I want a new desktop computer, and I'd like to price out how much it would cost me to build one. But I know nothing about that sort of thing, and I'd love to get some opinions on what sort of machine I should build, stuff to get, and how much its going to cost me.

What I want to do on it:

Photoshop
Dreamweaver/Flash/etc
Play City of Heroes
Word Process
Internet surf
Listen to music and watch DVDs
Burn discsI already have a CD/DVD player/burner that I bought about a year ago for my old computer. I'd assume that it would still be good enough to use in a new machine, but if there's anything I've learned its that I shouldn't assume.

Oh, and operating systems? Is Vista worth it?

You need a PhysX card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121015) if you plan on doing any of those things in Vista. And maybe a Killer NIC for web browsing.

No Vista offers no real tangible benefits right now and a lot of software incompatability.

Would be fine, just wait until the new video cards come out summer to buy one if you want the system now. What are your current system specs? Maybe all it needs is more RAM and a video card.
