View Full Version : Quitting!

Right now I am smoking my very last Newport. Like, the real last one because I've already thrown out my last pack.
It is very very good and I'm going to miss that first smoke in the morning like a mofo, but I would probably miss being able to paddle out with the guys more and I got short of breath earlier today. Not a nice feeling. :(
If anyone else was considering quitting, do it with me! We can have a buddy system!

Oh I love Newports.
Good luck. I like smoking way too much to try to quit even though I know it's terrible for me. :(

You can do it! Just keep thinking no morning hacking cough and no voice box in your future, no stained yellow teeth, no stained yellow fingers, no sticky residue build up on your stuff and food will start tasting better.

And just think, if you go french kissing, you also wont make your partner think they ae giving tounge to an ashtray. So there you are, quitting smoking improves your sex life!

You cheated already M! I saw you with that boy outside the 7-11! You said we were going running to help get your mind off cigarettes, not your mouth on them! :mad

Busted!
There was this lady who we use to visit when I was a kid and she smoked. This yellowish black tar stuff coated her entire place. It was so gross cleaning that stuff off, I can't imagine having it coat the inside of her lungs.
I use to smoke, I quit. My mom use to smoke, she quit. My grandmother use to smoke she quit. My aunt use to smoke and she quit to. None of us are that special, if we all did it you can too.

Dude, we only ran for like thirty minutes before you had to stop for water. Thirty minutes isn't even enough time to get my mind off the packaging. Besides, it wasn't even a really enjoyable drag.*
Seriously though I don't think cold turkey is the way to go. Cutting back to two a day--first thing in the morning, and post-workout--would be easier and a nice stepping stone.
*this is a blatant lie.

I do admit that I've tried to cut back. I used to smoke Camel Turkish Golds, but now I'm smoking Turkish Silvers, and not with the frequency that I used to. It's a slow process, but I've tried cold turkey before as well and it just didn't work. Lately though I've been starting to draw everytime I get the urge to smoke; that whol hand-to-mouth oral fixation thing is my worst enemy :(
AND NOT A WORD FROM YOU, MARK :verymad

My grandmother and great-aunts all smoked except for one of my great-aunts. The smokers all got breast cancer, and all but my grandmother died of it.
So I don't smoke and never have.

I tried to teach myself to smoke. Years ago when I was just coming of age to buy such things for myself. The result was a great deal of puking. Never got the urge to do so again.
Now, on the other hand, I could lick a clove cigarette like a freakin lolly pop, provding it dosen't get lit. :lol

The only time I smoke is if I'm stupidly drunk and get handed a cigarette by a friend, so I suppose you could call me a social smoker. I never get cravings for a cigarette, though. A joint, on the other hand...

It helps to quit when you try and smoke explosive cigs too, trust me.

As long as you don't light them, you'll be fine :) They still smell fantastic, and you'll lick your lips for hours.

Yeah that's exactly what I do with 'em. Then I have to go buy a bag of clove candies because they are addicting little buggers..

I remember back when I used to smoke them; they were so sweet, and tasted like sugar berries. So yum. Course now they're entirely too sweet for me. The pack I have in the drawer was bought about 5 years ago in Houston. I made it through maybe half the pack before I had to stop. I can't even handle one drag from them anymore.
And yet I still have them. They make the drawer smell pretty :D

My fingers are all chewed to hell because I'm not used to not having something in my mouth. >.<

Quite, I have a pack in my book bag. ;) Still sick from the last time I lit one (New Years), so there is no way I am putting one in my mouth. :lol

Mneh I drink too much to quit smoking. And I was raised never to be a quitter, so I'll stick to my Marlboro Reds, thank you. Cowboy killers my butt.

I admit I have not been following my own rules and am actually smoking while I type this.
There is a little bit of guilt, which we will take to be a good sign.
These things are harder to give up than cocaine. :(

I know some people I work with have quit by taking off the filter, then trying to smoke. It made them so sick and ucky for the rest of the shift.

Wish I could help you, but I quit cold turkey.
Nothing like finding out you're pregnant to make you smoke one last cigarette and throw them away forever. Now I can't even take smelling cigarettes -- the scent turns my stomach (though I do get the random cravings every now and again).
It's just mind over matter -- who's in control... you? Or your cravings?

My dad was a drinker. He had a drinking problem and the Doctor said, "Quit or it'll kill you." He stopped cold turkey.

I moderate my drinking and never smoke. I blame my father :) (in a good way)
Besides, there's already enough cancer in my family. My grandfather had it, my grandmother had it three times until it killed her :(, my aunt had some, my cousin, others...
Yes, I'll climb 300+ ft cliffs. No, I will not take a drag from your cigarette. Go figure.
