Hopefully I'll do better this week than last week :lol.

Again, I might change the weekend picks by the time the games start...I especially have to think about the Dallas/NO game. Right now, it's an emotional pick I've made, just because I hate Dallas so much. I'd really like to see NO beat them. But they're playing in Dallas, so home field advantage might trump things. We'll see.... ;)

The Dallas D has been giving up some yards and the Saints have the best offense in the NFC so they could wrack up some serious yards and points.

I don't understand why some of you folks who have the NFL Network aren't seeing the games...that doesn't make sense. Does it have something to do with your cable company or something?

Anywho, I'm going to be a complete rebel and be the only person here picking NO over Dallas. I'm probably going to regret it, but what's life without a little risk, eh? :lol

I'm also going to leave my pick of the Giants over the Panthers...both teams are sucking right now, but I want to believe that the Giants are going to win another game sometime before the end of the season :\. It's not that I'm a Giants fan--I've had a difficult time with Eli Manning ever since he dissed San Diego when they drafted him--but still, the implosion of this team has been downright creepy to watch.

All these Rough the passer penalties are getting a bit silly.

In the Pats game their DT Vince Wilfork just got called for it. He fell on the ground after Harrington had thrown the ball and as he was rolling during the fall his back hit Harrington's ankle and harrington goes down and they call Wilfork for roughing the passer? WTF? As a result it puts the Phins into FG range.

JMK
Dec 10th, 2006, 04:31:56 PM
Looks like another wacky day in the NFL shaping up.

Yeah, the Pats got a little hosed on that call, but they paid them back with that horse crap roughing penalty on Yeremiah Bell. He hit Brady a tiny fraction of a second after Brady released the ball, there's no way he could have stopped himself at that point.

Also, how the refs blew the call on that trick play is beyond me. It was CLEARLY a forward pass and it seemed like the refs really didn't want to have to make that call until the big screen pointed it out to them.

Either way, the Phins punched the Pats right in the mouth today. Taylor was incredible and Thomas is the energizer bunny.

Speaking of getting punched in the mouth, how about the Colts? Losing 3 of their last 4, and today they looked pathetic. Their run defense put on the single worst performance I've ever seen.

Tomlinson makes history running up the score late in the fourth quarter. Very sportsmanlike.

You've got the ball on their 5 with three minutes left in the game (following a Cutler fumble). What are you going to do, take a knee three times? No one said the Broncos HAD to let him into the endzone on the first play from scrimmage.

jjwr
Dec 10th, 2006, 08:55:55 PM
That trick play was a blast to watch but it was pretty obvious there were two forward passes, unless the refs got a bit caught off guard and didn't quite see it.

Great one handed catch by Brady though! I'm wondering why he didn't just run with it, he should have known the first pass would have nullified it.

As for the game, the Pats always play bad in Miami so I wasn't really expecting a huge win by the Pats but I was hoping for more than that. Pretty obvious that the injuries are catching up to them and all these fumbles are getting silly. They'll still make the playoffs but if they don't wise up they won't make it far.

With the Colts loss the Pats had a great chance for the Bye but blew it. At this point I'm putting my money on the Chargers, they are playing unbelievable and unless something ugly bad happens I don't see them losing in the playoffs.

Cowboys down by 14, if they go on and lose this game maybe that will stop all the constant Romo talk. Yeah the guy has played well so far but he's only played a handfull of games, can't they let him play a full season before annointing him?

Maybe it's just me, but if you are up 21 points with 3 minutes to go, why are the starters still in?

jjwr
Dec 10th, 2006, 09:12:26 PM
Agreed, Tomlinson shouldn't even be in the ball game at that point, what if he got hurt? Up 21 points and risking a player of his caliber? If they lose him then their SB chances are gone.

The Pats were down 21-0 in the 4th and they pulled Brady. Sometimes you just gotta do it.

In my other Fantasy league I sat Bree's in favor of Peyton manning this week, figured the Dallas D would keep the game close. Almost 400yds and 5 TD's in the 3rd quarter? Ouch!

Dec 10th, 2006, 10:02:25 PM
Wow, I'm glad I'm not a Cowboys fan. These refs are making some oddball calls. First it was unsportsmanlike on Bill Parcells for throwing the challenge flag inside two minutes (on a play they ended up overturning on booth review anyway). Now the Saints went offsides on the Cowboys' 4th and 5 attempt from the Saints' 12, and, without a measurement, the ref said, "The result of the play will be fourth down and about three inches." Almost expected him to tack on, "Just to make it more interesting." Of course, then the Cowboys committed a false start and threw an INT on the ensuing play.

