pretty good, so who's to say this one wont? I dont know about the rap though...it sort of scares me, everyone knows the chipmunks actually SANG!

I think it will be a neat reintroduction of the chipmunks to a new generation of kids. But I'll echo the 'wtf rap' sentiment going around.

We don't even know what the movie is about yet!!! I'm not saying it's going to be an epic, far from it, but how the hell are we so sure that this is guaranteed to be crap, on a kiddie-level movie?

And besides, my original point stands. If you don't like it, don't watch it, and don't let your kids see it. Simple. It can't be any easier than that.

I understand the disappointment that the Chipmunks seem more "cool" and "hip-hop" in that poster, but I can see why it had to be done. The movie is for the children, not the nostalgic adult fanboys that I think most of us associate ourselves with (all as Star Wars fans, that is - and I'm even a comic book fan so it's twice over for me) And generally, it seems like they made the right call. I'm just almost happy that maybe a few younglings will be able to connect with Alvin and the Chipmunks today. Different Chipmunks, sure, but it'll be nice nonethelss.

I don't plan on watching it though.

Me neither, I'm completely against the whole gangster culture and I'm not going to contribute. But, maybe this is just a funny teaser and they won't be slang whores throughout the film. At least I hope not, because that will sho away a lot of potential families and parents who don't want their children near that crap.

Hartus Kenobi
Jul 6th, 2007, 12:34:14 PM
I really doubt they'll go for the glorification of gangsta culture. It would cause an uproar if the Chipmunks played to those types of stereotypes... it'll be much worse than when people were accusing Lucas of being racist for the way Jar Jar Binks acted. Anyways, Alvin was always a rebel that got into trouble, so I have no problem with them looking like little troublemakers. I just hope they keep their characters. As long as Simon is still the nerdy bookworm, and Theodore the cute, chubby and innocent little brother, I think we'll be fine.

Did someone call for a WTF Rap? I'm on it!

*cue terrible mouth beat box*

I saw a guy get hit by a truck
All I can say is: WTF!
I saw a kid eat a hockey puck
Can I hear it from mah dogs: WTF!
I saw a Chinese Master swing a mean nunchuck
Lemme hear it from the ladies: WTF!
I saw a drunk trade a quarter for a buck
George W. take the mike for a WTF!

I have no idea what this is, but it just came to me . . .

A redo of a truly awful concept twenty years ago, but with rap? How the hell can this NOT suck even at an maturity level of just born???? It doesnt even have the possibility of big things exploding!

I am SO tattling on you :p

But anyway, I guess I don't really feel one way or the other about this movie. I'll more than likely just bypass it. I know I know, I'm kind of known for my taste in bad movies, but there's different kinds of 'bad'. I'm more of a Space Truckers and Mom and Dad Save the World kind of bad; not the other.

But it's like I said before. It may be a nice reintroduction of the chipmunks to today's kids. I mean, the world we grew up in as compared to the world kids are now growing up in is pretty dang different.

I don't even know how to interpret this, really.

As for the chipmunks, they were originally a bunch of musicians in their heyday so it makes sense to convey them in that sense in a reboot of the story. That said, I think the person who designed them may seriously be out of the loop in the hip hop world. I mean, Eazy E wore those shades and they were pretty cool about 18 years ago. And tracksuits + boonie caps? Hahahahaha.

I think I'll keep my childhood memories of the Chipmunks right the way they are without ruining them with a ganster image off them.

You people do realise that hip hop isn't really congruent with gangsterism, yes?
