So, I'm interning at this company called Mitre. It's a fortune 500 company that is one of the best places to work at actually. In the past week, Computer World ranked us 5th best place to work at.

We are a "not for profit" corporation, meaning that about 90-95% of our funds comes from the government. Your taxes. Part of my job is putting up the schedules on conference rooms for the day. Today, when I was putting up one sheet, for one of nicer rooms, I noticed a two and a half hour meeting entitled "Jedi SW."

Come to your own conclusions.

at first I was silently fuming, thinking that my taxes were being used to keep another superfluous organization solvent. But then I actually looked Mitre up, and I like what I see so far. Which is not to say I'm convinced its economical to keep is as a government-funded not-for-profit, but I'm see its merits.

And back on topic... with that many engineers, I'm not surprised at all when it comes to what they decide on naming things :). I can only imagine what awesome secrety project names they have over at NASA.

It's usually best to keep governments tied up with silliness than say spending on war and other stupidities. The day the Air Force has to hold a cake stall to buy a bomber will be a great one for Mankind.
