Well it's that time of year. I'm starting to complie my year end list. This is by no means final, as I have several films I still need to see(not to mention, I occassionally go back and redo old lists years later).

But it's something I've done religiously since 1997. So here we go.

1. United 93
2. Children of Men
3. The Departed
4. Letters from Iwo Jima
5. Little Children
6. Notes on a Scandal
7. The Queen
8. Little Miss Sunshine
9. The Last King of Scotland
10. Thank You For Smoking

HONORABLE MENTIONS(limited to the the next five in alphabetical order)

Apocolypto
Babel
Blood Diamond
Dreamgirls
Superman Returns

1. Superman Returns
2. Pan's Labyrinth
3. Casino Royale
4. V for Vendetta
5. The Departed

The Departed will appear in this list once it is complete but I need to remember what I saw in the first six months of this year. Anyone know where I can find some sort of online film release diary for 2006?

By the way, in my review of Pan's Labyrinth, I said it is a superior film to Superman Returns; this still stands, as a film it is the best thing of 2006, but Superman Returns was more than a film to me, it was my 15 year old dream coming to life. That said, this is to all you Yanks out there, tomorrow Pan's Labyrinth is released and you'd all better be ordering your bloody tickets!

Updated my list a little. It's only just dawned on me how bad a year this has been for movies in general. There's so much rubbish out there, it's appaling film studios allow it to ever get past the script stage. Looking at your list, I have to admit I'm eager to see Children of Men but I will never watch United 93.

Letters is out, just not many theatres. Seriously, these are the only ones in the USA playing it.

Embarcadero Center Cinemas (San Francisco,CA)
Laemmle Monica 4 (Santa Monica,CA)
ArcLight Hollywood (Hollywood,CA)
Landmark Sunshine Cinema (New York,NY)
AMC Loews Lincoln Square 13 with IMAX (New York,NY)

Children of Men is only playing in 16 right now.

I really, really want to see Letters, but given how few theatres are showing it, I may not have a chance until it hits DVD. :(

Thank You For Smoking was pretty funny stuff.

Still haven't seen The Departed.

I haven't really seen enough 2006 films to try and compile a list, but I'll go ahead and say that I loved both Casino Royale and Rocky Balboa. I'm hoping to see Children of Men and Blood Diamond before the new year :)

I think it'll go much wider once noms come out. I expect it'll be up for Best Picture.

Several movies have not had a wide release in theaters yet, especially not in Norway. I also have some catching up to do. Ask me in a month or two :)

I have now seen every oscar nominee except a couple documentaries and some shorts. I updated my list. There are still some movies I want to see, but its getting close to a complete list.
