Dont ask me how, I dont quite believe it either. We have an actual cyclone developing off the coast and expected to hit tonight with SFS strength of Cat 1, or locally equivalent to tropical cyclone strength of Cat 2.

We've had in the last week 200mm plus of rain, some places up to 500mm - it's the depths of winter and we have a cyclone this far south....? It even looks like developing into a proper cyclone and that's just not heard of.

Well, thats the good thing about living in the mountains, it wont get us but I would hate to be on the coast.

What next, snow?

(And like any lunatic, I think this is exciting. Bring it on!)

IF you lose electricity, start digging up a moat or the big kitties will eat ya!

I think the latest I recall us getting a hurricane was early-mid november but that was a while back.

Mind you, I think we had a subtropical storm hit back in April, which was a bit odd.

We had a tropical storm spawn in the Atlantic over NEW YEARS, in 05-06. Yeah.

Speaking of hurricane season, hope you guys have your bug-out bags packed.

I just ordered a new Maxpedition Monsoon pack and a Camelbak reservoir and I'm working on stuffing it full of med supplies, rations, maps, emergency survival doo-dads, and spare ammunition.

Low off the coast is reaching 980mb ...! Thats unheard of. 130 kph winds apparently and the rain is really getting serious. Never thought I'd see an actual cyclone near Sydney, let alone in winter. Oh yeah, also about 6C outside. It's one foul, foul night.

And I am soaking wet because it's also fun to walk in :D

Be safe!

How are the cats liking it? Or do they even care about what's going on out there?

Storms are sweet dude, the green flashes of power grids blowing up are just intense.

On top of that, we've got Cat 3 rated impact glass windows and doors. We still have our old shutters and can put them up in less than 3 hours.

Anything 4ish or higher and we'll grab pets, clothes, hard drives and convoy out. I'm already dreading moving the Miata next to the house for protection :|

This year is turning out to be a typical season (if you can call it that), with one storm developing right at the start of the season, and then a lull. The next storm will probably come along in Mid-July, with activity picking up after that.

mmmm hurricanes... my first year going to school in Georgia we had 5 of those things hit my school within a day or less of each other.... my first tornado warning too... It was fun watching the dorm parking lot get flooded... XD That and the school didn't cancel... that was fun, we went from nice, warm rain outside into freezing ACed buildings... it still amazes me that half the campus didn't get sick.
