I haven't followed the Star Wars comics that closely. I have usually liked the ones I've bought, and I am an Ostrander fan in general, but I just didn't have the money to collect everything I wanted. I had to be choosy.
So for those of you like me, who like the comics but haven't been collecting them... I'm posting to reccomend this new series Legacy.
I just finished the first TPB, "Broken" Park 1. It's set 125 years after the movies, and it reads like a story that could have been written here. The Empire dominates the galaxy and Force sensitive characters abound.
The background is that the Imperial Remnant overthrew the Galactic Republic 100 years after the defeat of the Yuzon Vong with the help of the Sith... after which the Sith immediately back stabbed the Imps and took the throne.
So we have a sort-of parallel story with an empire and a rebellion, except the "good guys" are really just the lesser of two evils. Now throw in this generation's Skywalker, only he's a hard core bounty hunter.
That kinda spoils the first chapter of the book, but that's just the set up. It's a great story. I'm going to be looking for the next TPB when it comes out.
So far I only have one complaint, but it may turn out to be innocent. At one point in the story, the dethroned Emporer's daughter (the princess) mentions that she has a twin brother, but the comment was just dropped and not mentioned again in this first book. I hope to God that Cade Skywalker is not her brother. That would be one too many parallels that the story doesn't need.
Beyond that one quibble, it's got cool characters, a solid story, and great Jan Duursema art.
