Right, so I had my wireless PC card working just fine for a few months and now it feels like not working anymore. I analyze the situation and decide my card works just fine, it's just my NETGEAR G router that's being a royal pain.

The way I recovered my connection was to go into 192.168.0.1, automatically detect my dynamic IP, test it and voila, it worked again.

Now nothing, everytime I test I get the error page.

Sometimes it will work, but now it's been a few days, I need HELP, posting from a 7 year old computer STINKS.

Non serious reply - Burn your Wireless

Serious reply - HURL it into a bonfire or get a Ethernet cable and plug it into directly the Netgear. BTW, would also not hurt to now the exact Netgear model if you can then I can tell you some more steps as I am very familiar with most Netgear models.

In fact right now, you will almost certainly need to hard wire to fix. That is the first thing you need to do.

Wireless in general is flat out bloody awful. I'd rather trip over cables at home than turn the Linksys back on.

What Jaime said. Wireless is just so... I dunno. Every time I've used it it's been completely unreliable.

We have a lynksys wireless router at the house, but I still plug the computers to it simply because it's just less stressful for me to network things that way.

We have a Linksys router set up in our house and have never had any problems with it. It covers two floors and six people can use it at once without any trouble, often with a number of them playing online games. Having cables is simply out of the question for us.

That being said, I don't know anything about Netgear.

The model is VGR614 v3, and it usually works just fine, I like wireless, but lately it's been troublesome.

Perfect. We have one just like that in the office (with the wireless turned off of course - we practice what we preach) so that wont be an issue. Now, do you per chance have any of the following -

1) Metallic based window tint
2) Walls with wire in them
3) Cordless phones
4) Any new wireless devices
5) Live in an apartment complex

1) and 2) are known to cause issues with signal interference and 3) Is a real nasty problem as some cordless phones and mobiles use the same spectrum. 4) Also is potential interference and 5) - well I wouldnt be too surprised if a new wireless point has come active within range on the same channel as you are using.

As an aside, with all the interference issues that wireless has (and still will have with the new N spec about out), you really must use at the least WGA for security and also set the router to only accept known MAC addresses. And if possible, use VPN to shield data as wireless is just too susceptible to attack/snooping. Also as wireless is shared bandwidth, each machine active will slow the others down unless you use separate channels for each machine connecting.

Even after all that, I wouldnt touch WiFi with a barge pole.

I have wifi enabled but I am using the Netopia router Bellsouth sent me. I set up security on it, got the passkey, and called it a day. It works very well, but it's aimed for bussinesses and is a step above consumer grade equipment, yay bussiness plans.

We had problems with a wireless router, turned out they just needed to be plugged in and turned on in a certain order.

Sometimes that helps?
