Anybody been keeping up with this? After the known events of the end of season one (Caesar's assassination) and the unkown ones to non-viewers (Vorenus's discovery of Niobe's secret and Niobe's suicide) it has gotten really interesting. Vorenus being on hard times is beyond an understatement, and of course, Rome isn't standing still while he suffers, either. The tension working between Mark Antony, Octavian, Atia, and Cleopatra is making for wonderful stuff. I think what I love so much about this show is that half the story, you already know. A quarter of the rest are smaller plotlines and the other quarter is just the devil in the details. This is one of the most "alive" shows I've seen.
Also, as much as a loathe Mark Antony, I am in love with his character. Any minute now, he should implode from the weight of his own ego.

Rome is the best thing on TV for years. I'm so glad we're getting a second season.
Every character is great, but yeah, I love Marc Antony's endless bravado. I can't wait to see Octavian chase him down like a dog. :D

This last season is all about Octavian and his rise to Augustus. I really liked how they potrayed him in the second episode.

Yep. He's already palling around with Agrippa, which is a recipe for awesome. Agrippa is a quintessential right-hand strongman.

I heard Rome is being canceled, is this true?

The rumor is heavy that this is the final season. HBO just can't afford to make it, with BBC only covering a limited amount of the bill. It's monstrously expensive to produce by themselves.

Yeah, it's pretty much been known that the show won't go past the second season. Heck, I'm honestly surprised we even got a second season. The first season had a budget of $100 million. BBC only put up 15 million, so HBO footed the other 85 million.

I assume this series will make some money on the DVDs though. I can't blame them for stopping a series when its so expensive to produce. Two seasons are still a nice treat. Its worse when they cancel series which were relative inexpensive to produce and very popular. Thats when I wonder what the TV studio executives are thinking.

I was really close to picking up the first season on DVD, but put them back when I saw the price tag of $99 and then realized I have no job at the moment.
Oh, if only I had HBO.

Yeah, having HBO On Demand is awesome for exactly this reason :)
