Yeah, I too saw this right before hitting the sack - a shame...

He lived a very full life, and hopefully will be remembered more for helping to heal the nation after Watergate than for his pardon granted to Richard Nixon. He was one of very few people in politics, present or recent past, whose words I felt I could trust.

Obviously he'd left office before I was born, but I always respected him. My parents were big time Ford republicans, so obviously tha influenced my opinion. But you have to respect someoone who throws their own political career away by pardoning Nixon and all the Vietnam war draft dodgers to try and heal the country, and STILL almost wins election despite being attacked on both the right and left.

I'm old enough to remember Gerald Ford as president, and I've always liked him. He seemed like a regular guy, y'know?

RIP indeed, he's earned it.

I vehemently disagreed with his decision to pardon Nixon, but I still have a bit of respect for Ford.

He almost played in the NFL before going into politics. :) He was our longest lived President.

Even though I don't agree with the pardoning of Nixon or the invasion of East Timor, he seemed a decent man, ruling with integrity and dignity. For a republican, he seems quite likable. He should be well remembered for being so unifying and healing the wounds after some of the worst chapters in american history; The Vietnam War and Watergate. RIP Ford. :(

(I assume there will be a state funeral?)