They've missed some calls in the Cowboys' favor, too, including when Reggie Bush was dragged down by his facemask at his own five, and a phantom offensive pass interference call against Colston. Other than that, it seems they've been issuing a number of make-up calls.

Nonetheless, the Saints are genuinely delivering a severe beat-down on the "hottest team in the NFC." I'm really impressed!

Edit: Oh, apparently the refs did know what they were doing with the "fourth and about three inches" call, because the down marker is always placed five yards short of the first down. So all he had to do was compare the Cowboy's current position with the marker to get an accurate spot.

I know there's still one whole quarter to go, but my oh my, am I ever glad I stuck with the emotional choice and took NO over Dallas. Things could change in the 4th, but it would have to be a comeback of monumental proportions for Dallas to win this thing now.

If it weren't for Indy, the Patriots, and the Seahawks, geez, I would have had a darn good week. And the Niners are starting to suck again, dagnabit.

At least the Chargers did great today, and Tomlinson broke the record...that was great to see :).

191 points in fantasy football this week:

QB Drew Brees 45
WR Marvin Harrison 10
WR Roy Williams 5
WR Lee Evans 15
RB Rudi Johnson 21
RB Maurice Jones-Drew 35
TE Antonio Gates 22
W/R Ladell Betts 18
K Shayne Graham 3
DEF Baltimore 17

That's with a subpar week from Williams and Graham too. And it's the highest single week total I can recall since my 196 last year.

At the end of October you could argue the 3 best teams in the NFL were the Colts, Broncos, and Pats. All 3 got slapped silly last week. The Pats got dominated by the Phins and they keep turning the ball over. The Broncos look like they plan for the rest of the season to be practice games for Cutler. The Colts looked like they thought they were playing a game of touch football yesterday. I love Tony Dungy, but he has to step up and take some responsibility for this pathetic defense. I don't care how undersized they are, I saw poor tackling and one blown assignment after another yesterday. They weren't much better on offense either. The Colts dropped 6 passes yesterday, including that TD pass to Stockley. All 3 of these teams look like they'd be lucky to win 1 playoff game.

LT is as classy as they come. It was up to Marty to pull him in yesterday's game. Did anybody hear his press conference after the game? It was the anti-T.O. show. He used the term "we" over and over again when he talked about what he's done this season. He might end up getting close to 35 TD's, especially if SD finds itself battling for HF.

Man, Belushi ruined that MNF intro. Will Obama hurry up and officially announce his candidacy!!!!!!

I wish MNF would just cut it out with the special guests altogether. They tend to forget there's a game going on any time they've got someone in the booth with them, and Tony Kornheiser's pseudo-wit is only tolerable when he's at least paying attention to what's going on down on the field.

I have no idea who could be picked besides Jason Taylor for Defensive Player of the Year. The guy has been borderline inhuman.

Also taking the knee when you're up like the Phins were was a classy thing to do, and smart.

JMK
Dec 12th, 2006, 08:30:28 AM
I agree with you, but I really don't think he'll win defensive player of the year. If anything, his performance on sunday should have cemented the award, but it's probably going to go to Urlacher.

It was also nice to see them take a knee. Winning 28-0 is just as good and meaningful as winning 21-0. I'm glad they didn't take the opportunity to rub salt in the wound, pad someone's stats with meaningless yards & TDs and open themselves up for a cheap shot.

Lewis isn't close to the Defensive MVP this year. As a team Baltimore can make a case for the best overall D but it will be tough for any one individual from that unit to provide the flashy stats necessary.

Shawn Merrian may be your man, missing 4 games and he's still on a tear and near the league leaders in defensive categories.

Dude, he's not winning defensive player of the year this time around. He may be in the conversation but it's pretty much a 2-man race at this point, maybe a 3-man race if you want to throw Merriman in there, but he will be a distant 3rd because of the roids.

I have been so busy the last two days haven't been able to post in this thread. I am not sold on the Chargers for one reason Marty Schottenheimer. He has had 5 teams win 12-14 games and everyone lost in the playoffs. I lived threw three of those games so I know. He will make some bonehead call in the playoffs I can just see it. With the Saints killing the Cowboys have a feeling they might have some destiny on their side. Maybe its destiny or something trying to make up for the mess N.O had last year. It would be very fitting if the Saints won the SB it would be great for that city and would probably keep them from moving for a long time. I am not sold on anybody in the AFC really right now. Maybe somebody will get hot and do what Pittsburgh did, but who knows at this point. Oh I am giving up on the Chiefs this year. They blew it with the Browns game really. They have no excuse there. They might as well lose the last three games and get a better draft pick. They need to do something about those defensive tackles and get a a young WR, IMO.
