View Full Version : New Guy

I just joined up, and posted a profile/bio/thing here (http://www.sw-fans.net/forum/showthread.php?t=15864).

I was wondering if I could get involved with the Rebel Alliance. I don't see my self as an undercover agent type guy - I think Tristan is more the sort of person that'd be sat out in the van monitoring another agent via a wire, and then running in with a gun when things go wrong. Either that, or some sort of technical support guy. If you need someone to crawl through air ducts and bypass security systems, I'm probably your guy.

Is there a space for me, or is this not the sort of character you're looking for?

There's always space for new recruits :)

Have a look at those pages. They should give you a general idea of the types of niche you could fit into. The majority of our members at the minute are with Intelligence. We have a couple of Marines (I think), an Urban Guerilla and a handful of Pilots. :)

Blimey. You don't skimp on choices, do you?

Tristan used to be a mercenary, so it makes sense for him to be employed in a similar capacity - a Mercenary/Free Agent working for Alliance Intelligence. That leaves me with the most scope as a player: I can help out with SpecOps teams/operatives/missions, as well as being 'loaned' to SpecForce if they need a pilot to deploy one of their teams. I can even work with the Fleet and Starfighter Corps if necessary: kind of a 'catch-all' pilot character, who can show up when he's needed.

So yeah. I'd be employed by Alliance Intelligence, but I can basically help out in whatever threads might happen to need a pilot. As I roleplay, I might end up siding with one group more than another, but for now, I'd like to keep my options open.

That sound okay?

Kind of like that? Kyle Katarn, minus the lightsaber? :)

To be honest, the majority of the Rebel Operatives (i.e. the people working with Intel) are kind of similar. Since we don't have a huge memberbase, we all just work where we're needed... obviously realistically within our characters capabilities.

From the bio you posted, it sounds like your character would fit well into the SpecForce Pathfinders or Technicians.

Just suggestions, of course. :)

I think I'll go Pathfinders. That's probably the unit that'd be most suited to Tristan's skills, especially taking the secondary (Scouting) aspect into account. It makes sense for Pathfinders to have additional skills too, since they're left behind enemy likes without much support - Tristan's tech skills could come in handy there. And his ship could be useful for infiltrating stuff as well.

I think I'll go 2nd Regiment (Pathfinders), then. Thanks for the suggestions, Dasquian. :)

So, what do I do from here? How do I get started RPing?

I'm guessing you want to assume that Tristan is already a member of the Alliance, in which case we can skip the whole recruitment process and I could whip up a mission of some kind for you to get started on?

Can't we just whip him?

That is your solution to every problem now, isn't it? :grumble You aren't in the Empire anymore! No more whipping and jackboots and all that kinkyness!

... :spank

Oooh. Whipping sounds good! If it isn't compulsory, I volunteer. ;)

Since I've got Tristan as having already helped out the Rebellion in the past, it probably makes more sense to just jump straight into a mission, yeah. Am I gonna have a rank? Am I just gonna be a random lackey, or a Squad Leader, or...?

Corporal? Sergeant? Did you have something in mind?

I was wondering maybe Corporal to start with. That could make him Squad 2IC, and could have him paired up with a Squad Leader (Sergeant, NPC?) who isn't particularly fond of him, as an ex-Imperial. That gives me the opportunity to "prove myself" in the first mission, not only as a soldier, but as a loyal Rebel. Then, if I ended up with a Squad of my own, I could move up to Sergeant. I always like having a character called Sergeant-something. Dunno why. :)

That sound OK? Would I be controlling the Sergeant (to free up anyone else in the thread to control enemies, etc), or would it be normal for another player/poster to? What's the norm around these parts?

There isn't a 'norm' persay. It's up to you really. Whatever you'd enjoy the most.

Okay then. If I look after me and my Squad (playing Squad Leader A**hole is always fun), is someone else gonna be controlling my enemies?

Mission-wise, how about sending a Squad of Pathfinders in to a particular place on Recon, to see what Imperial Forces are there, and what-not? We could be the precursor to a later Rebel invasion, or maybe laying the groundwork for a covert mission by SpecOps...something like that. Sounds like the sort of thing I'm gonna be doing, really.

Maybe it'd open the way for a more complicated follow-up thread, or something, if anyone's game for it.

If you want to do something with the Imps, I'm sure one of their members would be interested in RPing with you.

As far as the exact details of the mission goes, if someone from the Empire is interested in being part of the thread, you can probably hash that out with them.

Imps! Someone say, Imps?

Heehee...Imps. :lol Always makes me think of little, six-inch-high fat Stormtroopers, running around anywhere. Maybe they should make an alliance with the Fairies, or the Gremlins or something.
